The Department of International Relations & Regional Studies in the College of Social Sciences at KIMEP University,  invites applications for two faculty positions (Assistant/Associate/ Full Professor rank) in the International Relations area. KIMEP University offers its faculty members one-year contracts, renewable by mutual agreement.

Responsibilities include teaching, research, scholarly activities, advising, field liaison and service. The department offers undergraduate and graduate programs and teaches academic and theoretic courses in International Relations, the Politics of Central and East Asia, Diplomatic History, Methodology, etc. Expertise is desired in at least two of the following areas of International Relations: Chinese Domestic and Geo-Politics, Chinese Economic Policy, The Economy and Geo-Politics of East Asia, Central Asia, Political Economy and Security Studies. Familiarity with CIS countries or similar international experience is welcome. Applicants must have an earned doctorate in International Relations, Political Science, Regional Studies or another relevant field from an internationally-recognized, accredited university. Applicants should be able to teach in English.

 

King’s College London: International & Comparative Education (UK)

King’s College London is seeking to recruit a social science scholar with interests in the global dimensions of education to contribute to teaching and programme administration on an MA Education suite of programmes and other programmes as required. They will also undertake doctoral supervision and conduct high quality research. The successful candidate will have expertise in, or that can be applied to, international and comparative education, education and international development, education in a global context and/or intercultural education. Expertise relating to school leadership and management will be particularly welcome but is not essential.

The applicant should have an outstanding, thematically relevant, doctorate in intercultural communication in particular with regard to its social and cultural-scientific reference disciplines (e.g., sociology, political science, social or cultural geography). The candidate should have an outstanding international reputation in one of the following areas in intercultural communication: a) global mobility and migration, b) diversity and processes of integration and inclusion in societal diversification. The candidate should be willing to extend his/her/their research agenda towards the second area, as both areas are fundamental for the tenure track procedure.

This lecturership in Language and Intercultural Communication will be located in the International Centre for Intercultural Studies and the Centre for Applied Linguistics. The UCL Centre for Applied Linguistics is dedicated to research in Applied Linguistics. It has as its mission to promote IOE as a centre of international excellence in research and teaching in applied linguistics. The post holder will contribute to Masters, PhD programmes and other programmes in the Centres and to research knowledge exchange and consultancy activities in the Centres. You will play a significant role in planning and development of the International Centre for Intercultural Studies. The post holder will contribute to the advancement of scholarship in the fields of Intercultural Communication and Applied Linguistics, through publications and other research activities. You will take a part in academic policy and planning at programme, department, and institutional levels. You will teach specialist modules on the MA Intercultural Communication and MA Applied Linguistics in areas of language and intercultural communication, and language and identity.

You will have PhD in Intercultural Communication, Applied Linguistics, or closely relevant subject areas, and have a sound knowledge of key concepts, debates and challenges in Intercultural Communication and Applied Linguistics. You will also have experience of teaching at postgraduate levels and have good understanding of the learning needs of a diverse body of students.

The post is tenable from 1 September 2022, or as soon as possible thereafter, and offered on an open-ended basis. The appointed person will teach in the MA programme in Intercultural Communication. You must have a PhD (awarded) in a relevant field and demonstrable teaching experience in Intercultural Communication at university level as well as in curriculum/programme development.

You must be able to deliver courses that successfully cover or combine the study of several of the following:

  • Intercultural communication in the context of crisis communication, diplomacy, international development, international migration
  • Intercultural communication in international media production and consumption
  • Intercultural communication in business or institutional contexts
  • Intercultural communication in transnational popular culture

  • Postcolonial intercultural communication

Your research may focus on any aspect of Intercultural Communication. Only applicants with high quality publications will be considered. A successful record of grant capture and of PhD supervision would be highly advantageous. Experience with virtual learning environments and in developing online teaching materials is essential. Expertise in translation studies and/or foreign language proficiency would be beneficial. You must have excellent interpersonal skills and be able to empathise with students.

The successful applicant will be part of a diverse and collegiate team of academics, researchers and professional support staff delivering high quality teaching and research in the Applied Linguistics & Communication (ALC) subject area. You will have a strong background in Intercultural Communication and will have expertise in international workplaces, virtual exchange, migration and mobility, or minoritised communities.

You will carry out high quality research in the area of Intercultural Communication, contributing to the profile and research culture of the ALC subject area, the School of ECLS, and the relevant research centres and institutes across the University.

You will make a significant contribution to teaching, personal tutoring, and supervision within the ALC subject area, particularly on the suite of MA Cross-Cultural Communication programmes, and also at undergraduate level. Preferably, you will have experience of teaching Sociolinguistics and/or Research Methods at postgraduate level. You will, where appropriate, make a contribution to academic administration within the School.

The University of Otago is seeking to appoint an outstanding Lecturer / Senior Lecturer in Communication Studies to join Pāpāho, Whitiāhua, Pārokoroko/the Media, Film and Communication programme, in Te Wai Pounamu, the stunning South Island of Aotearoa New Zealand. The role is a full time, permanent (confirmation path) position. The successful candidate will contribute to critical cultural and communication research and teaching. This involves developing curriculum at the undergraduate level, supervising postgraduate students, and carrying out independent research.

As a programme they aim to bring Māori culture into an intersectional dialogue with broader issues of representation, race, ethnicity, gender, sexual orientation, and political agency through the study of Media, Film and Communication. As a result, they will welcome applications from outside New Zealand, and particularly welcome applications from Māori and Pacifika scholars with research interests in any area of Communication Studies.

 

King’s College London: Sociolinguistics (UK)

The School of Education, Communication and Society is advertising a 12-month fixed-term lectureship in Sociolinguistics on King’s Academic Education Pathway (AEP). The School is looking for an individual who can make an exceptional contribution to the Centre for Language, Discourse and Communication (LDC). LDC is a major UK centre for Sociolinguistics, Discourse Studies and Applied Linguistics. The centre offers BA, Masters and Doctoral programmes.

Candidates will hold a PhD in Linguistics, Sociolinguistics, Applied Linguistics, or a closely related area. They will be expected to contribute to UG and PGT teaching and supervision, primarily in the area of sociolinguistics. They will be contributing to the teaching on the MA Language and Cultural Diversity, including modules such as ‘Language and Power’ and ‘Linguistic Politeness’ as well as research methods. The role holder will have experience of teaching at PG and/or UG level in the area of Applied and Sociolinguistics, and they will have a passion for teaching and an interest in innovation in teaching and learning.

Dublin City U: Migration Studies (Ireland)

SALIS has a long tradition of teaching and research in Intercultural Studies and a strong international reputation in this field. They currently offer a BA in Social Science and Cultural Innovation and an MA in Refugee Integration, as well as modules at doctoral level. The existing Intercultural Studies team carries out research on aspects of multiculturalism, conflict resolution, global cultures and forced migration. They are home to a vibrant PhD community and also welcome post-doctoral fellows.

The appointee will report to the Head of School and actively contribute to the existing Intercultural and Migration Studies teaching, research and administrative activities of SALIS. The successful candidate will be able to prepare, deliver and assess a range of core subjects at undergraduate, postgraduate and PhD level in a manner consistent with DCU’s high academic standards and in a hybrid environment which involves both campus delivery and elements of remote delivery. Teaching extends to supporting innovation in curriculum development.

NOTE: There is a second position for an Assistant Professor in Translation Studies, also as part of the Faculty of Humanities and SALIS, having the same deadline. Knowledge of one or more of the languages taught in SALIS (Chinese, French, German, Japanese, Spanish), in addition to excellent English skills, is required.
