U Zurich: Center for Eastern European Studies Fellowships 2027 (Switzerland)

For the spring semester 2027, the Center for Eastern European Studies (CEES) at the University of Zurich offers 5-6 residential fellowships to highly talented and innovative young or mid-career scholars from the field of social sciences or humanities with a research focus on historical or contemporary topics related to Eastern Europe, Russia, the Caucasus, or Central Asia. The scholarship is for a period of up to four months starting in mid-February 2027.

While they welcome research proposals on all topics related to the study of Eastern Europe and post-Soviet Eurasia, for the spring semester 2027 fellowship program, they are particularly interested in applications from scholars with an interest in geopolitical trends, economic connectivity and/or transnational social and/or cultural issues related to the South Caucasus region.

NYU Abu Dhabi: Humanities Research Fellowship for the Study of the Arab World (UAE)

The Humanities Research Fellowship for the Study of the Arab World invites applications from established scholars for its Research Writing Residency, to be held at NYU Abu Dhabi from January 11-29, 2027.

The three-week residency will bring together an international cohort of up to ten scholars to advance an existing research project toward completion. They welcome projects in all areas of the Humanities related to the study of the Arab world, its rich literature and history, its cultural and artistic heritage, and its manifold connections with other cultures. Scholars may work on any type of academic writing, including a research article, book manuscript, chapter, or essay.

The residency is designed for scholars who are already well advanced in a research project and are in the writing, revision, or final stages of completing it. It is not intended for developing or beginning a new research project.

They welcome applications from mid-career and senior academics who are at least five years post-PhD, MFA, or an equivalent terminal degree and have an established record of independent research. Applicants should normally hold an academic position at the level of Associate Professor or equivalent, or above.

The fellowship will cover scholars’ travel to and from Abu Dhabi, accommodation, and meals for the duration of the residency.

European U Institute: Jean Monnet Fellowships (Italy)

The Robert Schuman Centre for Advanced Studies offers one-year Jean Monnet Fellowships to scholars who have obtained their doctorate more than five years prior to the start of the fellowship, i.e., 1 September 2027 for the academic year 2027-28. The Fellowship programme is open to post-docs, tenure-track academics and those wishing to spend their sabbatical at the Centre. The Centre offers up to 20 fellowships a year and invite you to become part of a lively and creative academic community!

Jean Monnet Fellows are selected on the basis of a research proposal and of their CV. The research proposal should fit well with one of the Centre’s main research themes, programmes and projects. More information about the Centre’s research programmes and projects can be found on the Research section.

Jean Monnet Fellows are based at the Robert Schuman Centre and associated with one of the Centre’s projects and programmes. They are expected to actively participate in the academic life of the Centre and contribute to the activities of the project or programme they are associated with. They can take part in the activities of the EUI postdoctoral programme and are encouraged to collaborate with researchers, other postdocs and EUI academic staff.

Those prospective applicants who would like to work with academics based in the Schuman Centre but who obtained their doctorate less than five years ago should consider applying to the Max Weber Programme.

Africa Institute, Global Studies U: Fellowships 2027 (UAE)

The Africa Institute, Global Studies University is a globally oriented center for research, documentation, study, and teaching of Africa and its diaspora in the humanities and social sciences. It hosts a series of senior and post-doctoral fellowships, awarded through its Research Fellowships Program.

Conceived as a research-based think-tank and a postgraduate studies institution, the Institute offers both masters and Ph.D. programs dedicated to training a new generation of critical thinkers in African and African diaspora studies and evolving a new model for academic research, teaching and documentation in the field.

In advancing these goals, The Africa Institute has inaugurated senior fellowships named in honor of the late Toni Morrison, an acclaimed literary icon known as the first African American woman to win the Nobel Prize in literature, and the esteemed late professor of African studies Ali A. Mazrui. In addition to these, there are two postdoctoral fellowships named for the scholar, curator, and art critic Okwui Enwezor and for world-renowned Moroccan scholar Fatema Mernissi

Tate Britain: Brooks International Fellowship (UK)

Tate welcomes applications for a Fellow to explore the British-Mexican artist Leonora Carrington’s interest in theatre, performance and performativity. The Fellow will undertake foundational research: locating, analysing, and contextualising theatrical materials across archives, manuscripts, correspondence, photographs and ephemera and situating these within Carrington’s transnational career. An international Fellow with knowledge of South American art, culture, and performance histories in the second half of the twentieth century will be particularly well placed to trace how Carrington’s performative work functioned as a vehicle for cross-cultural dialogue, collaboration, and exchange.

