The Department of Translation, Interpreting and Communication of the Faculty of Arts and Philosophy of Ghent University offers a Bachelor degree in Applied Language Studies, three one-year Masters degrees (Translation, Interpreting, Multilingual Communication), one two-year Master of Education and a one-year postgraduate degree in Computer-Assisted Language Mediation. We have a vacancy for an assistant professor (tenure track) in specialised translation, whose appointment will include academic teaching, academic research and academic services in the field of French language, culture and society.

You will be required to lecture on the French language and society, as well as translation between the French and Dutch languages (legal translation, in particular). You will be conducting research in the field of specialised translation from and into French, within the context of the TRACE research group. TRACE favours an interdisciplinary approach to Translation Studies and studies the cultural and societal processes involved in translation.

At the Institute for Media Studies, embedded in the Faculty of Social Sciences of KU Leuven, a full time professor position (ZAP) is vacant. Katholieke Universiteit (KU) Leuven is one of the leading academic institutions in Europe and its mission is to provide excellent academic education, research and services. KU Leuven is a member of the League of European Research Universities (LERU) and is consistently ranked among the top 10 universities in Europe. Within the Faculty of Social Sciences, the Institute for Media Studies (IMS), in addition to the School for Mass Communication Research (SMCR), is a research unit that focuses on research on media and communication in society.

The focus in research is mainly on media content, production, effects and usage of media—usually in relation to society and societal issues. A great deal of attention is paid to the consequences of the far-reaching digitalisation of communication. IMS is known for its broad orientation, openness and diversity within the team of employees, which translates into a variety of theoretical perspectives, questions and quantitative and qualitative methods in the research. This vacancy can be situated within the broad domain of (digital) media and corporate communication (companies, government agencies, NGOs, etc.).

Ali Karakaş is an Associate Professor in the Department of English Language Teaching at Mehmet Akif Ersoy University, Turkey. He earned his PhD in Applied Linguistics from Southampton University, UK. His research interests include Global Englishes, Language Policy, Planning, and Teacher Education.

This opportunity is open to masters students and above, on the assumption that some familiarity with academic conventions generally, and discussion of intercultural dialogue specifically, are useful.

The Center for Intercultural Dialogue publishes a series of short briefs describing Key Concepts in Intercultural Dialogue. Different people, working in different countries and disciplines, use different vocabulary to describe their interests, yet these terms overlap. Our goal is to provide some of the assumptions and history attached to each concept for those unfamiliar with it. As there are other concepts you would like to see included, send an email to the series editor, Wendy Leeds-Hurwitz. If there are concepts you would like to prepare, provide a brief explanation of why you think the concept is central to the study of intercultural dialogue, and why you are the obvious person to write up that concept.

UNU-CRIS is looking to recruit a Research Fellow to lead and help advance the research, reputation, and impact of the institute and, more specifically, lead the Regions and Cities Governance Lab (Re-LAB). The specific mission of UNU-CRIS is to foster a better understanding of the processes of regional integration and cooperation and their implications in a changing world order. UNU-CRIS specialises in the comparative study of regional integration, monitoring and assessing regional integration worldwide and in the study of interactions between regional organisations and global institutions. The Department of Communication Studies at the University of Georgia invites applications for a full-time, tenure-track assistant professor position in Global Health Communication. The starting date for this position is August 1, 2021. Candidates must hold a Ph.D. in Communication or a related field at the time of appointment. The successful candidate will have evidence of excellence in teaching and a strong research program in global health communication, including interest and training in seeking external funding. The ideal candidate will have a scholarship and teaching focus on diversity, identity, discrimination or social justice as they relate to new media and communication technologies, health campaigns, or interpersonal communication.
