The Conflict Conference 2016 (Texas)

Call for submissions: The Conflict Conference 2016

The Conflict Conference (TCC) will hold its 2015 conference at the University of Texas at Austin (UT-Austin) on April 8-9, 2016. TCC is a multidisciplinary annual conference promoting the study of conflict and conflict resolution. We invite Papers, Panel Proposals, and Posters on any relevant topic such as apologies, advocacy, dispute resolution, peace, negotiation, reconciliation, mediation, restorative justice, conflict management, and ethics.

The DEADLINE for submissions is January 24th 2016. Notices of acceptance will be sent no later than February 7th, 2016.

・PAPER PROPOSALS must include the author’s name and institutional affiliation, the title of the paper, and an abstract of no more than 150 words for the program. In addition, proposals must include a 600-word extended abstract without personal information. Abstracts should be based on research that is clearly in progress (if not yet completed), with a well-formulated research question, and with a good description of the types of data used (if the work is empirical) and of the approach.

・PANEL PROPOSALS must include a maximum 150-word abstract for the program, names, titles, and abstracts for each participant.

・POSTERS must include the author’s name and institutional affiliation, the title of the paper, and an abstract of no more than 150 words.

A clear description of a research design may be acceptable, as this can lead to useful discussions in the early stages of a project. Documents must be attached to an email as a Word (.doc or .docx) or PDF document.

Mediation Theory and Practice is the journal of the College of Mediators. It is an international forum for original, peer-reviewed research about mediation, as well as practice and events reports, policy discussions and innovations in mediation training and education. The journal’s approach is multidisciplinary and it is a resource for academics, practitioners, trainers, and policy makers. Mediation is understood in its broadest context, with the journal publishing the latest research and practice focused on understanding the causes of and solutions to interpersonal, intergroup and international human conflict. It welcomes work on all forms of mediation, from family, community and medical mediation to civil, intergenerational, commercial and peer mediation, as well as on related approaches to alternative dispute resolution.

Mediation Theory and Practice welcomes empirical, theoretical and practice-based articles which display originality in terms of their theoretical developments, use of empirical materials, transfer and exchange of knowledge between academic, practitioner and policy audiences. Other pieces will include policy articles, ‘rapid response’ discussions, special themed issues, conference and event reports, brief translations of key articles originally published in languages other than English, discussions of innovative strategies for mediation training, profiles of key figures in the field, and reviews of recent books on mediation and related topics. Overall, articles address the implications of theory and research for informing practice and vice versa.

The editors welcome the submission of the following types of material for publication in the journal: Research Articles (typically reporting the results of empirical research or theoretical pieces), Practice Articles (typically reporting both training teaching practice, contextualized in current debates, and including reflections on research but focused particularly towards concrete guidance for practice; these can include case studies), Policy Articles (as previously but with a particular focus on local, regional, national or international mediation policy), Rapid Responses (typically responding to live debates in mediation research, practice or policy with the aim of fast-tracked publication), Conference and Event Reports, Book Reviews, Review Essays, and Prize Articles (articles that have been awarded MTP prizes). Submitted articles are subject to a blind, peer review process. Please adhere to the guidelines (see ‘For Authors Page’ above) when preparing submissions for the journal.

The Department of Communication & Journalism at the University of New Mexico invites applications for a full time, 9-month appointment at the rank of Lecturer III to begin August 1, 2015. The department seeks to hire a lecturer with knowledge and experience teaching interpersonal communication, conflict management, and mediation. The successful candidate will coordinate the teaching assistants and part-time instructors who teach sections of CJ 221 (Interpersonal Communication) and CJ 320 (Mediation). In addition, this lecturer will teach other courses at the undergraduate level that meet teaching needs in the department’s concentrations (interpersonal, organizational, intercultural, environmental, media studies, and public communication). Graduate teaching is a possibility, depending on the lecturer’s areas of specialty and department need.

This is a renewable teaching appointment based on the lecturer’s performance. The position involves 70% teaching and 30% service, and the teaching load involves 7 courses each year.

Minimum Qualifications: Ph.D. in Communication or related field completed by August 1, 2015, and three years post-secondary teaching experience.

Preferred Qualifications: (a) A strong record of effective teaching across the communication curriculum; (b) Experience teaching interpersonal communication, communication and conflict, and mediation; (c) Experience directing/coordinating teaching assistants and/or part-time instructors; (d) Experience/interest in developing and teaching courses in on-line or condensed formats; (e) A demonstrated commitment to diversity, equity, inclusion, student success, and working with broadly diverse communities, as well as a desire to mentor students from diverse backgrounds; and (f) Evidence of participation in professional and/or communication associations.

communication +1 invites submissions for its inaugural issue, entitled Futures of Communication

We seek works that will pronounce or propose futures for the study of communication by pushing beyond the borders of established research programs.  To that end, this issue intends to feature writings that promise to raise new questions about communication as well as suggest lines of inquiry rethematizing communication as constitutive of our social being in all its articulations.

Our hope is to encourage interdisciplinary perspectives that foreground mediation as the primary area of analysis. Exploratory studies or reflections on emergent theories and practices regarding mediation are particularly welcome.

Please submit a proposal of 500 words or less by March 2nd, 2012 to [communicationplusone at gmail.com]. Final drafts will be due June 15th, 2012, with an expected publication in August.

Although there is no set word limit, suggested length for the final submission is between 4500 and 7000 words.

The University of Arts in Belgrade, Serbia, in cooperation with the University Lyon 2, France is organizing a joint MA programme in Cultural Policy and Management (Interculturalism and Mediation in the Balkans). This MA programme, taught in English and French, has gained an international reputation. Accredited by the University Lyon 2 and supported by other partner universities, professional organizations and guest experts from all over Europe, it attracts not only students from the Balkan region but also those coming from Europe and worldwide, who seek a new, stimulating and different study environment.

This programme enables students to be part of a creative capital and multicultural landscape of the Balkans. For its excellence in the promotion of intercultural cooperation and mediating capacities of culture, the MA in Cultural Policy and Management has been named UNESCO Chair in 2004.
