Key Responsibilities
• Provide university-wide leadership to various areas in order to internationalize the University including research, outreach, culture, diversity, curriculum, partnerships, grants, and entrepreneurial activities.
• Provide direct supervision to international affairs staff and coordinate with other supervisors regarding dual reporting roles.
• Establish an action plan to implement strategic initiatives and international activities.
• Communicate and collaborate with various internal and external constituents.• Represent the university in dealings with foreign partners and manage relationship with foreign partners.
• Represent the university to agencies on matters relating to International Affairs; seek grants and resources from external agencies to fulfill the university’s vision.
• Create collaborative programs pertaining to international student and their issues
• Attend and be visible/present in events/programs on campus that are relevant to international student and their issues
• Outreach to other student organization, academic colleges and administrative areas addressing similar issues including, but not limited to, Diversity Development, Intercultural Student Services, the Cultural Resource Centers, University Housing and Dining Services related to international students and faculties.
• Be a student advocate for international affairs and strive to create a safe, open environment
• Work closely with the Directors of Government Relations issues and policies concerning international students in higher education.
• Conduct research projects, such as surveys, petitions and focus groups in order to gather student concerns and interests. 

Education & Experience Requirements
• Phd. from any discipline related to Engineering, Technology, Health Science, Law & Management.
• Should have served as Senior Faculty for minimum of 10 yrs. in a reputed University.
• Should have exposed to international academic societies and culture.
• Should be able to best represent the university to international communities, students and faculty members in line with the goals of the university.
• Should be a person with universal personalities including rich interpersonal skills, understanding on different cultures and people from different ethnic origins and international legal frameworks related to academics.

Archana ShrivastavaHaving worked at various universities and colleges, she has 19 years of research, teaching and training experience. Dr. Shrivastava earned her Ph.D. and M.A. in English literature from Dr. Hari Singh Gour University, Sagar in M.P. She is a Thomas certified professional and can perform Personal Profile Analysis (PPA) and Human Job Analysis (HJA). She is trained to teach “Business English Certificate Course” and is also an active member of the Association for Business Communication, Communication Institute of Greece, and Eastern Communication Association.

Her current research and publications are in the areas of cross-cultural communication, leadership, team building, skill development. She has participated and presented papers in various conferences both in India and abroad. Pradeep Prabhakar Gokhale is Dr. B. R. Ambedkar Research Professor at the Central University of Tibetan Studies, Sarnath (Varanasi), India.

GokhaleHe retired in 2012 as Professor of Philosophy from the University of Pune after 31 years of teaching. His research areas include classical Indian philosophies: Buddhism, Lokāyata, Yoga, Jainism; Indian epistemology and logic; Indian moral philosophy; social philosophy and philosophy of religion: Ambedkar’s thought and contemporary Buddhism.

Authored books in English are: Inference and fallacies discussed in Indian logic; Vādanyāya of Dharmakirti: The logic of debate; Hetubindu of Dharmakirti: A point on probans; Recollection, recognition and reasoning: A study in the Jaina theory of Paroksha Pramana (co-authored); and Lokāyata/Cārvāka: A philosophical inquiry. Authored books in Marathi are: Viṣamatecā Puraskartā Manu; and Tattvacintaka Cārvāka. Edited books in English are: The philosophy of Dr. B. R. Ambedkar; Studies in Indian moral philosophy: Problems, concepts and perspectives (co-edited); and Buddhist texts and traditions (co-edited). Clothing as a Tool of Intercultural Dialogue: New Zealand and India

New Zealand fashion students recreate modern-day wear from traditional Indian silk saris

In a unique celebration joining New Zealand and Indian cultures, 15 New Zealand Fashion Tech students won Prime Minister’s Scholarships for Asia, covering travel to the Bannari Amman Institute of Technology in India to participate in a five week Apparel and Textile Practicum. Students earned the awards by creating garments made from traditional Indian sari fabrics. The inaugural Resene Designer Selection showcased the hand-crafted silk from Southern India made especially for their garments. Four of the NZ students were Maori. The goal was to take students outside the classroom and give them an international and applied perspective.

