There will be two interactive research sessions, August 7 and August 9. Organizers invite you to submit your research on media and communication in South Asia or its diaspora worldwide across a wide range of perspectives and approaches.

The programming groups within the Council of Divisions of the Association for Education in Journalism and Mass Communication invite submission of original, non­published, research papers to be considered for presentation at the AEJMC Conference, August 7 to 10, 2023, in Washington, D.C. Specific requirements for each competition — including limits on paper length — are spelled out in the listing of groups and research chairs that appear below. Submissions are to be in English only. All research submissions must be uploaded through an online server to the group appropriate to the submission’s topic via this link.

The Joint Journalism and Communication History Conference, co-sponsored by the American Journalism Historians Association and the History Division of the Association for Education in Journalism and Mass Communication, is now accepting submissions for its 2023 conference, to be held virtually via Zoom.

This free, one-day, interdisciplinary conference welcomes faculty, graduate students, and independent scholars researching the history of journalism and mass communication. Topics from all geographic areas and time periods are welcome, as are all methodological approaches. This conference offers a welcoming environment in which participants can explore new ideas, garner feedback on their work, and meet colleagues from around the world interested in journalism and mass communication history.

AEJMC Emerging Scholars Grants: 2023

AEJMC Emerging Scholars Program 2023 Research or Teaching Grants. Deadline: 3 October 2022.

The Association for Education in Journalism and Mass Communication (AEJMC) Emerging Scholars Program will award $3,500 research and teaching grants to up to four research or teaching proposals to encourage innovative and timely projects in journalism and mass communication.AEJMC members may submit proposals for these grants in the fall of 2022, and selections will be announced by early January 2023.

The AEJMC Emerging Scholars Program is designed to develop and nurture JMC teachers and researchers by fostering an intellectually stimulating environment. This program’s mission is to identify, encourage and recognize some of AEJMC’s most promising emerging scholars by providing funding for research or teaching projects. If requested, proposals selected for funding will be matched with a recognized scholar to serve as a mentor throughout the project. The mentor would serve as a resource and sounding board for the project. Proposals should outline an individual’s own significant research or teaching project. Proposals may also be submitted by a research team, which would share the award amount if selected.

With over one-fourth of the world’s population, South Asia has emerged as an important region for media and journalism, politics, international relations, health communication, culture, media and other areas that enrich the repertoire of our field. The South Asia Initiative brings together people with interest and expertise in Afghanistan, Bangladesh, Bhutan, India, Maldives, Myanmar (Burma), Nepal, Pakistan and Sri Lanka and the South Asian diaspora worldwide. The AEJMC South Asia Initiative, which currently constitutes 520 members worldwide, was instituted at the AEJMC 2015 conference in San Francisco.

In our commitment to the “Global Bridges” theme of the 2015 Association for Education in Journalism and Mass Communication (AEJMC) conference in San Francisco, a group of long-standing AEJMC members are convening the South Asia Initiative to bring together AEJMC members with interest and expertise in South Asia and the South Asian diaspora worldwide.

The AEJMC South Asia Initiative will foster cross-disciplinary conversations and collaborative relationships.

We invite you to the inaugural meeting:
