As always, if there is a concept you think should be written up as one of the Key Concepts, whether in English or any other language, propose it. If you are new to CID, please provide a brief resume. This opportunity is open to masters students and above, on the assumption that some familiarity with academic conventions generally, and discussion of intercultural dialogue specifically, are useful.

Paid Undergrad Summer Internship: Peace & Conflict (USA)

The Peace and Conflict Neuroscience Lab at the University of Pennsylvania, directed by Dr. Emile Bruneau, and in collaboration with Beyond Conflict Innovation Lab, is seeking summer research assistants. This 8-week at 30hr/week (negotiable) paid ($4,500 summer stipend) internship has an anticipated start date of June 2019. RAs will have the option to work in Philadelphia, PA or New York City. The research assistants will work closely with the postdoctoral researchers (Drs. Samantha Moore-Berg and Boaz Hameiri) on projects aimed at identifying the psychological drivers of real-world social conflict, injustice and inequality, and/or affecting change in these intergroup contexts. Applicants with specific interest or direct experience with conflict and/or discrimination are particularly encouraged to apply. This internship is designed to help individuals strengthen their research skills and will include ongoing mentoring and guidance from skilled researchers.

Editors of the journalComparative Migration Studies are looking for articles that push present understandings of migration, integration, and race and ethnic relations in new conceptual, methodological, and empirical, directions. A special issue should include at least 4 original articles, plus an introduction. Proposals should provide an outline of the special issue, provisional titles and author names of contributors (who should have confirmed their participation), and at least 1 complete paper. All articles for CMS should include an abstract of no more than 250 words and observe a word-limit of 9,000 words.

Paris Seine Institute for Advanced Studies Fellowships (France)

As part of the Paris Seine excellence initiative (PSI), a Call for Proposals is launched to support research excellence and international development. The PSI-IAS (Institute for Advanced Studies) Fellowships program is an international multidisciplinary visiting program. Researchers of all nationalities are eligible. The program will host 10 junior and senior researchers, for a duration ranging from 4 months to one year, during the academic year 2019-2020.

U East Anglia Postgraduate Scholarships: International Development (UK)

Scholarship awards are available to students studying in the School of International Development at the University of East Anglia for entry in September 2019. Programs include: MA Conflict, Governance and International Development, and MA Media and International Development, among others.

These can cover part or full tuition fees (UK/EU/International rates) and help support living costs and travel expenses. Application deadline dates to apply for a scholarship can vary. Candidates are advised to check the School of International Development’s website for individual deadlines.

CFP Various Guises of Translanguaging (Belgium)

This symposium will explore the paradoxes of translanguaging – how it is theorized, used and explained. Organizers seek to clarify but also critically evaluate the concept and to engage participants in discussion of their own and our related research. The aim of this symposium is to bring together researchers working in different disciplines, to collect a variety of perspectives on translanguaging and to stimulate discussion and participation in a day of collaborative inquiry. The symposium is a combination of traditional paper presentations and a series of keynote discussions

The University of Dayton seeks a collaborative and strategic academic leader to serve as chairperson of the Department of Global Languages and Cultures (GLC) in the College of Arts and Sciences beginning July 1, 2019. The chairperson will be hired with tenure and at the rank of Associate Professor or Professor. The chairperson is responsible for administrative, curricular, co-curricular and budgetary facets of the department, plays a unique role engaging students and faculty, and facilitates building and sustaining partnerships across the University and in the broader community.

The Department of Global Languages and Cultures offers a Bachelor of Arts in French, German, and Spanish, as well as minors in Arabic, Chinese (Mandarin), French, German, Italian, and Spanish, and instruction in Latin and Russian.

Erasmus+ Jean Monnet Chairs

A Jean Monnet Chair is a teaching post with a specialisation in European Union studies for university professors, supported by Erasmus+. It can only be held by one professor [per institution], who must provide the minimum of 90 teaching hours per academic year over a period of three consecutive years. In addition the Chair must carry out at least one additional activity per academic year.

The applicant must be a higher education institution (HEI) established in any country of the world. HEIs established in Programme Countries must hold a valid Erasmus Charter for Higher Education (ECHE). An ECHE is not required for participating HEIs in Partner Countries. HEIs have the final responsibility for their applications. They are obliged to maintain the activities of a Chair during the entire duration of the project including replacing a Chair holder if required. Please note that individuals cannot apply directly for a grant.
