CID Video Competitions

About CIDIn 2018, CID organized its first ever video competition, open to students enrolled in any college or university. The goal was to answer the question What does intercultural dialogue look like? After evaluations by a wonderful set of judges, the top entries in 2018 were posted to the CID YouTube channel, and shared across all the social media on which CID has a presence. The winners were:

  • 1st prize: Jinsuk Kim, MA student, Temple University, USA
  • 2nd prize: Class 5B,  School of Arts “Aldo Passoni,” Turin, Italy
  • 3rd prize: Sahiti Bonam, BA student, Temple University, USA

In addition, there were three Awards of Excellence:

In 2019, the second iteration of the competition asked students to answer a different question: How do social media influence intercultural dialogue? Again videos were evaluated by an international set of judges, and the top entries in 2019 were posted to the CID YouTube channel, and shared across all the social media on which CID has a presence. The winners were:

In 2020, the competition asks students to focus on listening, as listening is how intercultural dialogue starts. As before, we owe a debt of thanks to the international pane of judges, and again top entries were posted to the CID YouTube channel. The winners were:

  • 1st prize: Israel Arcos, from Ecuador, who was studying Mathematics at Hostos Community College at the time he submitted the video, now enrolled in Computer Science at Hunter College for his Bachelor’s degree.
  • 2nd prize: Shanoy Coombs, from Jamaica, who is studying Intercultural Communication and International Development at the University of Sheffield in the UK for her Master’s degree.
  • 3rd prize: Veronica Gutierrez, who grew up in Mexico and is now in the US, is studying Global Public Health at Concordia University, Texas, for her Bachelor’s degree.
  • Award of excellence: Vanessa Milqueya Ventura Alvarez, from the Dominican Republic, who is studying Business Management at Hostos Community College in New York, pursuing her Associate’s degree.
