French Institutes for Advanced Study: Fellowships 2023-24 (France)

The French Institutes for Advanced Study Fellowship Programme offers 10-month fellowships in the six Institutes of Aix-Marseille, Loire Valley (Orléans-Tours), Lyon, Montpellier, Nantes and Paris. It welcomes applications from high-level international scholars to develop their innovative research projects in France. For the 2023-2024 academic year, FIAS offers 37 fellowship positions: 4 in Aix-Marseille, 3 in Loire Valley (Orléans-Tours), 10 in Lyon, 3 in Montpellier, 4 in Nantes, and 13 in Paris.

The call is open to all disciplines in the social sciences and the humanities (SSH) and all research fields. Research projects in other sciences and in arts that propose a strong interaction and dialogue with the SSH are also eligible. Some host IAS have scientific priorities that need to be taken into full consideration before applying.

The FIAS fellows will be free to organize their research while benefiting from the support and conducive scientific environment offered by the IAS characterised by a multidisciplinary cohort of fellows and by close relation to the local research centres and laboratories.

CMMi: CosmoTeenz Fellows (USA)

The CMM Institute is offering Fellowships for 7-10 teens or young adults from different countries to work together to develop products, projects, and activities as part of the Institute’s CosmoTeenz program for 2022/2023. The goal is to enrich young peoples’ lives, create improved futures for the planet, and to help make better social worlds wherever we are at, whether school, work, or socially—any place where people meet, interact, and communicate. This includes communicating about difficult issues, such as exclusion, diversity, differences, mental health, sexual orientation, grief, and more. It means helping us to talk, live, and work well together, despite our differences.

Fellows will work together as a group for the duration of their Fellowship using Zoom and other online platforms to stay in touch and to work across time zone differences. They will be in mentoring relationships with members of the CMM Institute throughout the year, working on developing their final product(s). In conversation with CMM mentors, the group of Fellows will decide how often they will meet and how best to structure their meetings and work together. There will be a US $500 personal grant for each Fellow, as well as up to $15,000 USD (in consultation with the CMM Institute) for the group to put towards whatever they develop from June 2022 to June 2023.

Dublin City U: Doctoral Scholarships 2022: Applied Language & Intercultural Studies (Ireland)

The School of Applied Language and Intercultural Studies (SALIS) is a multilingual, multicultural, research-focused school with specialisms in Modern Languages (Chinese, English, French, German, Japanese and Spanish); Applied Linguistics; Translation Studies; Literary Studies; Migration Studies; Sexuality Studies; and Cultural and Intercultural Studies. The research frequently crosses disciplinary and linguistic boundaries and our scholarship is increasingly concerned with digital technologies, literacies, and practises in a variety of professional, academic and social contexts.

As part of the commitment to ensuring ongoing excellence in doctoral-level research, SALIS is pleased to offer a number of scholarships for full-time PhD students. The scholarships will commence on the 1st October, 2022. Successful candidates will receive a stipend of €16,500 per annum for up to four years, subject to satisfactory annual progression. Registration fees will also be paid.

They are particularly interested in receiving research proposals in the following areas: Applied Linguistics; Cultural Studies; Intercultural and Migration Studies; Literary and Sexuality Studies; Translation Studies; Interdisciplinary Research.

NOTE: There are also four full interdisciplinary PhD Scholarships on the broad topic of “Conflict” on offer in the Faculty of Humanities and Social Sciences

U Notre Dame: Visiting Research Fellowships for 2022-23 (USA)

Each year, the Kroc Institute’s Visiting Research Fellows Program brings outstanding scholars focused on peace research to the University of Notre Dame for a semester or a full academic year. The Institute particularly seeks scholars who will actively integrate their research with ongoing Kroc research initiatives. Applicants must have completed a doctoral, or equivalent, degree (with the exception of the Alumni Visiting Research Fellow). Visiting Fellow Openings for 2022-23 will emphasize several specific areas:

John Carter Brown Library: Multiple Fellowships 2022-23 (USA and Online)

The John Carter Brown Library (an independent library on the campus of Brown University, in Providence, Rhode Island) awards over forty fellowships annually to scholars engaged in research the history of the colonial Americas, North and South, including all aspects of African, European, and Native American engagements in both global and comparative contexts.

During the pandemic, the JCB will award both residential and remote fellowship support. There is a wide variety of opportunities: short-term (2-4 months), long-term (5-10 months), fellowships for researchers in Mexico (2-4 months), remote short-term (2-4 months), and more.

