The successful candidate will contribute to the delivery and development of our BPS-accredited BSc degree programmes (Social Psychology, and Psychology with Criminology).

Candidates are expected to have a completed PhD in psychology, an active research profile, the clear potential to contribute to the Department’s research culture, and a strong commitment to high quality teaching in an HE environment. Summary of Accountabilities and Responsibilities:
• Work with the Deputy Dean and other senior managers in the School to agree a strategic direction that is in line with the University’s internationalisation strategy.
• Reporting to the Deputy Dean to assist him to lead across the School the implementation and delivery of University and School policies, strategic decisions and compliance requirements particularly those related to internationalisation.
• Lead and manage within the school in relation to international student recruitment, student mobility and an internationally focused curriculum and assist the Deputy Dean in partner relationship management.
• Work with Associate Deans (Research) and (Enterprise) in the School to expand international research and enterprise opportunities.
• Work closely with the International Office and Alumni Office on the development of the University Global profile and expansion of its international alumni relations.
• Work with the Deputy Dean to develop, support and evaluate equality and diversity initiatives.
• Work with School administrative and academic  staff, Academic  Registry and International Office staff on matters relating to the administration and attendance international students
• Work with the Deputy Dean to write proposals and/or bids for European funding for internationalisation.
• Work with the Deputy Dean and International Office to develop the school marketing strategy and international student recruitment and outward mobility.
• Work with the Associate Dean (Enterprise) on the expansion of summer school opportunities
• Where appropriate, deliver teaching overseas.
• Work closely with the Deputy Dean and the Dean of Quality Standards to ensure that international activity complies with the University’s academic standards and quality.
• Promote a welcoming and stimulating international academic and social environment in the school for incoming staff and students from overseas and for international visitors.
• Promote an understanding and appreciation the School and its students of the opportunities and values of internationalisation.
• Contribute to internationalisation initiatives for academic staff, including the development of staff capability to internationalise their curriculum and adopt relevant learning and teaching practices.
• Promote a positive image for the University throughout all School activities.
• Substitute for the Deputy Dean when required.
• Undertake teaching and engage in advanced research and/or enterprise, as agreed by the Dean of the School.

A well established Sino-British University Programme in Chengdu, China is seeking additional motivated, experienced teachers to help deliver a UK University International Foundation Programme for the coming academic year. The programme forms the first year of Business and Computing programmes delivered exclusively in English but taught in China to the same standards as those delivered in the UK. Students study in Chengdu for three or four years and are awarded the same degrees or higher diplomas as students studying in the UK. The programme has a reputation for stringent quality management and has successfully sent students on to complete post-graduate degrees at top ranking institutions such as University College London, the University of Glasgow, and the University of Birmingham.

The International Foundation Programme bridges the gap between students who have taken the Chinese National College Entrance Examination and the skills required to be successful on a UK undergraduate award. Modules delivered include General English, Academic English, Communication Skills, Business/Computing English, Maths and IT skills and an Integrated Project. Candidates with a background in ESL teaching to young adults or university preparation courses are preferred. Experience of the UK higher education system is a definite plus. Those who apply with experience of living or studying in China will also be looked upon favourably, as well as those having a well developed sense of adventure and strong team work skills. Minimum qualifications needed would be an undergraduate degree, but relevant teaching qualifications such as a CELTA are also desirable. Evidence of having a reflective approach to teaching/training could also be demonstrated in any application for this position.

University of Oxford Postdoctoral Fellowship (UK)

The Health Experiences Research Group, within the Nuffield Department of Primary Care Health Sciences, is seeking a postdoctoral ethnographer to join the internationally regarded HERG team. This excellent opportunity has arisen through funding for an NIHR HS&DR funded project. The INQUIRE study aims to improve NHS capability to interpret online feedback from patients and the public, and to understand whether and how to act on this to improve services. INQUIRE is comprised of five projects; this post involves being part of a project which will capture how NHS staff, and the organisations they work for, use (and resist using) user-generated online content in practice. The postholder will be responsible for conducting in-depth organisational case studies in four NHS Trusts across the UK and will be embedded in each of the four sites for a period of time in order to study individual and organisational-level issues in relation to online patient feedback on health services.

You will hold a PhD in a social science or possess equivalent research experience, have proven experience of ethnographic research, preferably with experience relevant to technology adoption in a health care setting, with excellent interpersonal, analytic and communication skills, a strong publication record and an interest in digital healthcare.

The post is available full-time, fixed-term, for 2 years.

Intercultural Harmony Grants from Laura Jane Musser Fund

Through the Intercultural Harmony Initiative, the Laura Jane Musser Fund provides grants to projects that promote mutual understanding and cooperation between groups and citizens of different cultural backgrounds. The geographic area for this initiative is the following states: Colorado, Hawaii, Michigan, Minnesota, and Wyoming.  Online applications will be accepted at www.musserfund.org from September 16 through October 16, 2015.
