Fulbright Opportunities 2026-27

FulbrightsFulbright has announced open awards competitions for both US scholars to travel abroad, and international scholars to travel to the US. Deadlines vary by program.

The Fulbright U.S. Scholar Program is now open for applications with a deadline of 25 September 2025. The Fulbright U.S. Scholar Program offers over 400 awards in more than 135 countries for U.S. citizens to teach, conduct research and carry out professional projects around the world.  College and university faculty, as well as artists and professionals from a wide range of fields can join over 400,000 Fulbrighters who have come away with enhanced skills, new connections, and greater mutual understanding.

For those outside the US, interested in a stay in the US, the Visiting Scholar Program is the obvious beginning point. In addition, the Scholar-in-Residence Program accepts applications from U.S. institution of higher education to host a scholar from outside of the United States for a semester or full academic year to teach courses, assist in curriculum development, guest lecture, develop study abroad/exchange partnerships and engage with the campus and the local community.

Fulbright Commission: Executive Director for Czech Republic

The J. W. Fulbright Commission for Educational Exchange in the Czech Republic is a binational organization whose mission is to promote mutual understanding by fostering educational and research collaboration between the Czech Republic and the United States. The Commission is a contributory organization of the Czech Ministry of Education, Youth, and Sports, and administers the Fulbright Program on behalf of the Bureau of Educational and Cultural Affairs (ECA) of the U.S. Department of State, facilitating academic and cultural exchange between the two nations. To sustain and advance the success of the Fulbright Program in the Czech Republic, the Commission invites applications for the position of Executive Director.

 

IIE: Fulbright Scholar Program Outreach & Recruitment (USA/Hybrid)

This Institute of International Education (IIE) is hiring an Assistant Director, Fulbright Scholar Program Outreach & Recruitment to lead a team of dedicated professionals who connect U.S. scholars to opportunities abroad. This position will work with the Fulbright Outreach and Recruitment department. The Fulbright Program is the flagship international academic exchange program sponsored by the United States Government. Fulbright was founded in 1946 with an ambitious goal—to increase mutual understanding and support friendly and peaceful relations between the people of the United States and the people of other countries. Led by the U.S. Government in partnership with more than 160 countries worldwide, Fulbright offers an expansive suite of life-changing international academic and cultural exchange opportunities.

The Assistant Director develops an outreach plan to reach diverse audiences of prospective applicants and to expand Fulbright’s engagement with higher education institutions in the U.S. Additionally, the Assistant Director executes a comprehensive recruitment plan that leverages the campus network of Fulbright Scholar Liaisons and that supports individual applicants through application advising, virtual activities and digital resources. The Assistant Director leads a team of outreach and recruitment professionals and collaborates across Fulbright teams to advance the Program’s mission and goals. The Assistant Director works closely with Fulbright Program’s sponsor, the U.S. Department of State.

Collegium de Lyon Fellowships 2025-26 (France)

Collegium de Lyon Fulbright fellowships, Lyon, France. Deadline: 16 September 2024.

Through a new partnership between the Franco-American Fulbright Commission and the Collegium de Lyon, applicants to one of the three national Fulbright scholarship programs (All Disciplines, French Studies, Fulbright-Tocqueville) who wish to be hosted in a research unit in Lyon or Saint-Etienne are now eligible for a Collegium fellowship. This includes all-inclusive housing in the Collegium residence on the ENS de Lyon campus, assistance with administrative formalities, and integration into the 2025-2026 interdisciplinary cohort of international fellows.

Scholars interested in the Collegium fellowship program are asked to include a letter of support from the director of the targeted research unit at the University of Lyon with their Fulbright application.

IIE: Program Officer, Fulbright, Western Hemisphere (USA/Hybrid)

This position will work with the Fulbright Program Management department. The Fulbright Program is the flagship international academic exchange program sponsored by the United States Government. Led by the U.S. Government in partnership with more than 160 countries worldwide, Fulbright offers an expansive suite of life-changing international academic and cultural exchange opportunities.

The Senior Program Officer, Fulbright Student Programs is responsible for program deliverables for specified countries or programs within the Western Hemisphere region, in addition to playing a leadership role in managing budgets for the region as well as overseeing contracts and awards made directly with U.S. embassies, Fulbright Commissions, institutions and other organizations. This individual will support the implementation of the contractual services for the Fulbright Program, including country-specific budgets and program policies, working closely with their counterparts at the U.S. Department of State’s Bureau of Educational and Cultural Affairs (ECA), Fulbright Commissions and U.S. Embassies overseas, and internal teams within the larger Fulbright team at IIE to enable programmatic success.

IIE: Project Manager, Fulbright Events (USA/Hybrid)

The Institute of International Education (IIE) is hiring a Project Manager for our Fulbright Events Programs. This position will work with the Fulbright Events Team. The Fulbright Events team advances the mission of the Fulbright program by creating engagement and connections among Fulbright students, scholars, and professionals. Through our events, Fulbrighters from around the world connect with each other, engage with concepts and ideas, and further their professional development, academic success, and understanding of the United States and other countries.

The Project Manager implements seminars, conferences, orientations, and other events for the Fulbright Program. This position requires collaboration with other internal and external stakeholders. The Project Manager will oversee the work of coordinators, temporary employees, and volunteers on a project-by-project basis. This role will support the financial and operational health of the Fulbright Events, Outreach, Recruitment, and Communications teams.

Fulbright/IMéRA Fellowship in Migration Studies 2024-5 (France)

Call for applications: Fulbright/IMéRA Fellowship in Migration Studies 2024-5, IMéRA Institute for Advanced Study at Aix-Marseille University, France. Deadline: 15 September 2023.

Conduct research in any discipline relating to migration studies at the Institute for Advanced Study (IAS) of Aix-Marseille Université in Marseille, and participate in one or two day-long seminars on campus on the theme of the research project. Iméra is the Institute for Advanced Study (IAS) of Aix-Marseille University, the largest Francophone university in the world. Iméra welcomes scholars from around the world who are engaged in cross-disciplinary research projects for short-term stays. They expect applicants to solicit an invitation from an appropriate contact at Aix-Marseille University. Research activities must begin in September 2024 or February 2025.

Fulbright in the Classroom 2022

Call for Volunteers and Grant Applicants, Fulbright in the Classroom, Department of State, Washington, DC. Deadline: 15 June 2022.

For those who have been affiliated with the Fulbright Program, there is an opportunity to promote international understanding by sharing your Fulbright experiences with K-through-College students through Fulbright in the Classroom (FIC), and be paid for doing it (if you wish). All Fulbrighters are welcome to participate, especially recently returning students and ETAs, and visiting grantees. By participating, you can bring a personal perspective on the country you visited or share information about your home country. Please note that you must be a member of the Fulbright Association to participate in FIC or to apply for the grant.

You may participate as (1) a volunteer in your own area, and/or (2) apply for a $750 Fulbright Classroom Grant to reach out digitally to under-represented communities nationwide. The goal is to benefit especially communities who are not fully represented in the Program by inspiring future applicants.

The Fulbright U.S. Scholar Program and Fulbright U.S Student Program are accepting applications for 2023-24. Application deadlines are in the fall.  

Student awards, most of which open in April, will include the Fulbright-National Geographic Storytelling Fellowship, and the English Teaching Assistant Programs.
