The University of Hull is looking for a Study Abroad Manager who will be responsible for day-to-day management of a range of programmes in support of international mobility for Hull students. These will include in-year study abroad programmes with exchange partners and summer opportunities. The post-holder will actively manage relationships with key stakeholders in student mobility, including exchange partners, international organisations that support mobility, and key internal contacts who support the effective delivery of mobility. They will manage the organisation of pre-arrival communication, induction and relevant ongoing support to outgoing and incoming students on mobility programmes. They will work to increase the number of fee-paying Visiting Students, in addition to supporting incoming students on exchange or short courses. The post-holder will ensure strong inter-cultural competency and respect in their work, in line with the University’s global and inclusive values.

An exciting opportunity has arisen for a Lecturer to join the School of Politics, Philosophy, Language and Communication Studies to deliver lectures and seminars and carry out teaching-related duties. The Department of Language and Communication Studies submits to Area Studies for the REF, were top 5 in the unit of assessment in REF 2021 and have achieved strong NSS scores.

Teaching is a key part of this role and as such you will be expected to plan, teach and assess undergraduate and postgraduate programmes, taking responsibility for the delivery and assessment of specific modules. This will include organising modules and developing teaching and learning materials. You will also take responsibility for some of the degree programmes within the school, regularly interview prospective students and promote enterprise and engagement at UEA.

They are looking for a scholar with a PhD (or equivalent) in area connected with communication studies and/or linguistics, relevant teaching experience, and a passion for student experience. They are particularly looking for specialism(s) in Intercultural Communication and Linguistics (specifically pragmatics).

This full-time post is available on a fixed-term basis to cover maternity leave. The post is available from 2 January 2024 until 31 July 2024.

The Open University is recruiting a Project Manager to manage the Horizon-Europe and Innovate UK co-funded research project entitled OppAttune: Countering Oppositional Extremism through Attuned Dialogue: Track, Attune, Limit. OppAttune is focused on reducing extreme political narratives and building capacity for democratic dialogue in Europe and beyond. OppAttune is a jointly co-ordinated project involving co-ordination between the Open University, UK, Panteion University, Athens, Greece and Glasgow Caledonian University, UK. The successful project manager will work closely with the three joint coordinators Professor Kesi Mahendran (OU), Professor Xenia Chryssochoou (Panteion) and Professor Umut Korkut (GCU). The project manager will have the opportunity to work with a large OppAttune research team based within the centre, the work package leads, the steering committee and the full consortium of 17 international partners to deliver the project on time within budget. The project began in April 2023 and will run until March 2026.

The Centre for Research in the Arts, Social Sciences and Humanities (CRASSH) invites applications for a Programme Coordinator to support a new Global History Lab (GHL) at the University of Cambridge. GHL is a platform for learning, skill development and collaboration in the creation of new narratives across global divides. Using cutting-edge technologies, innovative pedagogical practices and training in oral history methods, the GHL educates students about the history of globalisation and prepares them to become knowledge producers for a wider world. The program enlists universities and NGOs to engage in a new model of global education through peer-to-peer exchanges. It pushes the study and application of history into new humanitarian frontiers by integrating displaced peoples and refugees into its network. It promotes human capabilities of understanding by developing narrative voices and listening skills between strangers. The GHL is committed to the pursuit of the production of knowledge about the global past globally – in a way that is innovative, economical and reaches across the world’s fractures.

The Programme Coordinator role is central to the activities within GHL by managing all the parts of the activities in collaboration with the course administrator in Cambridge Online Education, and will be part of a friendly and supportive team of administrators based in CRASSH.

The call for abstracts is now open for The British Association for Comparative International Education (BAICE). The Student Committee warmly welcomes your submissions to the 2023 Annual Early Career conference, ‘Transformative education as a force for change: reflections and experiences from around the world’. The conference will be held over two days, hosted online via Zoom.

They invite submissions from postgraduate students, researchers and practitioners engaged with education research. The conference offers a dynamic and friendly environment for postgraduate researchers to showcase and discuss their research, even if the research is still in early stages. CRASSH: CIRN Intesa Sanpaolo Visiting Fellowship 2023/24 (UK)

CIRN Intesa Sanpaolo Visiting Fellowship offers an opportunity for an outstanding early career scholar whose research focuses on Italy to spend a period of time at Cambridge developing their research on a given broad theme, contributing to the Cambridge Italian Research Network (CIRN) and joining the Cambridge Centre for Research in the Arts, Social Sciences and Humanities (CRASSH).

The research theme for the Fellowship in 2023/24 will be ‘Diverse Italy’.

The Fellowship is open to early career scholars working on Italy from outside Cambridge (i.e., neither current researchers nor current members of staff at Cambridge), irrespective of their current status of employment, subject to visa conditions. ‘Early career’ is here defined as within five years of completing a PhD in any relevant field or discipline, allowing for career breaks. Near-native proficiency in English is a requirement for the Fellowship.

UCL: Head of Language Learning Futures (UK)

You will be working for the National Consortium for Languages Education (NCLE), funded by the Department for Education (DfE), working with a consortium of stakeholders, including the Goethe-Institut and the British Council and a national network of lead hub schools across England to increase uptake of languages qualifications in Key Stage 4 and 5 in English state-funded schools. You will work with the NCLE Director, the Director of Partnerships and Professional Development and the NCLE team to develop and deliver a national Continuing Professional Development (CPD) programme for Language Hub Lead School specialist teachers and all teachers of Languages, including support for Home, Heritage and Community Languages, across the 9 government regions in England. The CPD offer will be hybrid, involving face-to-face and virtual training, supported by digital modules that can be completed asynchronously.

You will be located in the International Centre for Intercultural Studies. The Centre promotes intellectually rigorous, practically relevant and interdisciplinary Intercultural Studies that advance understanding of the role of culture in society, education and communication and inform intercultural practices and policy. The Centre is part of the Department of Culture, Communication and Media, itself housed in IOE, UCL’s Faculty of Education and Society (formerly the Institute of Education).
