St Lawrence U: International/Intercultural Studies (USA)

Reporting to the Associate Dean of International and Intercultural Studies, the Assistant Director will work closely with the staff of the Center for International and Intercultural Studies to advise students and the wider campus community about off-campus study and intercultural education. S/he will be the primary manager of the St. Lawrence international studies website and assist with the Terra Dotta/Studio Abroad online application management system. S/he will work to expand the use of blogs, video, social media, and teleconferencing, to promote diversity education and enhance students’ learning experience before, during, and after study abroad.

CFP British Council: The Big Conversation (UK)

“JobCall for Proposals: The British Council  is commissioning a research pilot for a new research-led programme on global values and international cooperation called The Big Conversation. Deadlines are in February 2020.

The programme focuses on how values are central to international cultural relations and cooperation. This is particularly important in the context of forming international partnerships to address shared global challenges, such as development, climate change and technology governance. The Research Pilot will focus on the UK and two other case-study countries where they are running relevant activities. They are seeking proposals from research organisations and consultants with expertise in values research, deliberative dialogue, intercultural relations and other related fields. The results will be used to set up The Big Conversation programme, which will convene global research and debate on shared values. It will develop new evidence-based cultural relations approaches to encourage dialogue and cooperation on shared global challenges.

To that effect, the Assistant Director-General for the Social and Human Sciences is responsible for the overall implementation of the Social and Human Sciences Major Programme, as approved by UNESCO’s governing bodies. This comprises management, planning and coordination of UNESCO’s strategy, programmes and plans of action for the Social and Human Sciences Sector, including transversal and interdisciplinary initiatives, as well as assistance in mobilizing extrabudgetary resources and establishing partnerships.

The Social and Human Sciences Sector’s mission is to strengthen social and human sciences programmes and policies – nationally, regionally and globally – and to promote international cooperation to address the critical challenges of the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). The Department of English at Tsuda University is seeking to hire an Assistant/Associate Professor in Communication Studies (with tenure), starting on April 1, 2021. Thew new faculty member will teach courses at both undergraduate and graduate levels, including but not limited to communication theory and research, intercultural communication, interpersonal communication, and rhetorical criticism. The successful candidate is also expected to teach English language courses such as Academic Writing, Public Speaking, and Debate.

The language of instruction will primarily be English. However, the successful candidate should also have sufficient Japanese proficiency to handle daily academic and administrative work.
