Professorship in Intercultural Communication with a Focus on Migration Studies, Friedrich Schiller University, Jena, Germany. Deadline: 9 June 2024.

The applicant (m/f/d) should have an excellent, relevant doctorate in the field of intercultural communication, in particular from a social or cultural science perspective or in related disciplines (e.g. sociology, political science, social or cultural geography). He/she should be able to represent the field of migration research/migration studies with a focus on intercultural communication in an outstanding manner, both in terms of expertise and methodology. The fundamental willingness to develop a second focus in the area of diversity and social diversification processes in research and teaching compatible with intercultural research is expected and is a prerequisite for the tenure track procedure. He/she/they should show potential for successful international publication activities as well as for highquality teaching in our Bachelor’s degree programmes “Intercultural Business Communication” and “Intercultural Music and Event Management” as well as in the Master’s degree programme “Intercultural Human Resources Development and Communication Management”, including its international doubledegree variants. King’s College London: Social Justice (UK)

The Department of Education, Communication & Society is seeking to recruit a social science scholar with teaching and research interests in anthropology, sociology, social policy or a closely allied field to teach on our BA Social Sciences and other programmes as appropriate and to conduct high quality research. They will have interests and a track record that enable them to convene Political Activism and Social Change and Rethinking Work, which are optional modules on the BA Social Sciences. They will be a member of the friendly and vibrant Centre for Public Policy Research (CPPR) within the School of Education, Communication and Society, which is a School in the Faculty of Social Science and Public Policy. Ideally, they will have interests that strengthen the existing programmes of work in CPPR. For example, candidates may have particular expertise in race and racism, decoloniality, or inequalities of gender, class, sexuality or disability.

IIE: Project Manager, Fulbright Events (USA/Hybrid)

The Institute of International Education (IIE) is hiring a Project Manager for our Fulbright Events Programs. This position will work with the Fulbright Events Team. The Fulbright Events team advances the mission of the Fulbright program by creating engagement and connections among Fulbright students, scholars, and professionals. Through our events, Fulbrighters from around the world connect with each other, engage with concepts and ideas, and further their professional development, academic success, and understanding of the United States and other countries.

The Project Manager implements seminars, conferences, orientations, and other events for the Fulbright Program. This position requires collaboration with other internal and external stakeholders. The Project Manager will oversee the work of coordinators, temporary employees, and volunteers on a project-by-project basis. This role will support the financial and operational health of the Fulbright Events, Outreach, Recruitment, and Communications teams.

Xi’an Jiaotong-Liverpool U: Linguistics (China)

The Department of Applied Linguistics is a research-intensive environment with two MA programmes: the MA in TESOL and MA in Applied Linguistics (with a Specialisation in Multilingualism), which also contributes a Linguistics pathway on four UG programmes. The appointee will be expected to contribute to the department’s research profile and should have an excellent track record of publication in their research area, appropriate to their stage of career. An ability and willingness to contribute to or lead collaborative and interdisciplinary research projects would be a strong advantage.

In terms of teaching, the successful candidate must be able to contribute widely to the Undergraduate or Postgraduate curricula, including at least three from the following (either PG or UG):

  • UG: Introduction to Linguistics: Grammar, Introduction to Linguistics: Discourse, English as a Global Language, History of English, Sounds of English, Language and Society, Semantics and Pragmatics, Syntax, Psycholinguistics, and Language and Gender.
  • PG: Introduction to Multilingualism, Multilingualism in Society, Linguistics for Language Teachers, Methods in English Language Teaching, Principles of Course and Materials Design, Second Language Acquisition, Language Testing and Assessment, Speaking and Listening, and Research Methods. MA Dissertation (TESOL or MA Applied Linguistics).

In addition, the ability to contribute a new module in either Forensic Linguistics or Computational Linguistics would be an advantage. Staff typically teach 1-1.5module(s) per semester, depending on student numbers. The typical contact hours are around 6 hours per week. A contribution to academic administration will also be expected.

The Department of Communication of the Faculty of Social Sciences invites applications for the position of Associate/Assistant Professor in cultural studies. They are looking for applicants qualified to teach in some of the following areas: popular culture, Macau and Hong Kong cultures, cultural and creative industries, cinema studies, qualitative research methods, discourse analysis, gender studies, and platform studies. A track record of high-quality research and publications is a must. Ability to develop new courses in new media will be highly desirable. U Nebraska: Director, Global Experiences Office (USA)

The Director, Global Experiences Office (GEO) reports directly to the Assistant Vice Chancellor for Global Affairs and is responsible for the administrative and programmatic oversight of all global experiential learning opportunities sponsored by the University, including study abroad opportunities. In line with the University’s ‘Forward Together’ campus global strategy, and as a member of the Global Affairs leadership team, the Director will lead institutional efforts to expand global experiences for UNL students and will oversee a team of 7-8 education abroad professionals.

The Director will be required to build strategic relationships with faculty and staff within UNL units for collaboration on global experiential learning programming (including study abroad), to align goals, create efficiencies, and build strong programs. The Director will be required to establish and maintain positive relationships, fostering trust, respect, and confidence between education abroad and internal and external constituents. The Director will be expected to cultivate and expand faculty engagement in global experiential learning by providing a supportive academic and administrative environment.

This is an exciting opportunity to work in a highly motivated, strategically focused International Recruitment team. As a key member of the international team, you will develop and implement strategies for international student recruitment from selected countries within a designated geographical region, with responsibility for achievement of shared recruitment targets in these countries. You will formulate, co-ordinate and undertake student recruitment activities in your markets through effective country management. Activities will include a range of business development initiatives within the countries of responsibility, including market campaigns, commercial relationship management and profile-raising activities; and contributing to the maintenance of strategic partnerships.

You will play a lead role in advising colleagues in academic schools and colleges on the development of recruitment activities both within the countries that you manage and more broadly across our international activity. The role holder will initially manage international recruitment from UK and Europe. This post will involve regular travel overseas and within the UK (approximately 12 weeks per year). The International Office has a blended approach to working, currently working on campus on Wednesdays and Thursdays and remotely (from home) for the rest of the week. The option to work on campus full time is available if staff members choose to do this.
