U Penn: Outreach Coordinator of South Asia Center (USA)

The Outreach Coordinator, reporting to the Associate Director and the Center Director, is responsible for administrative support for Center programs, as well as planning and implementing global and South Asia-specific outreach programs intended to inform the Penn community, K-12, post-secondary schools and the general public about South Asia (India, Pakistan, Sri Lanka, Bangladesh, Nepal, and Afghanistan). The outreach coordinator is responsible for outreach activities that involve (1) Elementary and secondary schools; (2) Postsecondary institutions; and (3) Business, media, and the general-public. General duties include event and program coordination; strengthening present and forging new partnerships with the Center’s outreach constituencies, particularly schools and teachers in the region; helping develop the Center’s online resources, and various financial processes.

The Outreach coordinator is also responsible for planning, implementing, and promoting structured research and academic opportunities on and in South Asia involving Penn faculty, students, and alumni. The position will support and organize academic programming including summer research internships and promotion of South Asia-related research at Penn and in South Asia via newsletter, website, and social media venues.

The Center is supported by a grant from the US Department of Education and will require some data collection of outreach programming for annual reports. Position is contingent on continued funding.

The Department of Near and Middle Eastern Studies welcomes applications for the position of Lecturer (Yunus Emre Institute Lectureship in Turkish Cultural History) in Turkish Cultural History. Applications from candidates with a specialisation in the social and/or cultural history of the Ottoman Empire will be particularly welcome. Applicants must hold a PhD and have a strong research profile appropriate to their career stage. They will be expected to demonstrate an ability to address wider thematic debates and to teach survey courses to undergraduates, as well as offer more advanced research led modules in their area of specialisation. They will also be expected to develop modules for post graduate students. The successful candidate will develop new modules as well as contribute to modules in the Department of Near and Middle Eastern Studies and in the School of Languages, Literatures and Cultural Studies. The successful candidate will also be expected to undertake the organisation of public events and outreach related to Turkish Cultural History in consultation with the Head of Department of Near and Middle Eastern Studies and the Yunus Emre Institute.

A new, independent think tank seeks an enthusiastic and rigorous migration researcher who is able to help inform and frame migration policy discussion by effectively engaging decision makers and other audiences. Do you share our drive to promote a more constructive approach to migration? Migration Policy Scotland (MPS) was launched in 2021 and they are seeking a Researcher or Senior Researcher to work alongside their Director. The Trustees and Director can picture a number of ways in which an individual might help strengthen MPS and its work through this role. As a result, they are seeking EITHER a full-time Researcher or a part-time Senior Researcher but recognise that candidates may have skills and experiences that cut across the two roles. This is a remote working opportunity and could be based anywhere in Scotland, but it is likely to involve regular meetings, particularly in Edinburgh.

  1. Senior Researcher

Reporting to the Director of the Global Exchange on Migration and Diversity, you will be Principal Investigator and lead for the award-winning C-MISE, the city initiative on migrants with irregular status in Europe. You will provide clear leadership for this innovative programme as it moves into the next phase of its development, being integral in the formulation of its new strategic plan. You will have a passion both for academic research and for knowledge exchange with policy makers, NGOs, and other stakeholders. You will be able to equally balance these two aspects of the role, undertaking research with pathways for publishing in an academic context, alongside a clear focus on applied knowledge exchange and policy engagement. The post is offered on a full-time basis for up to 34 months, available from 1st June 2022 or as soon as possible thereafter. The post is based in the UK. Requests for flexible working will always be taken into consideration and will be accommodated as far as possible.

2. Researcher

Reporting to the Director of the Global Exchange on Migration and Diversity, you will be responsible for carrying out a research and knowledge exchange project focused on the No Recourse to Public Funds (NRPF) immigration condition and social services provision for those at risk of destitution. You will have a passion both for academic research and for knowledge exchange with policy makers, NGOs, and other stakeholders. You will be able to equally balance these two aspects of the role, undertaking research with clear pathways for publishing in an academic context, alongside a clear focus on applied knowledge exchange and policy engagement. The post is offered on a full-time basis for 18 months from 1 May 2022 (with the possibility of extension). Requests for flexible working will always be taken into consideration and will be accommodated as far as possible.
