The successful candidate will contribute to intercultural communication research and teaching that advances HDSHC’s mission to produce scholarship and pedagogy that responds to pressing issues in the world today, and advances ASU’s mission and vision for a New American University.

We seek a scholar whose work will contribute to the school’s core focus area of intercultural communication and whose interests intersect with one or more of the school’s research initiatives in transformative communication, strategic communication, health communication, and civil/creative/critical communication. The search is open in terms of methodology, theory, and/or practical application.
The successful candidate will be expected to establish and maintain a research agenda publishable in top-tier academic journals; seek external funding; teach and assist in the recruitment of graduate and undergraduate students; contribute to curriculum development; and engage in professional, university, and community service as appropriate.

The HDSHC includes 22 core faculty members and offers BA, BS, MIP (masters in passing), and Ph.D. degrees in communication. Position Summary
The Department of Communication Studies at the University of Denver seeks to hire a tenure track Assistant Professor, who will start at the beginning of the 2016-2017 academic year (teaching a 5-course load spread across 3 quarters). We seek a teacher-scholar whose work builds upon the current strengths of the program: inclusive excellence, community engagement, critical thinking, mentoring and working closely with graduate students, and a commitment to advancing the public good through research, teaching, and service.

• A strong academic record of postgraduate study in the above mentioned research areas.
• Demonstrable interest in pursuing academic and policy-oriented research in line with the Institute’s research focus.
• Demonstrable ability to work to deadlines, manage the agreed workload, and prioritize duties according to the institute’s needs.
• Fluency with social media is an absolute requirement, as is the ability to manage this in a timely and appropriate way.

• Attend meetings and discussions with key people related to the research projects and activities.
• Assume responsibility for the administrative duties relating to the research activities undertaken, liaising as necessary with colleagues at the Institute and un UNU Headquarters.
• Plan, coordinate, and evaluate the effectiveness of research workshops and other activities.

• Contribute regularly to the research outputs of UNU-GCM as agreed with the Director.
• Conduct qualitative and quantitative analysis of research data.

Required qualifications and experience
• A PhD degree in the Humanities or Social Sciences, such as Law, Political Science, Anthropology, Cultural Studies, Sociology, Geography, Media and Communications, Economics, Human Rights, or a related discipline on a topic that directly addresses questions of culture and mobility in the contemporary world; preference will be for applicants with expertise in legal and/or political theory (questions of citizenship, refugees, asylum, borders, etc.) relating to mobility, migration and/or media.
• At least two (2) to three (3) years of progressively responsible relevant postgraduate work experience.
• Be familiar with interdisciplinary research methodologies and conceptual frameworks.
• Have a sound record of scholarly publication of the above mentioned research areas.
• Have experience of working in think tanks and writing policy reports.
• Have experience in conference organization and maintaining relations with external organizations working in the areas of mobility and culture will be an advantage.
• Some administrative experience is required, since the post includes responsibilities relating to the administration of the research projects.
• Good knowledge and hands-on experience in the use of MS Office applications (MS Word, Excel, PowerPoint, etc.).
