Summer 2022 Study Abroad: Intercultural Perspectives on Teaching and Learning, New York University in London, UK, July 4 – 18, 2022. Deadline: March 23, 2022 (or until all places filled).

Examine intercultural perspectives on teaching and learning across national borders. Explore the role that class, race, gender, economics, politics, religion, and cultural heritage play in the evolving dynamics in language policy, bilingual and world language education, and international education.

Participants in the Summer 2022 program in London will critically reflect upon the challenges and opportunities facing educators, school administrators, policy-makers, community organizers, students, etc., in language education, intercultural relations, and international education in the United Kingdom. Our studies will consider the impact of large-scale events across the UK and around the world, such as the anti-globalization forces behind Brexit, the COVID-19 pandemic on education and intergroup relations, the evolving Sino-British relationship over the political transformation in Hong Kong, cross-border infusion and adaptation of immigrants or refugees.

Through seminars and guided site visits, we will share insights with scholars, teachers, policy-makers, writers, administrators, and immigrant community organizers in language, as well as international and intercultural education. Museum visits, theatrical performances, and day trips to important cultural sites are being planned to enrich our experience in intercultural learning positions.

NOTE: This course will be taught by Professor Casey Lum, Associate Director of the Center for Intercultural Dialogue.

The Vice Dean for Diversity, Equity, and Belonging (Associate/Full Professor, tenure or non-tenure track) will provide institutional leadership for and oversight of strategic initiatives to support and grow a culture committed to promoting equity, community partnerships, and a social justice agenda throughout NYU Steinhardt and beyond it. This position will serve as the primary point of contact on issues of equity and belonging within the School, working with appropriate stakeholders from students, faculty, administrators, and staff.  The ideal candidate will have a strong history of academic leadership and scholarly productivity in research or creative work related to equity, belonging, and social justice, with a demonstrated capacity to work collaboratively with a variety of constituent groups, both inside and outside the University. This is a half-time administrative appointment for a Steinhardt faculty member who will conduct research, teach, and advise students in their home department. Applications are invited for the teaching and research post of Lecturer in Intercultural Communication, which is tenable from 1 September 2022 and offered on an open-ended basis. The appointed person will teach on the MA program in Intercultural Communication. The candidate must have a PhD (awarded) in a relevant field and demonstrable teaching experience in Intercultural Communication at university level as well as in curriculum and program development. Your research may focus on any aspect of Intercultural Communication. Only applicants with high quality publications will be considered. A successful record of grant capture and of PhD supervision would be highly advantageous. Experience with virtual learning environments and in developing online teaching materials is essential. Expertise in translation studies and/or foreign language proficiency would be beneficial. You must have excellent interpersonal skills and be able to empathize with students.

The Center for Social and Cultural Psychology of ULB is seeking to hire a 2-year Post-Doctoral Research Associate to conduct research within the RESONET project, starting on March 1st, 2022. The RESONET project is a collaborative research project funded by the European network WEAVE « Research Funding Without Borders » (FNS, FNRS, FWO). It is led by: Prof. Karen Phalet (KU Leuven) and Dr. Emanunele Politi (KU Leuven), Prof. Eva G.T. Green (Université de Lausanne), as well as Prof. Laurent Licata and Prof. Antoine Roblain (Université Libre de Bruxelles). The postdoc researcher is expected to contribute to the RESONET Project under the supervision of Laurent Licata and Antoine Roblain. She/he will have no teaching obligations. He/she will be expected to contribute to collective work on the project, and to present and publish individual or collective research outputs.

Utrecht University is looking to fill the Professorship of Intercultural Communication (ICC). The Chair is positioned in the Department of Languages, Literature and Communication of the Faculty of Humanities. The department focuses on the study of Western European languages and cultures in a global context. The research domain of the Chair lies within the broad field of multilingualism, focusing on the linguistic interaction between speakers from different linguistic and cultural backgrounds in diverse and inclusive societies. The Chair plays a leading role in the department’s research in ICC, which intertwines the fields of linguistics (Utrecht Institute of Linguistics) and cultural and literary studies (Institute for Cultural Enquiry). The Chair is responsible for the one-year ICC Master’s program, which attracts around 50 students a year.
