FMSH: Franco Nordic Program Grants (France, Norway)

This program, led by the University Centre of Norway in Paris (CUNP) and the FMSH, aims to promote research collaboration in the field of human and social sciences and support the development of new scientific cooperation projects between French and Nordic researchers (Norwegian, Swedish, Danish, Finnish, and Icelandic). The call is open to researchers of all disciplines in the human and social sciences, starting at the doctoral level, for trilateral projects with a duration of 3 years (2026-28).

  • The project team must involve at least 3 researchers from 3 higher education institutions: 1 from Norway, who will be the project coordinator, 1 from France, and 1 from another Nordic country (Denmark, Finland, Iceland, Sweden).
  • Only the norwegian coordinator has to have a permanent position and be attached to one of the following universities which will host the project during its entire duration: University of Oslo (UiO), University of Bergen (UiB), Norwegian University of Science and Technology (NTNU), Norwegian Arctic University (UiT).
  • The other members of the team can be PhD students, post-doctoral fellows or researchers, either statutory or associated with a higher education institution in France or in another Nordic country.
  • The activities presented must take place in the countries of the project teams.
  • If necessary, it is possible to integrate a 4th partner from outside the Nordic countries: in this case, the relevance of its participation must be detailed in the project and the latter must provide co-financing.

SciencesPo: Political Science (France)

The Centre for International Studies at SciencesPo, Paris, seeks a candidate working on the political and ecological issues of the oceans, seas and coasts, in an innovative way. The environmental issues specific to these areas are at the heart of many situations of violence and conflict, linked to the predation of resources and their entry into trade circuits, which raises both economic and political issues. Possible research topics include, but are not limited to, practices conceptualised as ‘blue grabbing’ to indicate the dispossession of local communities of resources linked to the sea, the struggles and conflicts between protection,
conservation, exploitation and grabbing of maritime and coastal spaces, the politicisation and judicialisation of pollution and contamination issues, as well as the claims and practices of ‘blue justice’, involving a variety of actors: local communities, multinationals, NGOs, national and international public actors and institutions, as well as groups involved in piracy practices.

In methodological terms, the research programme is expected to be based on an expertise in one or more fields (particularly in the global South) as a starting point for comparative reflection. In terms of discipline, the profile is open-ended: in addition to the sub-disciplines of political science (particularly comparative politics and international relations), other social science disciplines inclined to dialogue with political science are welcome, such as anthropology, geography, sociology and history. An interest in interdisciplinary openness towards maritime environmental science disciplines will be considered an asset.

IMéRA Fellowships 2025-6 (France)

IMéRA Core Fellowships 2025-6, IMéRA Institute for Advanced Study at Aix-Marseille University, France. Deadline: 21 October 2024.

In collaboration with its partners, Imera is offering 9 residency positions for periods of 5 or 10 months, dedicated to scientists and/or artists. These positions are distributed across four programs developed within Iméra: “Arts &Sciences: Undisciplined Knowledge,” “Interdisciplinary Explorations,” “Mediterranean,” and”Necessary Utopias.”

Prerequisites common to all available fellowships and that must be taken into account before the eligibility criteria specific to each fellowship include:

  • An active knowledge of French and/or English (written and spoken) is essential. Linguistic skills in both languages are desirable due to the bilingual context of Iméra.

  • Candidates commit to participating in the scheduled activities with other residents and the Iméra scientific team. The Community Building Seminar (CBS) is one of the central activities, held each week (all day Thursday). The time investment amounts to one day per week in total.

  • In the interest of research internationalization, just as the local scientific and cultural community should benefit from the methodological traditions brought by the residents, the latter should also benefit from the numerous expertise present on site, where most disciplines are represented. For these reasons, candidates must be based abroad and submit a project that maximizes the resources available on-site (around a hundred laboratories, various archives, a vibrant cultural and associative life, etc.). It is highly recommended to identify key local resources related to the research theme beforehand, mention them in the project, and outline the envisioned modes of collaboration.

American U of Paris: International Relations (France)

The American University of Paris invites applications for a full-time position in the Department of History and Politics at the rank of Assistant Professor in International Relations, beginning 1 August 2025.

A PhD in Political Science/International Relations is required by the date of appointment. Applicants should combine a dynamic research agenda with a commitment to teaching in a liberal arts institution. The appointment includes teaching introductory and advanced courses such as Challenges of Global Politics, World Politics, War and Peace and Advanced IR Theory. The successful candidate will also develop courses that align with her/his/their scholarly interests and have the opportunity to collaborate with AUP’s interdepartmental research centers.

