Two Tenure Track Positions
Contemporary Global Media – East Asia Emphasis

NYU Shanghai is seeking to fill two tenure-track positions in the field of Contemporary Global Media with a special emphasis on East Asia at the rank of Assistant Professor, beginning in the Fall Semester of 2016. We are seeking scholars who can contribute broadly to the curriculum in media studies and interactive media arts. Scholars with focuses in one or more of the following are of particular interest: East Asian media institutions, alternative media practices such as critical making, and contemporary forms of public culture within the region. NYU Shanghai is also looking for a commitment to research and teaching in a cross-cultural context and curriculum, and the building of new research collections. An interest in, and experience with, interdisciplinary and collaborative research is desirable, while knowledge of urban China is especially welcome. NYU Shanghai is developing an active interdisciplinary group working with other NYU faculty in New York, Abu Dhabi, and other NYU Global Studies sites. The faculty member occupying this position will play a key role in the growth of that work group. Preferred candidates will have an active research agenda and a demonstrated interest in interdisciplinary scholarship, as well as expertise in project-based pedagogy. Qualified candidates should have a Ph.D.

The terms of employment in NYU Shanghai are comparable to U.S. institutions in terms of research start-up funds and compensation, and include housing subsidies and educational subsidies for children. Faculty may also spend time at NYU New York and other sites of the NYU global network, engaging in both research and teaching.

Position Summary

Responsibilities
Under the guidance and direct supervision of the Director of UNU-GCM, the successful candidate shall be closely involved in the planning and implementation of research programmes in the relevant thematic areas of UNU-GCM. This will include the following tasks:
• Attend meetings and discussions with key people related to the research projects and activities.
• Assume responsibility for the administrative duties relating to the research activities undertaken, liaising as necessary with colleagues at the Institute and un UNU Headquarters.
• Plan, coordinate, and evaluate the effectiveness of research workshops and other activities.
• Identify, compile, and undertake review of published and unpublished documents.
• Contribute regularly to the research outputs of UNU-GCM as agreed with the Director.
• Conduct qualitative and quantitative analysis of research data.
• Prepare drafts and final reports of related research projects for publication.
• Disseminate research publications locally and internationally in a variety of formats to be agreed with the Director.
• Collaborate on project planning and project administration.

• A PhD degree in the Humanities or Social Sciences, such as Law, Political Science, Anthropology, Cultural Studies, Sociology, Geography, Media and Communications, Economics, Human Rights, or a related discipline on a topic that directly addresses questions of culture and mobility in the contemporary world; preference will be for applicants with expertise in legal and/or political theory (questions of citizenship, refugees, asylum, borders, etc.) relating to mobility, migration and/or media.
• At least two (2) to three (3) years of progressively responsible relevant postgraduate work experience.
• Be familiar with interdisciplinary research methodologies and conceptual frameworks.
• Have a sound record of scholarly publication of the above mentioned research areas.
• Have experience of working in think tanks and writing policy reports.
• Have experience in conference organization and maintaining relations with external organizations working in the areas of mobility and culture will be an advantage.
• Some administrative experience is required, since the post includes responsibilities relating to the administration of the research projects.

Asst. Professor of Intercultural and Interracial Communication

The Department of Communication, Media, and Theatre Arts at Eastern Michigan University is seeking candidates for a tenure-track assistant professor specializing in intercultural and interracial communication.

The successful candidate will bring strong teaching and scholarly expertise in intercultural and interracial communication, and join a faculty committed to social justice through the scholarship and pedagogy of effective communication in a variety of social, personal, and professional settings.  In addition to teaching undergraduate intercultural and interracial communication courses, the appointment may also include teaching and developing undergraduate and graduate courses related to the candidate’s qualifications.

The successful candidate will also be expected to engage in relevant scholarly work as well as department, university, and other professional service.  Review of applications will begin December 1, 2015 and continue until the position is filled.