U Victoria Centre for Global Studies Fellowships 2022-23 (Canada)

The Centre for Global Studies at the University of Victoria offers multiple fellowships. Most are for their own students and faculty, but there are several sorts available to international graduate students and faculty. Specifically:

Visiting Graduate Student / Postdoctoral Researcher: These fellowships support students in the research stages of their program. The CFGS promotes critical citizenship in a complex and rapidly changing global environment including the advancement and understanding of major global issues by civil society, the private sector, governments, and international institutions. Students are invited to apply who are engaged in similar topics of a global dimension. These topics may include, but are not limited to: global governance, international environmental challenges, social and ecological justice issues, and culture and identity. Applications from all disciplinary backgrounds are welcome.

Visiting Researcher Fellowship: The purpose of the fellowship is to provide research space and an environment conducive to writing and reflection to scholars working on research projects in the area of global studies. The fellowships are open to Canadian and international scholars; emeritus scholars; new scholars; scholars on sabbatical leave from their regular academic appointments. Consideration will also be given to professionals in NGOs and other related fields.

DEA Program Fellowships (France)

Created in 1975 through the initiative of Fernand Braudel, in agreement with the Secretary of State for Universities, Directorate of Higher Education and Research, the Associate Directors of Studies (DEA) program is the oldest international mobility program of the Fondation Maison des Sciences de l’Homme. It enables foreign scientific professionals from all continents to be invited for a period of four to six weeks to support their work in the SHS in France, as well as to promote creation of international research networks and contact with researchers on site.

The program is intended exclusively for holders of university professorships or equivalent positions in higher education and research institutions. Candidates must be under 65 years of age at the time of their stay. Priority is given to projects requiring fieldwork (surveys, work in libraries or archives, etc.) in France. Any application for the exclusive purpose of writing an article or a book will not be considered. Financial support (transportation and living expenses) is provided for 4-6 week stays, as well as support for visa applications and logistics (accommodation and access to libraries).

 

German Chancellor Fellowships (Germany)

The German Chancellor Fellowship sponsors future decision-makers, multipliers and thought leaders – regardless of industry. You are invited to apply if you:

  • hold Brazilian, Chinese, Indian, Russian, South African or American citizenship
  • work in a field such as politics, business, media, administration, society or culture and have demonstrable initial leadership experience
  • will have completed your first academic degree (Bachelor or comparable degree) no more than twelve years ago. The key date for calculating this twelve-year period is 1 October of the year in which the selection is made.
  • want to conduct an independently developed project with a host of your choice in Germany
  • have good knowledge of English and/or German

Howard U: Rangel Fellowships in Foreign Service (USA)

The Rangel Graduate Fellowship is a program that aims to attract and prepare outstanding young people for careers in the Foreign Service of the U.S. Department of State in which they can help formulate, represent, and implement U.S. foreign policy. The Rangel Program selects outstanding Rangel Fellows annually in a highly competitive nationwide process and supports them through two years of graduate study, internships, mentoring, and professional development activities. This program encourages the application of members of minority groups historically underrepresented in the Foreign Service, women, and those with financial need. Fellows who successfully complete the program and Foreign Service entry requirements will receive appointments as Foreign Service Officers, in accordance with applicable law and State Department policy.

Applicants must be US citizens seeking admission to enter graduate school in the fall of 2022 for a two-year program at a U.S. university in an area of relevance to the Foreign Service. They can be in the senior year of their undergraduate studies, graduating by June 2022, or they can be college graduates.

Gettysburg College: Peace & Justice Fellowships (USA)

Are you an emerging leader working on issues of peace and justice? Join the first class of Peace and Justice Transformative Leaders! Organizers are thrilled to introduce this unique fellowship that identifies and amplifies the skills and visions of emerging, undergraduate peace and justice leaders. Held by the Consortium of North American Peace Programs and sponsored by the Gettysburg College Peace and Justice Studies Program, and the Garthwait Leadership Center at Gettysburg College, this fellowship is the first of its kind. All undergraduate students (from Canada, the US, and Mexico) with at least one academic year remaining in their education, upon completion of the fellowship, are eligible to apply.

Selected fellows will be invited to Gettysburg College for a week of intensive programming designed to develop their leadership skills in the realm of peace and justice work. From January 8th through January 14th, 2022, fellows will meet with academics and practitioners to learn tangible skills and create their own social change projects. Fellows will be expected to implement their own projects upon completion of the fellowship. Selected fellows will have all expenses paid to attend the week of programming in January of 2022, including accommodation, transportation, and meals.
