Coastal Carolina University invites applications for a Visiting Assistant Professor in Communication, or related fields, to begin in August 2025 with the possibility of renewal for up to two years. Candidates must have a Ph.D. in Communication, Journalism, Mass Communication, or a closely related discipline. ABD candidates with a clear plan for degree completion prior to May 31, 2026, may be considered. The teaching load is three courses per academic semester and may include face-to-face, hybrid, or distance learning deliveries. They are seeking excellent teacher-scholars who have the ability to teach the department’s foundation courses, including communication theory and communication research. U College Dublin: Ad Astra Fellow – Lecturer / Assistant Professor in International Law & Global Justice (Ireland)

The UCD Sutherland School of Law wishes to appoint an Ad Astra Fellow in International Law and Global Justice (ILGJ). The Fellow will have demonstrated expertise in public international law and diverse global justice theories. The post holder will contribute to team teaching across public international law subjects, as well as developing theoretically-informed courses in their field of expertise in ILGJ. The post holder’s own specialist subfield should complement and expand the School’s teaching and research in international law. The Fellow’s research agenda should align with advancing sustainability and equity through critical and interdisciplinary inquiry into contemporary global justice challenges. Expertise on international criminal justice, climate justice, border justice, racial justice or any other cognate field is welcome.

The Fellow’s role also involves developing academic community and convening. The Fellow will be supported to expand engagement across schools in UCD, as well as with key external stakeholders in ILGJ. The Fellow’s role will include supporting the development of UCD as a centre of excellence for International Law and Global Justice, with a convening and policy engagement role.

The Centre for International Studies at SciencesPo, Paris, seeks a candidate working on the political and ecological issues of the oceans, seas and coasts, in an innovative way. The environmental issues specific to these areas are at the heart of many situations of violence and conflict, linked to the predation of resources and their entry into trade circuits, which raises both economic and political issues. Possible research topics include, but are not limited to, practices conceptualised as ‘blue grabbing’ to indicate the dispossession of local communities of resources linked to the sea, the struggles and conflicts between protection,
conservation, exploitation and grabbing of maritime and coastal spaces, the politicisation and judicialisation of pollution and contamination issues, as well as the claims and practices of ‘blue justice’, involving a variety of actors: local communities, multinationals, NGOs, national and international public actors and institutions, as well as groups involved in piracy practices.

In methodological terms, the research programme is expected to be based on an expertise in one or more fields (particularly in the global South) as a starting point for comparative reflection. In terms of discipline, the profile is open-ended: in addition to the sub-disciplines of political science (particularly comparative politics and international relations), other social science disciplines inclined to dialogue with political science are welcome, such as anthropology, geography, sociology and history. An interest in interdisciplinary openness towards maritime environmental science disciplines will be considered an asset.

U Birmingham: Assistant Professor in Digital Media & Intercultural Communication (UK)

This position is in the Department of Linguistics and Communication, which is in the School of English, Drama and Creative Studies. As part of strategic growth and investment in Digital Media and Communications, the School seeks to recruit an Assistant Professor with effect from 1st April 2025 to be based on the University’s Edgbaston campus. The post holder will demonstrate particular expertise in intercultural communication, and be able to evidence experience of teaching and researching in this area.

The post holder will contribute high quality teaching to a suite of successful programmes which includes the BA in Digital Media and Communications launched on the University’s Edgbaston campus in September 2023, the MA in Digital Media and Creative Industries launched on the Edgbaston campus in September 2024, and the MA in Digital Media and Communications to be launched on the Edgbaston campus in September 2025. The post holder will also play an active role in the development of the Digital Media and Communications provision on the University’s Dubai campus, including optional travel opportunities to that campus.

Research excellence will include initiating, conducting and disseminating original research. The post holder’s research will have measurable outcomes reflected in growing national (and ideally international) reputation. In addition to delivering excellence in teaching and research, successful candidates will be expected to demonstrate academic citizenship, developing and maintaining generous, mutually respectful and supportive working relationships with all colleagues and students. Management and administration is likely to involve contributions at Departmental and School level, and/or making an important contribution to some managerial/leadership activities (e.g. working groups) within the University. UCL: Lecturers in Intercultural Education (UK)

The Department is looking to appoint two Lecturer (Teaching) in Intercultural Communication and Dissertation Supervisors at 0.15 FTE. The postholder will be supervising 10 MA dissertations in Intercultural Communications and related areas. This will include marking and providing feedback to students. In addition, the successful candidate will be supporting the running of the Dissertation module throughout the academic year and attending induction and standardisation meetings in the department.

The successful candidate must have a PhD in Intercultural Communication or closely relevant subject areas. The postholder will have experience of supervising students at MA programmes. You will have good understanding of the learning needs of a diverse body of students, particularly those who are multilingual users of English and/ or international students and/ or from widening participation backgrounds. In addition, you will have evidence of a good understanding of common approaches to research and research methodology, and have knowledge of the assessment criteria that are typically used at MA level in UK Higher Education
