The Department of Social Anthropology and Cultural Studies of University of Bern announces a professorship (100%, open rank) for Social Anthropology, starting 1. August 2027. The successful candidate will represent the discipline of social anthropology in its entirety with a special focus on the anthropology of migration.

The position is advertised as open rank (tenure-track Assistant Professorship, Associate Professorship, or Full Professorship). Appointment level will be decided by the appointment committee on the basis of candidates’ prior experience and qualifications.

The post holder’s expertise will complement and broaden the existing research areas within Social Anthropology in Bern. They will contribute to teaching on the Bachelor’s degree in Social Anthropology and the Master’s degrees in MASA (Master in Social Anthropology), ATS (Anthropology of Transnationalism and the State) and CREOLE (Cultural Differences and Transnational Processes). The languages of instruction are German and English.

The post holder will also participate in the coordination of departmental activities as co-director of the Department of Social Anthropology and Cultural Studies. The primary language of administration is German. Candidates should therefore possess the corresponding German-language skills or be prepared to acquire them within two years of appointment. The post holder will supervise junior scholars in their research area and will actively seek external funding to support their research.

The Geneva Graduate Institute is recruiting a Full Professor of International History and Politics (IHP). The applicants’ PhD and research have to be clearly historical in nature. The applicants must have an outstanding research and teaching track record and have made a significant contribution to their scholarly fields. A public intellectual profile is a plus but not a must.

They are looking for applicants with a broad vision and wide research interests whose work focuses on several of the following fields:

• the history of postcolonial state-building processes; and/or
• the history of transnational/global political violence; and/or
• the history of democratic and/or of authoritarian regimes; and/or
• the history of discrimination, especially racism, in comparative perspective.

Regarding all four fields:

• they will consider all regional specialisations;
• they will only consider applicants who focus on the modern and/or contemporary period.

EventsThe Performance of Translation: Journeys in Afro-Diasporic Women’s Modernisms by Rose (Rosie) Poku, University of Pennsylvania, Philadelphia, PA, 27 January 2026.

Rose (Rosie) Poku (she/her) is a joint PhD candidate in Africana Studies and Comparative Literature & Literary Theory at the University of Pennsylvania. She is pursuing two certificates in GSWS (Gender, Sexuality, and Women’s Studies) and CETLI (Center for Excellence in Teaching, Learning, and Innovation) as well. Rosie earned her Bachelors of Arts from Smith College in 2022, where she graduated summa cum laude as a Mellon Mays Undergraduate Fellow. Her research interests broadly lie in Black women’s diasporic and transnational feminist writings and performances of the early twentieth century. Rosie engages with Afro-diasporic texts written in Spanish, English, French, and Portuguese. Her work has been generously supported by organizations such as the Fontaine Fellowship, the Social Science Research Council, the Haskins Grant, and Penn’s Global Dissertation Grant. Rosie has a passion for teaching and pedagogy, and she is a recipient of the 2025 Penn Prize for Excellence in Teaching by Graduate Students.

CFP ICA Virtual Preconference: Media and Communication in Global Latinidades (2026)

Call for extended abstracts: Media and Communication in Global Latinidades, International Communication Association VIRTUAL Preconference, 3 June 2026. Deadline: 15 February 2026.

This preconference examines the production, distribution, and consumption of media and communication in global Latinidades. It follows up to the six preconferences held in the context of the 2019, 2020, 2021, 2022, 2023, 2024 and 2025 Annual Meetings of the International Communication Association – on “Digital Journalism in Latin America” in 2019, on “Digital Media in Latin America” in 2020, on “Digital Media in Latinx and Latin America” in 2021, and on “Media & Communication in Global Latinidades” in 2022-2025.

This 8th edition will continue to center on media and communication practices of the Latinx and Latin American experience globally. Despite its long history, research about Latinx and Latin American topics — largely made by Latinx and Latin American researchers worldwide — tends to be underrepresented in communication scholarship in general, and in ICA in particular. As such, the preconference will address the theme of media and communication in local, global and/or transnational Latinx and Latin American experiences, such as those related to issues of access, practices, representations, markets, technologies, and more.

UNHCR: UNIV’R Programme Studentships at Sciences Po (France)

The call for applications for the 5th cohort of the UNIV’R Programme (Sciences Po Paris) is now open . The programme offers fully funded scholarships for refugees to pursue a two-year master’s degree (in English or French) at Sciences Po Paris, beginning August/September 2026.

The eligibility criteria for this cohort remain unchanged from last year. Applicants must:

  • Be refugees individually recognized by UNHCR or by a State authority;
  • Be currently residing in a first country of asylum outside the European Union (resettled refugees are not eligible);
  • Hold at least a Bachelor’s degree in a relevant field of study;
  • Have a minimum B2 level in English and/or French;
  • Be no older than 35 years.

    In addition, Sciences Po Paris has specific academic requirements. Candidates must provide:

  • Academic transcripts;
  • Academic recommendation letters;
  • Evidence of a good GPA.

They are looking for a motivated lecturer and researcher (m/f/x) to be part of the Linguistics Research Unit and the Faculty of Arts at KU Leuven Brussels. The Linguistics Research Unit, which counts 50 senior and 100 junior researchers, is renowned for its internationally oriented synchronic and diachronic linguistic research across a wide range of languages, using both quantitative and qualitative methods. Members of the research unit at the Brussels campus teach in the Bachelor of Applied Linguistics, the Master in Journalism, and the Master of Multilingual Communication: Cross-Cultural Communication Management.
