Exchange programmes across religious educational institutions only exist within a few countries around the world. In most countries, exchange does not exist due either to a lack of interest, a lack of resources, and/or a lack of diversity of religious institutions. KAICIID recognises the integral part of knowledge-sharing among religious education institutions that train future leaders. The Centre aims to connect these institutions and their select teachers to a network of an active transnational community of interreligious dialogue practitioners in order to advocate for peace. The KAICIID International Fellows Programm seeks to not only address these problems but also to network institutions that train religious leaders transnationally so that interreligious dialogue can become a common feature of any religious training, whatever the religion might be.

All documents for the 2021/2022 Latin American and the Caribbean Regional Fellows Programme must be submitted by 30 May 2021. All documents for the 2022 KAICIID International Fellows Programme must be submitted by 10 June 2021.

Communication of Scientific Research 2021 (Italy)

Study AbroadSummer School in the Communication of Scientific Research, taught by Maria Flora Mangano, August 3-5, 2021, Viterbo, Italy. Deadline: June 20 2021.

The CSR summer school is dedicated to the theory and practice of communication of scientific research, by providing basic instructions on the construction of written and oral text, with analysis in class of written and oral contributions by the participants. This year’s class is particular addressed to non-Italian young researchers, and will be taught in English.

The training in communication of scientific research is an interdisciplinary postgraduate offering dedicated to professionals of science: people who conduct research within the international academic community. The CSR teaching program is addressed to young researchers (PhD students and post-doctoral fellows) drawn from different fields in the natural, social, and human sciences.

Since 2020, a CSR fund has been established, which intends to facilitate the participation of young researchers. The fund has been developed by Italian CSR alumni who wish to help their peers to have access to the CSR training. This year the CSR fund offers two grants of € 150 each which are intended for highly motivated young researchers who cannot cover the whole cost of the CSR school. Priority will be given to those who live in the Mediterranean area (especially the Balkans, Maghreb and the Middle East), as well as to the young researchers who live in Central and Southern Africa, and in Central and Southern America.

As always, if there is a concept you think should be written up as one of the Key Concepts, whether in English or any other language, propose it. If you are new to CID, please provide a brief resume. This opportunity is open to masters students and above, on the assumption that some familiarity with academic conventions generally, and discussion of intercultural dialogue specifically, are useful.

Intercultural Innovation Award 2021

Call for nominations: Intercultural Innovation Award, UNAOC and BMW Group, USA and Germany. Deadline: 27 May 2021.

For the past ten years, the United Nations Alliance of Civilizations (UNAOC) and the BMW Group have invited organizations around the world to apply for the Intercultural Innovation Award. The two partners have used this award to support innovative projects promoting intercultural understanding.

This year, the focus will primarily be on projects promoting gender equality, countering violent extremism, hatred, and prejudices, and advocating for art, culture, and sports as vehicles for social cohesion and diversity.

To leverage the social impact of the selected projects, all ten finalists will receive the same financial assistance. For this reason, with the support of the consulting firm Accenture, the partners have increased the financial award to USD 200,000. In addition, the finalists will receive individual and professional consulting and participate in various training sessions and workshops. Recipients will also have access to “Intercultural Leaders”, an exclusive skills and knowledge-sharing platform developed by UNAOC and BMW Group for civil society organizations and young leaders working on promoting intercultural dialogue worldwide.

The University seeks to appoint an open-ended, full time Lecturer or Senior Lecturer in Sociolinguistics, within the department of Linguistics and English Language, School of Philosophy, Psychology and Language Sciences. The post holder will contribute high quality research, teaching and academic citizenship. Current strengths in the department related to sociolinguistics include sociophonetics, language variation and change, language and identity, language and politics, language attitudes, applied linguistics and English dialectology. The department is interested in building on its existing strengths and in expanding the range of research areas that are currently taught and researched. Applicants are encouraged to indicate in their covering letter how their research programme would add to these current areas of focus.

Experience in research with a qualitative orientation will be a plus. The successful candidate will be expected to have an excellent publication record for their career stage, and to demonstrate potential for attracting external grant funding: the potential to make a significant contribution to the research culture of the School is essential. The successful candidate will offer courses at both UG and MSc level and will be expected to supervise and recruit PhD students.

U Otago: Communication Studies (New Zealand)

The University of Otago is seeking to appoint two outstanding Lecturers to join the Media, Film, and Communication Programme. These roles are full-time, permanent (confirmation path) positions. Both Lecturers will teach primarily into the Communication Studies area.

The positions provide the opportunity to work within a strong and forward-looking programme dedicated to excellence in teaching and research, as well as a spirit of collegiality. The successful candidate will contribute to teaching and curriculum development at undergraduate level, be involved in postgraduate supervision, and carry out a programme of independent research.

People in this role will be expected to make a strong contribution to several of the following areas of the developing curriculum:

  • Critical communication and cultural theory
  • News media
  • Advertising and consumer culture
  • Intercultural communication
  • Surveillance studies
  • Environmental communication
  • Writing for the media
  • Indigenous or intersectional approaches.

They particularly welcome applications from Māori and Pasifika scholars with research interests in any area of Communication Studies, in particular Indigenous and/or intersectional approaches.