The Wilson Center invites scholars, practitioners, journalists, and public intellectuals to take part in its flagship Research Fellowship Program. Fellows conduct research and write in their areas of interest, while interacting with policymakers in Washington and other fellows. The Center accepts policy-relevant, nonpartisan fellowship proposals that address key foreign policy challenges confronting the United States and the world.

CFP CMM Institute: 2026-7 Fellows

The CMM Institute has a history of partnering with Scholar-Practitioners to further explore the ways that the social construction paradigm in communication (in general) and the Coordinated Management of Meaning (CMM) theory (specifically) may continue to play an expanding role in “making better social worlds.” For 2026-2027, they envision the continuance of the Fellows program with an open invitation for proposals that further increase the scope and range of the ways that CMM is applied as a “practical theory” to lead social innovation and break down barriers to change.

To this end, they are open to considering applications reflecting a wide range of social phenomena that can be seen as being “made in communication,” and exploring the intersectionality with CMM and other conceptual frameworks as part of re-imagining the way we live, work, and interact.

American Academy in Berlin: Berlin Prize Competition 2027-8 (Germany)

The American Academy in Berlin is an independent, nonprofit institute for advanced study in the arts, humanities, social sciences, law, journalism, and public policy. Its primary mission is to strengthen the cultural and intellectual ties between the United States and Germany. Each year, following a rigorous selection process, the Academy awards roughly two dozen semester-long fellowships to individuals who demonstrate excellence in their respective fields.

The Academy welcomes applications from a broad range of disciplines in the humanities, social sciences, law, journalism, and various areas of public policy. They also generally encourage projects that address pressing issues of the day, such as democracy, security, technology and society (especially AI), energy (including climate), and global order. Dedicated fellowships are also available to support projects in Jewish studies, German studies, and public health and biotechnology. While project proposals need not focus on topics related to Germany, candidates should explain how a residency in Berlin would enhance their work.

Ikeda Center for Peace, Learning, & Dialogue Education Fellowships 2027 (USA)

The Education Fellows Program was established by the Ikeda Center for Peace, Learning, and Dialogue in 2007. The program honors the educational legacy of global peace builder and Center founder, Daisaku Ikeda, and aims to advance research and scholarship on the internationally growing field of Ikeda/Soka studies in education.

The Ikeda Center Education Fellows Program supports doctoral dissertations in the field of Ikeda/Soka studies in education, including its relation to the philosophy and practice of education more generally. Up to three Ikeda Center Education Fellows will be selected by an Advisory Council of leading education scholars each application period. Fellows will be eligible for two years of funding at $10,000 per year, with the second year contingent on proof of progress.

Aarhus Institute for Advanced Studies: Visiting Fellowships 2027 (Denmark)

Aarhus Institute of Advanced Studies at Aarhus University offers a number of visiting fellowships to outstanding researchers from abroad who are looking for an opportunity to engage in the international and interdisciplinary research community of AIAS and to collaborate with the research environments at Aarhus University (AU).

Visiting fellows will have their daily office space at AIAS, and will have the opportunity to participate in the activities at AIAS and at the relevant research environments at AU. AIAS offers optimal office facilities, and a thriving international and interdisciplinary community with joint social and academic activities.

Applicants must have a PhD and a minimum of four years of postdoctoral research experience at the time of the application deadline. AIAS Visiting Fellowships are without salary, and it is therefore expected that successful applicants will bring their salary with them from their home institution. Applicants should have active collaborations with Aarhus University and have established contact with a researcher or research community at Aarhus University. An open-minded approach and a curiosity to other academic disciplines than your own is a great advantage.
