The Ethnic Media Associate will also be responsible for developing a group of message surrogates, both inside and outside of American Progress, who will be able to deliver a progressive message to ethnic specialty audiences. The Ethnic Media Associate will conduct media training, pitch, book, and develop messages for this network of experts.

Responsibilities:

Reporting to the Director of Research and Editorial and working in collaboration with staff and contractors working on the Central African Republic, the Policy Analyst on the Central African Republic, or CAR, will be responsible for researching and writing about the drivers of conflict in CAR and the surrounding region, including the war economy and sources of financing for the conflicting parties. The Policy Analyst will also focus on related U.S. government, corporate, and international policy for the Enough Project’s policy papers, briefings, communications, and advocacy efforts. This is a position that requires three main areas of expertise: deep, field-based knowledge about the economic, security, and political dynamics in CAR and the region, including on conflict resources such as diamonds, gold, and ivory that are smuggled to international markets to fund armed groups; policy acumen, particularly regarding U.S. policy in Africa; and a demonstrated ability to write concise policy reports and briefing papers. Fluency in French is required. This position is located in Washington, D.C.

Responsibilities: Conduct original research and policy analysis on the dynamics of conflict and peace in CAR, including on conflict resources such as diamonds, gold, ivory, and other illicit natural resource trades, as well as regional political and security dynamics. The research will take place in CAR, neighboring countries, trade hubs for illicit resource trading such as Dubai, and policy capitals including Washington, New York, Paris, and elsewhere.
*Work collaboratively to set a research agenda for the subject.
*Author, co-author, and edit policy reports, memos, op-eds, and other documents on the subjects.
*Help formulate original policy recommendations and encourage adoption by senior policymakers within the U.S. government, other influential governments, the African Union, and the United Nations.

Summary

The European Inter-University Centre for Human Rights and Democratisation (EIUC) is seeking a qualified individual for the position of E.MA Programme Director for the academic year 2015/2016. The American University of Kuwait (AUK) is seeking terminally qualified faculty committed to excellence in teaching, scholarly research, and service. American education or teaching experience is preferred as is evidence of research activity. Outstanding communication skills, cultural sensitivity, and effective use of classroom media and technology are expected. Faculty rank will be determined by the candidate’s degree and previous employment history. Successful candidates will teach undergraduate classes to majors and non-majors of diverse cultural backgrounds, conduct research, participate in student advising, honor office hours, and serve on faculty committees.

Electronic Media (Position Code No. 14-201- ICA 12): Rank Assistant Professor or higher, a full-time position in electronic media. The ideal candidate should be able to teach a variety of classes in radio, television and digital media. The candidate will also possess the necessary expertise required for the development of a new track in electronic media to be housed under the Department of Communication and Media. The ability to teach classes in media studies is a plus. Ph.D. in mass communication is required.

Media Studies (Position Code No. 14-202- ICA 12): Rank Assistant Professor or higher, a full-time position in media studies to teach introductory and advanced courses in the department. The ideal candidate should be able to teach courses in communication research methods and communication theory. The ability to teach courses in PR/advertising is also desirable but is not required. The ideal candidate would also aid in curriculum development and program assessment and carry out other tasks assigned by the Chair. Ph.D. in mass communication is required.

Tenure-track Associate/Full Professor
Department of Communication, Culture & Media Studies, Howard University

The Department of Communication, Culture and Media Studies, with a doctoral-level program, seeks to fill a tenure-track position at the Associate or Full Professor level in U.S. multicultural media and communication studies. We are seeking a historical and critical scholar who can teach a range of doctoral-level courses in and serve on dissertation committees.  Applicants should have substantive knowledge in at least two of the following:  media industries, popular culture, communication policy, audience research, political economy of communication, media globalization, communication technologies, or media and social movements, as these relate to the African American experience.  Incorporation of multicultural concerns, e.g., gender, race, ethnicity, socio-economic class, sexuality and/or nationality, in the applicant’s research agenda is essential.  Responsibilities would include teaching 4-6 courses per year, mentoring students in their research, serving on dissertation committees, participating in other administrative committees, carrying on a full program of research, and exercising leadership within the broader profession.

Qualifications
Applicants should possess an earned doctorate in a communications field or a related discipline.  The ideal candidate will have at least six years of full-time teaching experience and a publications track record, as well as demonstrated promise for research and publication.  Applicants should also possess an understanding of the broader field of communications as well as specific knowledge in mass communications, as listed above.

The Department, School and University
The Department of Communication, Culture and Media Studies (CCMS) offers doctoral-level studies leading to the Ph.D.  The person hired will help to build the CCMS program through course re/development, by carrying on an active program of scholarship and publication, and through mentorship of students. The department has a diverse community of approximately 50 doctoral students from the United States and other nations, and a core faculty of five, with additional affiliate faculty from other departments in the recently restructured School of Communications.  The School of Communications is an interdisciplinary unit composed of two undergraduate departments (Strategic, Legal and Management Communications; and Media, Journalism and Film) and two graduate departments (Communication, Culture and Media Studies; and Communication Sciences and Disorders).
