AIAS has up to 15 AIAS-COFUND fellowships available for the most talented researchers from around the world and within all research disciplines and topics. The scheme is funded by the European Union’s Horizon 2020 Research and Innovation Programme under the Marie Skłodowska-Curie actions (grant agreement no 754513) and Aarhus University Research Foundation.

Two types of AIAS-COFUND II Fellowships  

AIAS-COFUND Junior Fellowships for postdoctoral researchers with a career experience of 2-10 years. Duration from 12-36 months.

AIAS-COFUND Senior Fellowships for researchers with a career experience of 10+ years. Duration from 6-18 months.

 

CFP IADA 2019: Dialogic Matters (USA)

ConferencesInternational Association for Dialogue Analysis: Dialogic Matters: Social and Material Challenges for Dialogue in 21st Century, July 24-27, 2019, Milwaukee, WI, USA. Deadline: March 15, 2019.

IADA 2019 invites papers that explore the various interconnections of dialogue, matter, matters of concern, and materiality. Proposals from any academic discipline addressing questions related to dialogue and dialogue studies are welcome. Proposals may also address (but are not limited to) any of the following sub-themes:

  • Discussing and/or applying descriptive methods to dialogue, e.g. conversation analysis, linguistic analysis, critical theory, ethnography, etc, in different contexts: pedagogical, mediation purposes, etc.

  • Relational ontology: interactions, relationality and materiality; human, machine, and technology interactions; technologies of dialogue

  • Dialogue and ‘othering’: the role of dialogue in constituting self, other, and group identity/ies.

  • Dialogue and power in constituting marginalized groups, or as a mechanism to hinder social transformation

  • Case studies permitting the discussion of material and social conditions enabling or preventing dialogue

  • Materiality, space and place: nature and posthuman dialogue; the communicative constitution of geographies; interaction and environmental matters; exploring the terrain and potentials of ‘smart cities’

  • Dialogue in and about crisis: challenges in dialogue; dialogue and (un)natural disasters; dialogue in mediating crises and conflicts

  • Dialogue, learning, and transformation: dialogue and its role in transformations of identity and relationship; dialogue and learning in and out of educational institutions; transformative approaches in education

As always, if there is a concept you think should be written up as one of the Key Concepts, whether in English or any other language, propose it. If you are new to CID, please provide a brief resume. This opportunity is open to masters students and above, on the assumption that some familiarity with academic conventions generally, and discussion of intercultural dialogue specifically, are useful.

The Center for Advanced Research in Global Communication at the Annenberg School for Communication at the University of Pennsylvania invites applications for a “CARGC Postdoctoral Fellowship.” This is a one-year position renewable for a second year based on successful performance. The Center for Advanced Research in Global Communication (CARGC) produces and promotes scholarly research on global communication and public life. As an institute for advanced study dedicated to global media studies, we revisit enduring questions and engage pressing matters in geopolitics and communication. Our vision of “inclusive globalization” recognizes plurality and inequality in global media, politics, and culture. Our translocal approach fuses multidisciplinary “area studies” knowledge with theory and methodology in the humanities and social sciences. This synthesis of deep expertise and interdisciplinary inquiry stimulates critical conversations about entrenched and emerging communicative structures, practices, flows, and struggles. We explore new ways of understanding and explaining the world, including public scholarship, algorithmic culture, the arts, multi-modal scholarship, and digital archives. With a core commitment to the development of early career scholars worldwide, CARGC hosts postdoctoral, doctoral, undergraduate, and faculty fellows who collaborate in research groups, author CARGC Press publications, and organize talks, lectures, symposia, conferences, and summer institutes.

CARGC postdoctoral fellows work on their own research, typically a book manuscript, and collaborate with staff and postdoctoral, doctoral and undergraduate fellows. They may design and teach one undergraduate course during their second year. They present a CARGC Colloquium and publish one CARGC Paper with CARGC Press. Fellows are provided a stipend of $50,000, a research fund of $3000, health insurance, a work space, computer and library access.

CFP WCA/ABC: Global South and North (New Zealand)

ConferencesCall for Papers: World Communication Association (WCA) and Association for Business Communication (ABC) Conference: The Global South and North: Communication and Cultural Perspectives, July 8-12, 2019, Massey University, Wellington, New Zealand. Deadline: January 15, 2019.

The global South-North divide has been conceptualized in political, cultural, economic, and developmental terms. The North has traditionally been seen as more economically, technologically, politically, and socially developed as well as more industrialized. But the South has been linked with poverty, disease, political tyranny, and overall lack of development. Meanwhile, thanks to the internet and development of smart phones, the gap between the South and the North seems to have narrowed. Limits of time and space seem to no longer exist. People can now share similar experiences and communicate, no matter where they are. Global citizens believe the global community is where they would like to live, despite the many issues we have to solve. To explore the global issues of today, the WCA opens the 2019 conference to you. The WCA is proudly co-hosting this conference with the Association for Business Communication (ABC), which will be hosting the 16th Asian Pacific regional conference along with the biennial WCA conference.

CFP Madrid Institute for Advanced Study Fellowships (Spain)

“Fellowships“Call for Applications, Fellowships, Madrid Institute for Advanced Study (MIAS), Spain. Deadline: 11 December 2018.

The MIAS invites researchers of all nationalities. The MIAS regulations therefore require an open invitation for applications. Following acceptance through a strict selection process, residents are allowed full autonomy to pursue their research projects; albeit they are encouraged to interact with one another and with the scientific community locally, regionally and nationally.

The MIAS’s scientific community as such consists of 20 researchers in Human and Social Sciences, whose stay in Madrid varies from 3 to 10 months, as well as longer-term resident researchers. There is a monitoring committee to provide scientific follow-up for all MIAS residents and facilitate cross-disciplinary exchanges among all the residents by means of periodic meetings, in direct contact with the scientific communities at the Universidad Autónoma de Madrid and at Casa de Velázquez.

The annual call for applications will value the presentation of proposals that enhance the international dynamism of the UAM-CEI International Campus of Excellence, as well as Casa de Velázquez’s research guidelines. The annual call for applications consists in several programs divided between annual and short-stays.

Massey University’s National Expedition and Internship Program is open to undergraduate students from any university wishing to study, travel, and intern in New Zealand. Organised by the ACEJMC-accredited School of Communication, Journalism and Marketing, it begins with the two week ‘Image and Identity Tour’ taking students across both Islands to delve into how successful the brands and images of the tourism industry are at capturing the attention of people new to the country and culture. The tour finishes in the capital city of Wellington where students stay to complete a four week internship working on real world problems relevant to their degrees in Journalism, Media Studies, Public Relations, Advertising, Marketing, Communication, or related areas.
