The ideal candidate will have a mix of academic, professional and technical expertise in the area of digital media production. Teaching responsibilities include fundamentals of broadcasting, field production courses, visual storytelling, advanced A/V production and workflow, and mass media management. Additional skills in film, broadcasting or graphics are a major asset.

Position 2: Arab Media Specialist

Candidate sought with a background in mass media, strategic communication, or journalism with a specialization in Arab media. Teaching expectations include general mass media classes (introduction, writing, theory, etc.), as well as the development of specialized undergraduate courses in Arab media and communication studies.

Three Open-Rank Positions: Digital Media Production/Emerging Media/Strategic Communication at Gulf University for Science and Technology

The Gulf University for Science and Technology is Kuwait’s first private, American-model university with a current enrollment of approximately 3,600 students. GUST currently offers programs in the Arts and Sciences, as well as Business—including an MBA.

The Department of Mass Communication and Media (MCM) invites applications for three open-rank, full-time positions. All candidates are expected to hold a PhD in a relevant field by the time of application and have a demonstrated record of scholarly achievement. Research interests in the MENA region are welcomed but not expected.

Position 1: Media Production/Broadcast Specialist
The ideal candidate will have a mix of academic, professional and technical expertise in the areas of broadcasting and digital media production. Experience in radio or television broadcast production preferred. Teaching responsibilities include fundamentals of broadcasting, field production courses and mass media management. Additional skills such as cinematography, editing, audio production or digital storytelling an asset. The candidate will play a leadership role in the evolution of our current broadcasting concentration into a broader emphasis on multimedia production on set, on location, and online.

Position 2: Emerging Media
Candidate sought with expertise on the social impacts of digital media, as well as the effective application and evaluation of social media tools. Specialized interest in digital media production, strategic communication, media regulation or visual communication would complement both the current and future curriculum. Teaching expectations include media theory, social media planning and evaluation, writing for the media and general mass communication courses in line with the candidate’s background and interests.

Position 3: Strategic Communication

Candidate sought with expertise in strategic communication, international/intercultural public relations or other related areas. Interest in or experience with community engagement and social responsibility is highly desirable. Teaching expectations include a range of PR courses, as well as communication campaigns, advertising, integrated marketing communication, persuasive writing or political communication. Those with professional experience are especially welcome.

The Department of Mass Communication and Media offers a B.A. degree with concentrations in public relations and advertising, visual communication, and radio/TV broadcasting. There are approximately 500 majors overall with the largest majority concentrating in PR. The MCM department prides itself on an active and collegial academic environment with a strong commitment to experiential learning. The department expects its first American accreditation by Fall 2017. All instruction is in English.

A good candidate will be able to teach (North American/European/Australasian) media law and ethics, with the ability to incorporate comparative perspectives with local and regional Arab media environments. Electronic Media and Media Studies

The American University of Kuwait (AUK) is seeking terminally qualified faculty committed to excellence in teaching, scholarly research, and service. American education or teaching experience is preferred as is evidence of research activity. Outstanding communication skills, cultural sensitivity, and effective use of classroom media and technology are expected. Faculty rank will be determined by the candidate’s degree and previous employment history. Successful candidates will teach undergraduate classes to majors and non-majors of diverse cultural backgrounds, conduct research, participate in student advising, honor office hours, and serve on faculty committees.

Electronic Media (Position Code No. 14-201- ICA 12): Rank Assistant Professor or higher, a full-time position in electronic media. The ideal candidate should be able to teach a variety of classes in radio, television and digital media. The candidate will also possess the necessary expertise required for the development of a new track in electronic media to be housed under the Department of Communication and Media. The ability to teach classes in media studies is a plus. Ph.D. in mass communication is required.

Media Studies (Position Code No. 14-202- ICA 12): Rank Assistant Professor or higher, a full-time position in media studies to teach introductory and advanced courses in the department. The ideal candidate should be able to teach courses in communication research methods and communication theory. The ability to teach courses in PR/advertising is also desirable but is not required. The ideal candidate would also aid in curriculum development and program assessment and carry out other tasks assigned by the Chair. Ph.D. in mass communication is required.

Public relations or strategic communication (x2): Professional experience and expertise in international/intercultural public relations, advertising, political communication, or rhetoric are highly desirable. Teaching duties include courses in PR and advertising, integrated marketing communication, strategic/political communication, and persuasive writing.

Broadcasting (x1): Experience with audio/video production and broadcast copywriting are expected. Expertise in media law, media theory, journalism, or digital media are highly desirable. Teaching duties include courses in radio and TV production, video and sound editing, media packages, news gathering, public speaking, media theory, and writing for mass media.