UNESCO: Programme Specialist Education (France)

Under the overall authority of the Assistant Director-General for Education (ADG/ED), the guidance from the Director of the Division for Peace and Sustainable Development and the direct supervision from the Chief of Section of Global Citizenship and Peace Education, the incumbent will serve as Programme Specialist for UNESCO’s activities on global citizenship, peace and human rights education. Further, s/he will ensure the development and delivery of a wide spectrum of activities and projects in line with the established priorities of the Section. S/he will coordinate UNESCO’s follow-up efforts to the adoption of the Recommendation on Education for Peace, Human Rights and Sustainable Development (2023), oversee the reporting process on the Recommendation and related monitoring activities, and advise and support countries in their implementation efforts, notably as concerns educational planning. This can include designing and coordinating research and developing policy guidance documents and briefs with a variety of internal and external partners, individual experts and institutions. S/he will mobilize resources to support the Section’s work plan through the preparation of project proposals (draft and budget), cooperation frameworks, and negotiation with funding entities. S/He will develop and sustain productive partnerships that expand the visibility and reach of UNESCO’s work in this area.

Collegium de Lyon Fellowships 2025-26 (France)

Collegium de Lyon Fulbright fellowships, Lyon, France. Deadline: 16 September 2024.

Through a new partnership between the Franco-American Fulbright Commission and the Collegium de Lyon, applicants to one of the three national Fulbright scholarship programs (All Disciplines, French Studies, Fulbright-Tocqueville) who wish to be hosted in a research unit in Lyon or Saint-Etienne are now eligible for a Collegium fellowship. This includes all-inclusive housing in the Collegium residence on the ENS de Lyon campus, assistance with administrative formalities, and integration into the 2025-2026 interdisciplinary cohort of international fellows.

Scholars interested in the Collegium fellowship program are asked to include a letter of support from the director of the targeted research unit at the University of Lyon with their Fulbright application.

Interventions for this project will be guided by the data for Sri Lanka from UNESCO’s Framework for Enabling Intercultural Dialogue which shows that whilst many of the preconditions for intercultural dialogue to thrive towards peacebuilding objectives are strong in the country, comparing favourably to the world average – including horizontal equality, freedom of expression, and governance and citizenship – challenges remain in critical areas, including as relates to inclusion and representation, social cohesion, and to a lesser extent leadership and organization.

The focus of the Social and Human Sciences Sector (SHS) at UNESCO is to foster inclusive societies and economies, and to ensure the ethical development of emerging technologies, including of Artificial Intelligence (AI). In November 2021, UNESCO’s Member States adopted the Recommendation on the Ethics of AI, a global standard aimed at leveraging the positive impact of AI while addressing its inherent risks. Getting AI governance right is one of the most consequential challenges of our time, and countries around the world are now in the process of implementing the Recommendation, with UNESCO supporting them through various capacity-building efforts. In addition, SHS strives to accomplish its fundamental humanist mission that calls for enhancing the efforts against racism and discrimination, deploying the power of sports for social inclusion, promoting intercultural dialogue and supporting youth empowerment and gender equality. SHS collaborates with Member States to advance UNESCO’s 2017 Recommendation on Science and Scientific Researchers, focusing on the protection of scientists and enhancing the science-policy nexus via the Management of Social Transformation (MOST) programme.

Under the overall authority of the Assistant Director-General for Social and Human Sciences Sector (ADG/SHS), strategic guidance from the Director for Research, Ethics and Inclusion and direct supervision of the Chief of Inclusion, Rights, and Intercultural Dialogue Section, the Programme Specialist is responsible for analyzing, implementing and monitoring projects and activities within the inclusion, rights and intercultural dialogue Section, leading work to promote dialogue for social cohesion, resilience, accountability, civic empowerment and conflict transformation; and contributing to work to enhance social and gender inclusion through the empowerment of vulnerable and marginalised communities and the fight against racism and discrimination.

The incumbent, working within the frameworks of UNESCO’s Medium Term Strategy (C/4), the approved Programme and Budget (C/5) and global development plans such as the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development, will guide the technical development of sectional, cross-sectional and divisional projects and activities, financed by core and voluntary funding; provide recommendations on project feasibility and possible collaborations; engage with substantive developments in relevant technical fields; and manage relationships with key internal and external stakeholders to provide expert technical advice.

EU Network IN SITU: Administration Officer (France)

IN SITU is the European platform for artistic creation in public space. Lieux publics, the European and national centre for artistic creation in public space, acts as project lead of the European network IN SITU, bringing together about 20 European partners.

The administration officer will be fully involved in the management of the European project IN SITU, designed by Lieux publics in collaboration with the partners. He/she will be in charge of the administrative and financial management of the project, under the supervision of the International projects manager and the Administrator of Lieux publics. His/her missions will be mainly around the IN SITU activities and the current programme (UN)COMMON SPACES (4M€ over 4 years) but he/she also will be involved on other potential international projects under the supervision of the International project manager, including NAJM, a Mediterranean cooperation network.
