The main theme of CLC6 is the charting of the relationship between plurilingualism, linguistic variation, hybrid linguistic performances and alternative literacies. The hybridity and superdiversity of the contemporary linguistic landscape has been long acknowledged. Do language pedagogies treat language as a complex semiotic resource? Do such pedagogies forge links between pluri- or multilingualism, linguistic variation, translanguaging and alternative literacy practices within and outside of the school context? Do such extant models ultimately debunk dominant literacy policies and practices?

Τhe languages of the conference are English and Greek.

Craig and Boguslawa Dobek-Ostrowska. The theme of the 7th Annual International Conference on Ethnic and Religious Conflict Resolution and Peacebuilding is Ethnic, Racial and Religious Conflicts Globally: Analysis, Research and Resolution. To increase understanding of ethnic, racial and religious conflicts in different countries around the world, the conference will consider submissions from multidisciplinary fields of study and practice. Qualitative, quantitative or mixed methods research studies from university scholars and researchers are accepted. Case studies, lessons learned, success stories, policy analysis or design, and best practices from policy makers, practitioners, and indigenous peoples are also accepted. Successful abstracts or full papers shall not only bridge theory, method and practice, but must include findings and recommendations designed to further understanding and inform practical application.

Policy Studies Organization and The Digest of Middle East Studies have announced the official call for proposals for our annual Middle East Dialogue 2020. The event aims to promote dialogue about current policy concerns in the Middle East, and to provide a civil space for discussion across the religious and political spectrum. The goal is to bring together scholars, policy-makers, and other leaders within the global and local community to respectfully, and productively, discuss the diverse range of issues affecting the region. The conference is co-sponsored by Rice University, American Public University System, the Next Century Foundation, and the Capital Communications Group.

CFP IAMCR 2020: Reimagining the Digital Future (China)

The International Association for Media and Communication Research (IAMCR) invites the submission of abstracts of papers and proposals for panels for the 2020 Congress of the Association, which will be held from 12 to 16 July, 2020 at Tsinghua University in Beijing, China.

At the critical juncture of the second decade of the 21st century, the world is facing tremendous challenges. The past three decades of cultural, economic and communication globalisation have created sharp income and wealth inequities, a divisive international community, dysfunctional media, an increasingly fragmented digital culture and an accelerating environmental crisis. We witness growing populism and protectionism and a dissolving consensus on global engagement and international collaboration. We see deepening technological contestation in digital media and artificial intelligence between the world’s two economic powerhouses. We also witness a sharp decline of the quality of national and international information flows as a result of widespread misinformation facilitated by social media.

These developments pose urgent questions and challenges for media and communications scholars. What are the reasons for the division, gaps and fragmentation we now see? What roles have digital media communication played in these developments at both the local and global levels? What values should inform our proposals for addressing them?

This year’s conference aims to respond to those challenges by re-examining the roles and patterns of global communication while including local voices, seeking critical reflections on the relationship between them, and exploring feasible agendas for a shared digital future based on inclusiveness, respect and reciprocity.

CFP History of Recent Social Science (Canada)

This two-day conference of the Society for the History of Recent Social Science will bring together researchers working on the history of post-World War II social science. It will provide a forum for the latest research on the cross-disciplinary history of the post-war social sciences, including but not limited to anthropology, economics, psychology, political science, and sociology as well as related fields like area studies, communication studies, history, international relations, law, and linguistics. The conference aims to build upon the recent emergence of work and conversation on cross-disciplinary themes in the postwar history of the social sciences.

The two-day conference will be organized as a series of one-hour, single-paper sessions attended by all participants. Ample time will be set aside for intellectual exchange between presenters and attendees, as all participants are expected to read pre-circulated papers in advance.
