The Alwaleed Centre for the Study of Islam in the Contemporary World at the University of Edinburgh is looking for an early career fellow to contribute to its growing research, teaching and outreach program on contemporary Muslim societies in a globalized world. The post-holder will conduct research into the contemporary social/political/religious dynamics of a key region, or regions, of the Muslim world. Priority will be given to applicants whose research focuses on regions not currently well covered by the Centre’s team (e.g. Sub-Saharan Africa, South Asia, Central Asia, East Asia, The Americas) or on supra-national processes. Applications from candidates whose work engages with broader transnational, international or global contexts would be particularly welcomed, as the post-holder will work with the Centre’s director to develop a research cluster on the globalized Muslim world. The post-holder will also be expected to contribute to the Alwaleed Centre’s teaching and outreach activities. The school welcomes applications for this post from all qualified candidates and particularly welcome applications from members of minority ethnic groups, who are currently under-represented in the School of Literatures, Languages and Cultures.

Research Fellowship in Migration Studies: Danube U Krems (Austria)

The Department of Migration and Globalization at Danube University Krems is inviting a highly motivated and committed short-term research fellow from 1 October 2021, or soon thereafter, until 31 January 2022 for preparing a sound PhD research proposal in the area of migration and integration research. The successful candidate is supported in acquiring funding for a PhD in Migration Studies. If the PhD funding application is successful, candidates will receive a fixed term employment contract for three years to complete a PhD in Migration Studies, enrolling into the PhD programme in Migration Studies at the Danube University Krems latest by autumn 2022.

Fellowships: Forced Migration & Refugee Studies 2021-22 (Germany)

The cooperation project “Forced Migration and Refugee Studies: Networking and Knowledge Transfer” (FFVT) aims to strengthen interdisciplinary forced migration and refugee research in Germany. It is jointly run by the Bonn International Center for Conversion, the Centre for Human Rights Erlangen-Nürnberg (University of Erlangen Nuremberg), the German Development Institute (Bonn) and the Institute for Migration Research and Intercultural Studies (University of Osnabrück) and funded by the German Federal Ministry of Education and Research. FFVT fellowships are granted to researchers or academics from abroad or with a refugee background working in the field of forced migration and refugee studies to support guest stays at (mainly) one of the collaborative partners of FFVT.  Fellowship allowances include a monthly scholarship and travel costs for 2–6 months between October 1, 2021 and December 31, 2022.

French Institutes for Advanced Study: Fellowships 2022-23 (France)

The French Institutes for Advanced Study Fellowship Programme offers 10-month fellowships in the five Institutes of Paris, Lyon, Marseille, Montpellier and Nantes. It welcomes applications from high-level international scholars and scientists primarily in the fields of the social sciences and the humanities (SSH). For the 2022-23 academic year, FIAS offers 28 fellowship positions: 17 in Paris, 4 in Marseille, 3 in Montpellier, and 4 in Nantes. The call is open to all disciplines in the SSH and all research fields. Research projects from other sciences that propose a transversal dialogue with SSH are also eligible. Some of the four IAS have scientific priorities they will focus on more specifically.

The Fellows will benefit from the support and conducive scientific environment offered by the IAS, in an interdisciplinary cohort of fellows and in close relation to the local research potential. The fellows will be free to organize their work and conduct research as they wish.

KAICIID Fellows 2021-22 (Austria)

Exchange programmes across religious educational institutions only exist within a few countries around the world. In most countries, exchange does not exist due either to a lack of interest, a lack of resources, and/or a lack of diversity of religious institutions. KAICIID recognises the integral part of knowledge-sharing among religious education institutions that train future leaders. The Centre aims to connect these institutions and their select teachers to a network of an active transnational community of interreligious dialogue practitioners in order to advocate for peace. The KAICIID International Fellows Programm seeks to not only address these problems but also to network institutions that train religious leaders transnationally so that interreligious dialogue can become a common feature of any religious training, whatever the religion might be.

All documents for the 2021/2022 Latin American and the Caribbean Regional Fellows Programme must be submitted by 30 May 2021. All documents for the 2022 KAICIID International Fellows Programme must be submitted by 10 June 2021.

Collegium Helveticum IAS Fellowships (Switzerland)

The Collegium Helveticum is pleased to share the new fellowship programme, starting at 1 September 2021. As an Institute for Advanced Studies (IAS) run jointly by ETH Zurich, the University of Zurich and Zurich University of the Arts, the Collegium seeks to promote exchange and collaboration across disciplinary boundaries. Up to eight scholars and artists will have the opportunity to spend 10 months in 2021/22 as junior fellows at the Collegium Helveticum, located in the ETH Zurich’s historical observatory («Semper Observatory»).

