The Office of International Programs (OIP) serves as a center of leadership for the international role and mission of the university. It is comprised of six related units that function together toward creating an international perspective in all facets of campus life. Those units include: OIP Administration (OIPA), Office of Education Abroad (OEA), International Student and Scholar Office (ISSO), English Language Training Institute (ELTI), Office of Intercultural and Educational Experiences (OIEE), and the Office of Global Education and Engagement (OGEE). OIP also hosts the World Affairs Council of Charlotte (WACC).

The assistant director for the Office of International Programs supports the associate provost for International Programs by collaborating directly with six operational units and assisting with the overall administration of OIP’s ongoing operations, such as communications, marketing and public relations, risk management, and facilities management. Two key responsibilities include developing and overseeing departmental assessment practices and managing OIP’s annual reporting activities, which encompass the annual strategic plan report and the report on international exchange partnership activities.

The Centre for International Studies at SciencesPo, Paris, seeks a candidate working on the political and ecological issues of the oceans, seas and coasts, in an innovative way. The environmental issues specific to these areas are at the heart of many situations of violence and conflict, linked to the predation of resources and their entry into trade circuits, which raises both economic and political issues. Possible research topics include, but are not limited to, practices conceptualised as ‘blue grabbing’ to indicate the dispossession of local communities of resources linked to the sea, the struggles and conflicts between protection,
conservation, exploitation and grabbing of maritime and coastal spaces, the politicisation and judicialisation of pollution and contamination issues, as well as the claims and practices of ‘blue justice’, involving a variety of actors: local communities, multinationals, NGOs, national and international public actors and institutions, as well as groups involved in piracy practices.

In methodological terms, the research programme is expected to be based on an expertise in one or more fields (particularly in the global South) as a starting point for comparative reflection. In terms of discipline, the profile is open-ended: in addition to the sub-disciplines of political science (particularly comparative politics and international relations), other social science disciplines inclined to dialogue with political science are welcome, such as anthropology, geography, sociology and history. An interest in interdisciplinary openness towards maritime environmental science disciplines will be considered an asset.

Oxfam: Advisor in Intercultural Dialogue with Bolivian Indigenous Peoples (Bolivia)

This is a 1-2 month mandate, based mainly in Machareti, Chuquisaca (in the Bolivian Chaco), Bolivia, with travel to the Bolivian Amazon. The mandate stems from the Equality in Action Voluntary Cooperation Program (PCV), which is being rolled out in 12 countries and 3 regions over an eight-year period (2020-2028). The PCV aims to increase the involvement of local partner organizations in countries of intervention in inclusive, innovative and sustainable initiatives that will advance gender equality. Oxfam’s role is to support these organizations, working with the most vulnerable and marginalized people, to claim and exercise their rights. Oxfam puts the rights of women, girls and vulnerable and marginalized people at the heart of everything they do.

Here’s what your daily life will look like:

This is a full-time, on-campus position. The person selected will provide assistance and support in the Office of Global and Intercultural Engagement for tasks related to study abroad, international student services and retention, and campus-wide internationalization efforts. This person will also serve as the primary advisor and support contact to assist international students with their cultural adjustment and integration into campus and the Lexington, KY area. In support of that goal, the person in this role will organize and carry out new international student orientation, including pre-arrival communication, airport pickups, and select orientation sessions, including both online and in-person events. Responsibilities also include developing social, academic and career development infrastructures that promote international student success, including meaningful connections with faculty, staff, students, and local communities.

U Birmingham: Assistant Professor in Digital Media & Intercultural Communication (UK)

This position is in the Department of Linguistics and Communication, which is in the School of English, Drama and Creative Studies. As part of strategic growth and investment in Digital Media and Communications, the School seeks to recruit an Assistant Professor with effect from 1st April 2025 to be based on the University’s Edgbaston campus. The post holder will demonstrate particular expertise in intercultural communication, and be able to evidence experience of teaching and researching in this area.

The post holder will contribute high quality teaching to a suite of successful programmes which includes the BA in Digital Media and Communications launched on the University’s Edgbaston campus in September 2023, the MA in Digital Media and Creative Industries launched on the Edgbaston campus in September 2024, and the MA in Digital Media and Communications to be launched on the Edgbaston campus in September 2025. The post holder will also play an active role in the development of the Digital Media and Communications provision on the University’s Dubai campus, including optional travel opportunities to that campus.

Research excellence will include initiating, conducting and disseminating original research. The post holder’s research will have measurable outcomes reflected in growing national (and ideally international) reputation. In addition to delivering excellence in teaching and research, successful candidates will be expected to demonstrate academic citizenship, developing and maintaining generous, mutually respectful and supportive working relationships with all colleagues and students.
