U Glasgow: Curator of Unfinished Conversations (UK)

You will deliver The Hunterian’s three-year programme, ‘Power in this Place: Unfinished Conversations’ funded by the Esmée Fairbairn Foundation. Building on the transformational ‘Curating Discomfort’ project, the Curator of Unfinished Conversations will work across collections and organisation to embed anti-racist, participatory approaches in The Hunterian and the wider university communities with which the museum and gallery work.

The post will seek to restore social capital appropriated through two centuries of collecting to communities, locally and internationally and will ensure that The Hunterian’s own processes undergo fundamental and permanent re-alignment around race and equality issues. Impacts will be delivered beyond The Hunterian, facilitating new critical strategic dialogues at senior levels across the University of Glasgow and in Scotland’s cultural sector and beyond.

U Edinburgh: IASH Fellowships on Decoloniality (UK)

IASH is pleased to announce a new three-year project examining a variety of topics centred on decoloniality. The Institute Project on Decoloniality 2021-2024 (IPD ‘24) is now open for applications. The Institute and its partners warmly encourages Fellowship applications from scholars around the world, exploring issues including but not limited to: decolonising gender and sexuality, anticolonial and decolonial theory, race and racialisation, and Scotland’s role in the British Empire. As well as in-person Fellowships, the IASH is happy to accept applications for hybrid / remote-working Fellowships for applicants who are unable to travel to Edinburgh. It is important to note that they still welcome applications on all topics and in all areas of the arts, humanities and social sciences to continue IASH’s traditional interdisciplinary work across disciplines, alongside IPD’24.

The School of Social and Political Sciences seeks to appoint a Lecturer in Sociology (Media and Communications). We especially welcome applications from candidates with expertise in the practice of journalism and/or digital media. The Lecturer will develop, lead and sustain research and scholarship of international standard, engaging with the media and communication and other research areas in Sociology and related School research themes such as inclusive economy, democracy, migration and social movements, equality, human rights and governance. You will contribute to an excellent student experience by delivering, organising and reviewing agreed teaching, assessment and administration processes to enhance learning and teaching in the School of Social and Political Sciences. Language Education is an innovative and dynamic emerging field in Moray House School of Education and Sport. They are looking to recruit a Lecturer with particular interest in promoting Language Education throughout the School in order to enhance a substantial team of transdisciplinary researchers and teachers, and to embed Language Education across a range of diverse programmes.

The Language Education Strategy sets out a vision for bringing together three key areas: languages(s); (pluri) literacies; and interculturality. Each of those areas embraces a wide portfolio of research that is informed by a critical framework, including pluriliteracies, first and second language learning and teaching (heritage, English, community, European and other languages); bi/multilingualism, English as an additional language; Content and Language Integrated Learning; Global Englishes, language policy and practice; student and teacher identity; Language Teacher Education; discourse; intercultural communication; TESOL; Applied Linguistics; technology enhanced learning; and internationalisation. The successful applicant will have academic experience at post-doctoral level in one or more of the above areas and will be expected to contribute to our highly successful Masters level teaching programmes, to the supervision of doctoral students, and to secure research grants through our Language Education Thematic Research Hub aligned with REF high quality research outputs.

The post will require a culturally sensitive vision that reflects a commitment to social justice and the provision of high quality student experience. The successful candidate will contribute to the wider work of the subject area and the School, regionally, nationally and internationally.

The School of Philosophy, Psychology and Language Sciences is seeking to appoint a Research Associate for a fixed period for 2 years (with a possibility of further extension in line with the research project).  The Research Associate will contribute to a programme of research on language production/dialogue in children and adults as part of Professor Holly Branigan’s research group. S/he will contribute to the development of the research programme; design, carry out and analyse experiments; and write up and contribute to relevant reports. Some delivery of undergraduate and/or postgraduate teaching activities related to the topics of language production and/or dialogue will also be required. U Edinburgh IASH Fellowship 2020-21 (Scotland)

IASH was founded in 1969 with the pursuit of intellectual understanding as its highest priority. Interdisciplinarity and creativity have defined its history ever since. In this 50th anniversary year, IASH created new Fellowships for the most promising scholars in the arts, humanities and social sciences. A Senior Anniversary Fellowship is available to established scholars with more than 10 years’ experience in higher education.

For 2020-21, applications should center on the place of the humanities in the 21st century. As IASH is located in the College of Arts, Humanities and Social Science, a key role for the Anniversary Fellows is to take forward inquiry in a cross-disciplinary way, perhaps at the outermost disciplinary boundaries of the humanities, arts and social sciences.

On 2 October 2019, the world will celebrate the 150th anniversary of M. K. Gandhi’s birth. Accordingly, the University of St Andrews would like to announce a call for papers to be delivered at an international symposium convened by the School of History. The symposium will bring researchers from the around the world together to present papers on Gandhi as a journalist and how the media covered Gandhi. Mahatma Gandhi’s nonviolent political philosophy became a model for the next generation of political activists, including Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. in the United States and Nelson Mandela in South Africa.

The Scottish Policy Innovation and Research Exchange (SPIRE) is a new initiative of the Campaign for Social Science in Scotland, part of the Academy of Social Sciences. The Campaign was established in 2011 to promote the use of social science in public policy making and in wider society.

As the founding Director, you will take the lead in establishing SPIRE’s digital platforms, ensuring they earn a reputation for academic excellence as well as accessibility and relevance to the policy community. Working with relevant partners, you will instigate and embed the mentoring network and establish the training programme. In addition, you will be expected to develop and introduce further tools to help social scientists and policymakers work more effectively together.
