U Portland: Prof for Development of Ethnic Studies (USA)

The College of Arts & Sciences (CAS) at University of Portland invites applications for a full-time, tenure-track associate or professor rank faculty position in ethnic studies, beginning in fall 2021 (pending final budget approval). The successful candidate will lead the college’s formation and establishment of a new ethnic studies undergraduate major and minor that work across disciplines. The ethnic studies program will support the university’s mission of embedding diverse perspectives, especially of underrepresented populations, in the curriculum. Candidates should have experience in interdisciplinary and intersectional methods as they relate to ethnic studies. Expertise in an area(s) such as African American, Asian American, Latinx, Native American, Pacific Islander American Studies is especially welcome. The successful candidate should have higher-education experience commensurate with the rank of at least associate professor and also organizational or administrative experience that gives them the necessary expertise to initiate and oversee the new program.

The Institute of Communication, Culture, Information and Technology (ICCIT) at the University of Toronto Mississauga invites applications for a full-time tenure stream appointment in the area of Mediated Communication at the rank of Associate Professor. The position start date is July 1, 2021, or shortly thereafter. Candidates must have a PhD in communication, sociology, computational social science, network science, information science, or a related area. Candidates must have a demonstrated exceptional record of excellence in research and teaching. They must demonstrate an excellent research program emphasizing the application of quantitative methods, big data analytics, network analysis, or mixed methods with a strong quantitative component, to study the role of technologically mediated communication in society. ICCIT seeks candidates whose research and teaching interests complement and strengthen existing strengths. Language Education is an innovative and dynamic emerging field in Moray House School of Education and Sport. They are looking to recruit a Lecturer with particular interest in promoting Language Education throughout the School in order to enhance a substantial team of transdisciplinary researchers and teachers, and to embed Language Education across a range of diverse programmes.

The Language Education Strategy sets out a vision for bringing together three key areas: languages(s); (pluri) literacies; and interculturality. Each of those areas embraces a wide portfolio of research that is informed by a critical framework, including pluriliteracies, first and second language learning and teaching (heritage, English, community, European and other languages); bi/multilingualism, English as an additional language; Content and Language Integrated Learning; Global Englishes, language policy and practice; student and teacher identity; Language Teacher Education; discourse; intercultural communication; TESOL; Applied Linguistics; technology enhanced learning; and internationalisation. The successful applicant will have academic experience at post-doctoral level in one or more of the above areas and will be expected to contribute to our highly successful Masters level teaching programmes, to the supervision of doctoral students, and to secure research grants through our Language Education Thematic Research Hub aligned with REF high quality research outputs.

The post will require a culturally sensitive vision that reflects a commitment to social justice and the provision of high quality student experience. The successful candidate will contribute to the wider work of the subject area and the School, regionally, nationally and internationally.

“The Language and Communication chair group at the Faculty of Humanities is looking for an Assistant Professor in the field of Health Interactions. Our research and teaching are focused on the interplay of language, interaction and communication. We are looking for someone to further advance our conversation-analytic research and teaching on matters of health and illness, more specifically on how participants negotiate meaning in real-life medical and other health care contexts. Research settings include primary care interactions, consultations on vaccination, dietary advice, patient vlogs, and mental health support groups. The selected candidate will obtain external research funding, coordinate research projects and (co-)supervise PhD candidates. S/he will help develop, and coordinate the new international master track Dialogue, Health and Society (starting September 2021). The track focuses on fundamental interaction-analytic research so as to facilitate and evaluate different forms of dialogue in the health domain. The new assistant professor is familiar with different theoretical and methodological research traditions, including the quantitative analysis of larger data sets. Royal Roads University invites interest in a limited-term Faculty appointment at the rank of assistant, associate or full professor within the School of Communication and Culture (SCC) in the Faculty of Social and Applied Sciences. As a full-time core faculty member, you would play a key role in the delivery of SCC’s programs. SCC offers three degree programs in the study of communication and culture which are focused on the theory and practice of professional communication, in a wide range of contexts including media, organizational and intercultural. They stress a critical-professional educational approach.