Further information about this project is available in a New Zealand journal article entitled “A pattern for success” published in Educator Review, and in an Indian newspaper article entitled “Indian silk, New Zealand patterns”. Continuing descriptions by the students of their experiences are also available on their university’s website.

The Department of Communication at the Indian Institute of Management, Ahmedabad (IIM-A) seeks communication scholars for a full time faculty position (equivalent to tenure track) in the area of organizational communication. Depending on the applicant’s qualifications, he or she would be appointed as a professor, associate professor or assistant professor.

This position requires a commitment to a strong research agenda and excellence in graduate-level teaching which will enable the applicant to meet the institute’s criteria for confirmation of appointment at the appropriate time.

Applicants should have a Ph.D. degree in Communication or a closely related discipline by the start of appointment. Candidates who are close to completing their PhD (all but dissertation) and demonstrate sound record of teaching and research, may be considered for the position of assistant professor. REGION AS FRAME: POLITICS, PRESENCE, PRACTICE


Region as frameThe International Association for Media and Communication Research (IAMCR) invites submissions of abstracts for papers and panel proposals for the 2014 IAMCR conference to be held from 15 -19 July, 2014 at Hyderabad, India. The deadline to submit your abstract is midnight GMT on 10 February 2014. This deadline will not be extended. For details about submissions, go to the IAMCR 2014 website. The conference is co-hosted by the Department of Communication, University of Hyderabad, and the School of Communication, English and Foreign Languages University, both in Hyderabad, India.

Conference Theme:
The breaking down of some the world’s walls has created an uncertainty about the geographies and substantive nature of the regions they had once defined. This includes physical boundaries such as the Berlin wall, ideological ones such as those in Eastern Europe and the former Soviet Union, economic ones such as those that had once separated India and other socialist economies from the capitalist West, and cultural ones such as those that had hidden the lives of people in the Middle Eastern and Soviet bloc.

Mobility, migration and disembodied interactions by cyberspace further complicate the notion of region as a conceptual and experiential category. New regional hierarchies, such as the economic power of emerging economies (BRICS) are taking shape, serving to decentre traditional loci of power, while different forms of identity politics are creating fissures in the modern nation state. Corporations have acquired the power to dictate politics through their ownership of forms and channels of expression, and this has created a new urgency to re-think old political economy arguments around media control and dispersal in a regional rather than global framework.

The conference theme seeks to explore the dynamics of media systems, communication patterns and organizational relationships within this new “framing” of region as a physical and conceptual category. The theme thus lends itself to panels and papers dealing with a wide range of specific sub-themes and topics. These may include:

• What are the politics that drive media discourse, organization and economics?

• What kind of presence is at all possible in this redefined regional space, and how does region become a real and imagined construct across new media presences?

• What sorts of practices then become key to media and communication spaces enclosed in or defined by this new frame?

International Conference on Fourth World Literature & Culture is organised by Higher Education and Research Society, a Navi Mumbai based Government Registered Educational Society. The conference renders a humble platform for deliberation upon the state policies and human endeavours to bridge the digital divide between the Fourth World and rest of the globe. It also problematizes the son-of-the-soil dynamics as one third of the ethnic civil wars could be labelled son-of-the-soil conflicts. The conference could rationalize reality of the ongoing marginalization of the Fourth World Nations by the imperial power under the banner of ‘modernization’, ‘progress’ and ‘development’. It intends to initiate the investigation that accounts for both the process of integration on global scale and the process of self-identification on the local indigenous level. The distinct literary representation of the indigenous people is quite rare. Rather, it becomes their appropriation in the fold of mainstream culture eliminating their uniqueness. The conference not only encourages but makes a strong plea for voicing the silenced ethnic marginal. The Mainstream writers’ literary representation of these ethnic minority groups often tends to be a romanticization, objectification or mere stereotyping. Hence there is an urgent need of a separate niche of the Fourth World Literature to be carved on the Literary Canon.
