EIUC Electoral Observers Training 2021 (Italy)

Training seminar for International Electoral Observers, Global Campus of Human Rights, Venice, Italy, 15-20 November 2021. Deadline: 29 October 2021.

The Global Campus of Human Rights has developed a course aiming at providing training to civilian staff in election observation missions at the first steps of their career (i.e. short term observers). Selected applicants will be allowed to become aware of the role, the tasks and the status of international observers, and will be given a theoretical and practical training on election observation and election observation missions functioning. The training will take place in Venice, at the Global Campus of Human Rights Headquarters, from 15-20 November 2021.

After the successful brand new online edition of February 2021, a second edition of the course will offer selected participants a new challenging experience in distance learning education.

EIUC Summer School: Cinema Human Rights and Advocacy (Italy)

The Summer School is a training initiative jointly developed by the Global Campus and Picture People. The 11-day intense training is aimed at young professionals wishing to broaden their understanding on the connections between human rights, films, digital media and video advocacy, to share ideas and foster participatory and critical thinking on urgent human rights issues, debate with experts and filmmakers from all over the world during the Venice international Film Festival and learn how to use films as a tool for social and cultural change.

NOTE: Due to the global outbreak of the COVID-19 pandemic, the Summer School in Cinema, Human Rights and Advocacy will take place in a reduced 7-day format from 31 August to 06 September 2020, taking into account any eventual measures adopted by the 77th Venice International Film Festival.

Open and legitimate elections are the indispensable foundation for sustainable development and an effective democracy. Actions supporting the right to participate in genuine elections can play a major role in sustaining peace, security and conflict prevention. Support takes the form of electoral assistance projects and election observation missions. This requires skilled and trained observers. EIUC (European Inter-University Centre for Human Rights and Democratisation) has developed a course aiming at providing training to civilian staff in election observation missions at the first steps of their career. The Summer School offers an exciting programme of lectures, film screenings, discussions and working groups that combine human rights expertise, media studies and video advocacy strategies. The eight sessions develop issues relating to the Universal Declaration of Human Rights illustrated in Films, a History of Human Rights Cinema, Freedom of Expression and Censorship, the Role of the Media in Advancing Human Rights Causes, the Use of Video in Human Rights Documentation and Advocacy, Production and Distribution of Human Rights Films and Social Documentaries, The Role of the New Media during Conflict, Documentary Film Project Development. Each module is illustrated by film or documentary screenings.

EIUC Global Campus Visual Contest: Diversity & Inclusion

Photo ContestThe Global Campus of Human Rights is glad to announce the launch of the fourth edition of the Global Campus Visual Contest, open to photographers and video-makers, professionals and amateurs, from any part of the world. It will be open from 1 March and will accept submissions through 4 May 2018.

The theme for 2018 is “Diversity and Inclusion”. Our societies are increasingly diverse in terms of values, beliefs not to mention characteristics like gender, sexual orientation, culture, language, and more. Evidence shows that by adopting and integrating inclusive practices and policies, and by managing them well, institutions and the people within them thrive. Through its official launch on the 1st March Zero Discrimination Day, the Global Campus Visual Contest would like to promote diversity and celebrate everyone’s right to live a full life with dignity without discrimination.
NOTE: Remember that the Center for Intercultural Dialogue has also organized a video competition, asking for answers to the question, What does intercultural dialogue look like? Please participate in the EIUC event, but remember to participate in ours as well!

Venice Academy of Human Rights 2018 (Italy)

Applied ICDEIUC has announced the launch of its 2018 Venice Academy of Human Rights, an international and interdisciplinary programme of excellence for human rights education, research and debate. It provides an enriching forum for emerging ideas, practices and policy options in the field of human rights. The Academy hosts distinguished experts to promote critical and useful research and innovation through the exchange of current knowledge.

The 2018 Venice Academy of Human Rights will focus on “Migration, Mobility and Diversity: New Horizons for Human Rights”. EIUC is honored to welcome back Professor François Crépeau, former U.N. Special Rapporteur on the Human Rights of Migrants from 2011 to 2017, current Director of the Centre for Human Rights and Legal Pluralism at McGill University, Canada and recently appointed 2017-2018 International Francqui Professor at Université catholique de Louvain, to the Monastery of San Nicolò which he will act as the Academic and Scientific Coordinator of the Academy.

EIUC Venice School of Human Rights (Italy) 2018

Applied ICDEIUC is glad to announce the next Venice School of Human Rights, 9-16 June 2018. Registration deadline extended to 14 May 2018.

It allows its participants coming from all over the world to list these challenges and examine their reasons and possible solutions they can deploy. The EIUC Venice School at the same time, combines theory and practice and its faculty involves both academics and practitioners. The Venice School intends to highlight that the respect for human rights is the responsibility of all, that “Human Rights are our responsibility”.
