The Department of Communication seeks to expand the Intergroup Dialogue (IGD) Program, motivated by the belief that communication is integral to connection and change across diverse contexts. To that end, the Department welcomes applicants who are innovative and interdisciplinary to:

  • partner with students to co-facilitate courses in intergroup dialogue.
  • teach courses in area(s) of specialization.
  • maintain an active research and publication program.
  • oversee the IGD and Social Change micro-credential.
  • coordinate individuals from across the campus who are interested in supporting the Intergroup Dialogue Program.
  • oversee the student-coordinated DICE (Diversity and Inclusion Community Educator) program.
  • lead the collaborative development of a communication-centered interdisciplinary program aimed at supporting human connection and positive change.

A successful candidate will have experience in two or more areas related to intergroup relations, such as: intergroup communication, peace studies, nonviolent communication, conflict management, dialogic communication, or intercultural communication. Applicants will also contribute to the shared and rotating introductory and capstone Communication courses.

King’s Global Health & Social Medicine is a unique interdisciplinary department at King’s College London founded in 2012. Its mission is to address the changing landscape of health and medicine from social science perspectives. The Department invites applications for a Senior Lecturer/Reader in Racism and Health with a particular expertise in Qualitative Research. They particularly seek applicants who engage in empirical research relevant to understanding lived experience of the impact of racism on health, either in the UK or in another geographic context.

You should hold a PhD in any relevant social science (e.g., sociology, anthropology) or interdisciplinary field (e.g. science and technology studies; women’s, gender, sexuality studies). Areas of expertise include but are not limited to: Black British experiences in the UK health system; experiences of racism and health in another geographic context in Europe, Latin America, Australia, Africa, or elsewhere; patient and/or community health activism in a domain such as environmental justice, reproductive justice, disability rights, LGBTQ rights; Indigenous health; chronic disease; mental health; ageing and the life course.

The Department of Modern Languages and Cultures, within the School of Languages, Linguistics and Film, is looking to appoint a suitably qualified Lecturer specialising in Chinese Studies and Digital Cultures. Applicants with specialisms in literature, film, visual arts, or culture and the ability to contribute towards our Liberal Arts and/or Global Development programmes would be especially welcome.

Duties will include research and publication, convening and teaching undergraduate modules, contributing to MA provision as appropriate, (co)-supervising PhD students, and undertaking administrative roles as required within the Department. You will be able to develop new modules, and adapt existing ones, in line with their specific research strengths. The ability to teach Chinese language to undergraduate students is essential. Knowledge of main critical theories within digital media and/or knowledge of digital methods with a particular focus on the humanities is also essential. Evidence of high-quality research and publications in renowned journals is also expected.

Applications are invited from specialists with a research background in one or more of the following areas: modern and contemporary Chinese literature, film, and culture; interdisciplinary (text, film, art, stage) or trans-historical work. You will be expected to teach on the following modules during your first year of appointment:

Opera North is delighted to welcome violinist Cristina Ocaña Rosado. Originally from Malaga, Cristina has been playing in the second violin section of the Orchestra of Opera North for the last eight years. She will be joined by choral conductor Elena Camblor-González. Together, they will introduce you to some of their favourite Spanish songs. Why not come and sing along from the comfort of your home? Workshops are open to singers of all abilities. No prior musical knowledge is required. There is a minimal fee for participation.

U Edinburgh Postdoc: Situating International and Global Mathematics (UK)

You will join the UKRI Frontier Research Guarantee project ‘Situating International and Global Mathematics’ (SIGMA), investigating the global history of professional mathematical research in the twentieth century, working primarily on either Institutions (using methods of archival and institutional history to analyse how mathematicians organised their research and professional communities across new scales in the twentieth century) or Infrastructures (using methods of critical information studies to develop new database-supported approaches to characterising the infrastructures of long-distance and large-scale mathematical research). You will use a variety of historical research methods, coordinate events and research networks, and collaboratively develop resources and publications as part of the project team.

It is not necessary for candidates to have experience in history of mathematics, modern history, or other specific project fields and methodologies, provided you demonstrate other relevant skills and knowledge and are interested and willing to undertake further training as necessary.

Anssi Roiha Profile

Profiles

Anssi Roiha works as a university lecturer in foreign language didactics at the Department of Teacher Education at the University of Turku, Finland. He teaches subject-specific didactics to pre-service language teachers, including the topic of critical intercultural education in language teaching.

Anssi RoihaRoiha obtained his PhD (University of Jyväskylä, Finland) in 2020. His doctoral research examined the long-term effects of Content and Language Integrated Learning (CLIL) on former students’ lives. One of his PhD articles, co-written with Mélodine Sommier, was about the participants’ foreign language and intercultural attitudes and was published in Language and Intercultural Communication.

Intercultural education is among Roiha’s research interests; he has published articles and book chapters on the topic. Recently, he has co-edited a special issue in the Journal of Praxis in Higher Education and a book with Routledge on critical intercultural education with Mélodine Sommier and Malgorzata Lahti. Roiha’s other research interests include bilingual education and differentiation and he has also published widely on those topics.

Roiha is currently a member of the European Center For Modern Languages of the Council of Europe project CLIL LOTE and a co-coordinator of the portfolio group. The project sees CLIL as part of intercultural education and as a vehicle for promoting pluralistic approaches to language learning.
