Malta Biennial: Intercultural Dialogue (2024)

Events

Redazione. (13 March 2024). Malta’s first biennial opened under the banner of intercultural dialogue. Finestre sull’Arte.

“The first Malta Biennial…March 13 to May 31, 2024…focuses on themes such as intercultural dialogue, migration, colonial history, the environment, and memory.

In an era marked by global challenges and tensions, the Biennale aims to stand as a beacon of hope, using culture and art as a bridge to a more harmonious and inclusive future. The works on display thus explore crucial themes such as migration, colonial history, the environment and memory, urging the viewer to think critically and participatively about the most pressing issues of our time.

This Biennale is not only meant to be a celebration of contemporary art, but also a statement of intent and a concrete commitment to promoting intercultural dialogue and global solidarity through artistic expression. With its rich history and unique location in the heart of the Mediterranean, Malta has always been an important center of creativity and innovation, a crossroads of cultures and identities that intertwine and mutually enrich each other. Against this backdrop, the Malta Art Biennale aims to reaffirm the crucial role of art in shaping our world in profound and meaningful ways, inviting the public to consider the issues, of urgent relevance, that artists raise through their works.”

Looking for Women Activists in the Philippines

“Collaborative

The following message is posted at the request of Dr. Lora Forsythe, at the Natural Resources Institute, Faculty of Engineering and Science, of the University of Greenwich, UK. Deadline: 6 April 2024.

“I am currently working on a grant proposal to the British Academy for research in the Philippines and Brazil. We already have a partner in the Philippines (Center for Agrarian Reform and Rural Development) but this grant is research focused, so ideally we are looking for an academic (with a PhD) who can work with us on our study on women activists in the Philippines, and how they are engaging with issues around climate change. Our previous research has involved indigenous women, but we are not sure yet if we will choose to focus specifically on indigenous women or women more broadly.”

Empowering Remote-Ready Graduates: The Transformative Role of Virtual Exchange in Career-Oriented Education. Guest post by Eithne Knappitsch.

The integration of Virtual Exchange (VE) and Collaborative Online International Learning (COIL) into career-oriented education represents a significant evolution in preparing students for the modern workforce. These innovative educational models not only bridge geographical and cultural gaps, offering a responsible form of international exchange, but also align closely with the shift towards competency-based learning, equipping students with the necessary skills and competencies for remote work and leadership in virtual teams. Recent studies indicate that Higher Educational Institution (HEI) educators are increasingly aware of the potential of VE in contributing to innovation and skills development.
