Montana State University (MSU) invites nominations and applications for an exceptional leader to serve as Dean for Global Engagement and International Programs. The Dean reports to the Executive Vice President for Academic Affairs and Provost and provides strategic academic leadership for the Office of International Programs. In leading the University’s global engagement initiatives, the Dean will spearhead MSU’s efforts in providing an environment and experience for all students that enhances learning and develops engaged global citizens and informed professionals.

The dean is responsible for providing leadership to the Office of International Programs and leading the planning and execution of strategic international initiatives for international students, international scholars, MSU faculty and MSU students. The dean participates on the Academic Council and other senior leadership groups within the University.

The dean is responsible for leading the effective operations of the different areas of the Office of International Programs by providing a cohesive vision, strong support for academic excellence, and oversight of student affairs issues in support of MSU’s strategic plan, Choosing Promise. The dean manages, plans, directs and coordinates OIP annual budget. The dean is responsible for effectively managing 16-20 OIP permanent staff, along with grant-related short- term employees, and student workers and interns.

· Office Manager & Assistant to the Dean
· Business Operations Manager
· Director of International Training and Professional Development Programs

Job Description Summary
The primary purpose of the Associate Director position is to assist the Director of the Global Engagement Center and the University with the development and assessment of its global initiatives. This position also includes the supervision of the day-to-day activities of the Center and the staff.

Representative Duties and Responsibilities
• Develop and execute of a wide range services which will lead to an increase in Study Away programs, international student recruitment, international scholars and additional global initiatives.
• Assist in the development and management of budget operations.
• Supervise, motivate and retain Global Engagement Center staff.
• Establish priorities for staff and conduct annual reviews.
• Develop policies and procedures for Study Away activities.
• Assist in the development and implementation of new collaborations furthering the purpose of the Global Engagement Center.
• Create and implement a new learning outcomes and assessment rubric in collaboration with CLOA.
• Work closely with academic units across the University to develop and implement new intercultural collaborations within the Twin Cities Area.
• Co-chair the Community Global Advisory Board of the Global Engagement Center.
• Manage the update and roll-out of new Global Engagement Center branding.
• Monitor progress and manage projects assigned to the Global Engagement Center to ensure they are on track, both in terms of quality, budget, and timeliness, keeping director and others well informed.
• Maintain and up-to-date “inventory” of globalization-related recourses and programs available to the campus community.
• Interface with the professional development and leadership services offered by the Forum, NAFSA, Department of State, Department of Homeland Security, Overseas Citizens Advisory Committee, etc.
• Manage the development of web-based resources for globalization, including working with faculty, staff and students as requested.
• On-call duties for all Study Away emergencies, both on or off campus.
• Articulate student transcripts from educational institution abroad.
• Act as a back-up for SEVIS (F-1 and J-1 visas).
• All other duties as requested.

Required Knowledge, Skills and abilities
• Experience and sensitivity working with students from diverse backgrounds, ability to work with students in crisis.
• Demonstrated sound judgment and decision-making abilities as reflected in the ability to remain calm in crisis situations; handle matters confidentially; and exercise discretion with sensitive topics.
• Thorough research and analytical skills as reflected in the ability to elicit pertinent quantitative and qualitative data from various sources, identifying key factors, trends and issues of concern.
• Ability to communicate clearly, effectively, and persuasively both verbally and in writing to diverse audiences, including exceptional public speaking and presentation skills.
• Experience developing and delivering training materials and programs.
• Ability to establish effective collaborations and partnerships between stakeholders with competing interests.
• Demonstrated leadership and organizational ability to balance conflicting interests, prioritize assignments, and coordinate multiple projects and people simultaneously.
• Ability to analyze complex and fast changing information about political, economic, cultural, and social context of risk, summarize possible implications, and make recommendations for action.
• Proficiency with various information technology tools including data management, web content management, and spreadsheets.
• Be familiar and comply with the Family Educational Rights and Privacy Act (FERPA) and exercise best practices with regard to the maintenance of confidential student information.General knowledge of basic travel insurance coverage provisions.
• Ability to use study abroad software applications (such as Studio Abroad).
• Working knowledge of Microsoft Office Suite, Google, Google Apps, Banner and Crystal reporting.

Minimum Education/Experience
• Must be a U.S. permanent resident or citizen per Department of Homeland Security Requirements.
• Master’s Degree from an accredited college or university
• Five (5) years of professional experience in a leadership and supervisory role within higher education.
• Three (3) years professional experience making decisions in crisis situations or decisions related to confidential information.
• Ability to travel nationally and internationally.
• Must be able to work an on-call schedule and respond in emergency situations. Evenings and weekend work is required.

Preferred Education/Experience
Experience living, studying or working abroad for a minimum of three (3) months.
• Five (5) years professional experience related to budget development and management.
• One (1) year experience with study abroad software applications (such as Studio Abroad).

Required Licensure/Certification/Registration
• Must have a valid US Passport

Communication for Global Engagement Across Cultural Boundaries is an edited book under contract with Kendall/ Hunt Publishing Company. We are looking for a few additional essays to complete our collection.

This project is a collection of essays and case studies that situates intercultural communication for global understanding and engagement. While the over-arching approach is from a critical communication perspective, authors may use a variety of approaches to study intercultural communication. Recommended topics include, but are not limited to:
*Intercultural Communication and Globalization
*Social Justice: Shattering the Intercultural Silence
*Popular Culture
*Intercultural Relationships
*The Culture of Capitalism and Democracy
*Race in a Post-Obama Era
*Culture and Eco-Justice
*Immigration and Border Crossing
*Education Abroad

Submission Procedure:
Each author will be asked to send with their essay five open-ended questions to spark classroom discussion.  This reader will be written primarily for undergraduates who are studying intercultural communication.

Potential contributors should submit a short biographical sketch (50-150 words) along with a brief abstract (500-1000 words) stating your essay’s central theme and purpose. Mention in your abstract which of the aforementioned topics your chapter fits.  All essays must be received by September 2, 2014.  All manuscripts must be submitted in APA style 6th edition and double spaced throughout inclusive of notes and reference matter.  For further inquiry, please email Andrea Patterson-Masuka.