The call is open for early-career researchers working in any academic or artistic disciplines at postdoc or equivalent level (for artists). Junior fellows receive a grant in the form of a full-salaried post at ETH Zurich. The fellows will be able to pursue individual projects and become part of the Collegium’s international network and fellow community. The Collegium’s work and meeting rooms, its new art and exhibition spaces and its various opportunities for exchange and interaction offer ideal conditions for a thriving culture of dialogue and a creative environment for innovative academic and artistic projects.

CFP CMM Institute: 2021 Fellowship Program

The CMM Institute is seeking innovative proposals for projects or studies which use CMM concepts to reflect on what we learned from the process of responding to a global pandemic, and how we might apply what we have learned to bridge fragmented social realities and identities that have been made more visible by this experience. Given this year’s CMMI focus on family systems, they have a particular interest in proposals which include circular questioning, cosmopolitan communication, and other uses of the CMM body of theory which engage structural change in thinking around patterns of social engagement.

Aarhus Institute for Advanced Studies Fellowships (Denmark)

Up to 15 AIAS-COFUND fellowships are available for the most talented researchers from around the world and within all research disciplines and topics. The scheme is funded by the European Union’s Horizon 2020 Research and Innovation Programme under the Marie Skłodowska-Curie actions (grant agreement no 754513) and Aarhus University Research Foundation.

There are two types of fellowships:

* AIAS-COFUND Junior Fellowships for postdoctoral researchers with a career experience of 2-10 years. Duration from 12-36 months.
* AIAS-COFUND Senior Fellowships for researchers with a career experience of 10+ years. Duration from 6-18 months.

Who can apply? The target group of the Programme is talented researchers at all career stages with a PhD and a minimum of two years of full-time postdoctoral research experience at the time of the application deadline

Hearst Fellowship (Remote in 2021)

The Aspen Institute Program on Philanthropy and Social Innovation (PSI) in Washington, DC offers the William Randolph Hearst Endowed Fellowship to one student three times annually. The fellowship, which is based on academic excellence and need, is open to both undergraduate and graduate students of color. The Hearst Fellow serves as an intern with PSI in the Washington, DC office of the Aspen Institute. Through this fellowship, PSI seeks to introduce a diverse group of students to issues and challenges affecting philanthropy, social enterprise, nonprofit organizations, and other actors in the social sector. Recipients may arrange with their colleges or universities to receive academic credit for this experience.

The Aspen Institute Program on Philanthropy and Social Innovation seeks to inform and maximize the impact of grantmaking foundations, nonprofit organizations, social enterprises, and public-private partnerships through leadership development initiatives, convenings, and communications so that each can contribute to the good society at home and abroad.

Activities: In his/her/their internship, the Hearst Fellow undertakes research, writing, logistical, and administrative support for PSI’s leadership initiatives, public programs, and convenings. The Hearst Fellow normally serves as an intern with PSI in the Washington, DC office of the Aspen Institute, however, the Spring 2021 Fellow will work remotely. Fall and Winter/Spring fellows will work part-time (10-15 hours per week) and Summer fellows will be full-time. All travel and housing costs must be covered by the student.

Fellowships for Research in India

The American Institute of Indian Studies announces its 2020 fellowship competition and invites applications from scholars who wish to conduct their research in India. Junior fellowships are awarded to Ph.D. candidates to conduct research for their dissertations in India for up to eleven months. Senior fellowships are awarded to scholars who hold the Ph.D. degree for up to nine months of research in India. The AIIS also welcomes applications for its performing and creative arts fellowships from accomplished practitioners of the arts of India.

• Junior Fellowships are for graduate students conducting research for their doctoral dissertations in India.

• Senior Long- and Short-term Fellowships are for those holding the PhD degree.


• Performing and Creative Arts Fellowships are available to accomplished practitioners of the arts to conduct their projects in India.

The AIIS fellowship competition is not restricted to those from its member institutions. Non-U.S. citizens may apply as long as they are either graduate students or full-time faculty at colleges and universities in the United States. Approximately 35 fellowships are awarded each year.

AIIS also offers intensive, immersion-based language training in India to students from American universities. Summer and academic year programs focus on language acquisition and cultural understanding.
