Humboldt Research Fellowships (Germany)

FellowshipsHumboldt Research Fellowships, Alexander von Humboldt Foundation, Germany. Deadline: Selection committee meets March, July, and September each year, and you should apply well in advance.

The Humboldt Research Fellowship is available to researchers of all nationalities and research areas, at either the postdoctoral or experienced researcher level, to conduct research in Germany. Through the Humboldt Research Fellowship, the Alexander von Humboldt Foundation sponsors researchers with above-average qualifications from across the globe. The fellowship enables you to conduct your own research at various stages of your career in collaboration with a host at a German research institution of your choice. Hosts may apply for a subsidy towards research costs.

Postdocs

Benefit from research sponsorship in Germany at the beginning of your academic career. The Humboldt Research Fellowship for postdoctoral researchers enables you to conduct research in Germany. The monthly fellowship amount is €2,670. Fellowships may last from 6 to 24 months.

Experienced researchers

You can still apply for research sponsorship in Germany even if you are already well advanced in your academic career. The Humboldt Research Fellowship for experienced researchers enables you to conduct research in Germany. The fellowship amount is €3,170. Fellowships may last from 6 to 18 months and can be divided into up to three stays within three years.

They are currently offering two part-time positions (50 %), for PhD Candidate and Research Assistant in the field of Intercultural Communication and Business. The position is to be filled on a fixed-term basis at the Chair of Intercultural Communication and Business, Department of English at the Faculty of Language, Literature, Culture. As long as the maximum permissible duration of a fixed-term contract is not exceeded, you will be employed for an initial period of 3 years. Your tasks at a glance:

They will also undertake doctoral supervision and conduct high quality research. The successful candidate will have expertise in, or that can be applied to, international and comparative education, education and international development, education in a global context and/or intercultural education. Expertise relating to school leadership and management will be particularly welcome but is not essential.

The Global Citizenship Observatory (GLOBALCIT) is seeking to recruit new experts to assist with data collection for the following countries:

They will do so by means of a standardised datasheet prepared by the GLOBALCIT team in line with the methodology of the Globalcit Citizenship Law Dataset.

They are offering a token fee of 200 euros.

Cultural Identity and Multiculturalism on Film (Canada)

Intercultural Pedagogyi am… Films about cultural identity, multiculturalism, and integration, available for free from Toronto Metropolitan University, Canada.

Graduate students from across Canada were invited to submit proposals to be part of an exciting opportunity to capture their individual expressions of identity and belonging or not belonging in a three-minute film. Through a competitive selection process, 28 students were selected to receive professional mentorship and support to produce an engaging short film of their unique story. Most of them had little or no filmmaking experience but got busy inside their pandemic bubbles for six months. These short films together weave a tapestry of Canadian identity today. Project led by Toronto Metropolitan University professor Anna Triandafyllidou, the Canada Excellence Research Chair (CERC) in Migration and Integration, and by Gemini award-winning filmmaker and scholar Cyrus Sundar Singh.

Development, Interculturality & Power

Resources in ICD“ width=Chichizola Ramirez, B. E. (2022). Development, interculturality and power: Translating an NGO-led development intervention in the Peruvian Andes. New York, NY: Peter Lang.

Interculturality involves a dialogue among diverse cultures and the redistribution of power, and in countries such as Peru has most often been discussed alongside intercultural bilingual education (IBE). In this book, Chichizola moves interculturality away from its educational context to explore its practice in the complex negotiation of social development projects. The book provides the reader with a close look at the internal negotiations among scientists, development experts and Quechua communities from London to Peru. Using Actor-Network Theory as an ethnographic approach, the book invites us to reflect on the need to re-politicise the discourse around interculturality.

The Center for Intercultural Dialogue publishes a series of short briefs describing Key Concepts in Intercultural Dialogue. Different people, working in different countries and disciplines, use different vocabulary to describe their interests, yet these terms overlap. Our goal is to provide some of the assumptions and history attached to each concept for those unfamiliar with it. As there are other concepts you would like to see included, send an email to the series editor, Wendy Leeds-Hurwitz. If there are concepts you would like to prepare, provide a brief explanation of why you think the concept is central to the study of intercultural dialogue, and why you are the obvious person to write up that concept.

The applicant should have an outstanding, thematically relevant, doctorate in intercultural communication in particular with regard to its social and cultural-scientific reference disciplines (e.g., sociology, political science, social or cultural geography). The candidate should have an outstanding international reputation in one of the following areas in intercultural communication: a) global mobility and migration, b) diversity and processes of integration and inclusion in societal diversification. The candidate should be willing to extend his/her/their research agenda towards the second area, as both areas are fundamental for the tenure track procedure.

He/She/They should display potential for successful international publication activity as well as for high-quality teaching in a Bachelor‘s and Master‘s programs: Intercultural Business Communication (BA), Intercultural Music – and Event Management (BA), Intercultural Human Resource Development and Communication Management (MA), and our international double-degree programs. The language of instruction is mainly German.
