The Levin Junior Research Fellowship in Peace Studies, University of Oxford, Oxford, UK. Deadline: 7 April 2025.

This Junior Research Fellowship (JRF) at Lady Margaret Hall (LMH) is intended as a career development post for an early career academic. It provides a three-year opportunity to develop independent research alongside gaining some experience and training in tutorial teaching. The successful applicant will be provided with a mentor, who will offer career guidance and general advice.

The person appointed would be expected to conduct significant research and teaching in the field of non-violent conflict resolution, broadly defined. They would be expected to undertake research that will have a substantial empirical component in the field. The research should have practical as well as academic impact in their subject area, and that will inform policymaking of the professionals working in the area. The person appointed will be expected to undertake up to three hours a week of undergraduate tutorial teaching in International Relations (for LMH during the three 8-week terms). S/he will help with the organisation and promotion of teaching and research in International Relations at LMH and will play a full role in the intellectual and social life of the College. The College would also encourage the Research Fellow to engage with the academic activities of the Department of Politics and International Relations.

The Humanities Division at the University of Oxford is inviting expressions of interest from candidates wishing to apply for an EU Marie Skłodowska-Curie European Postdoctoral Fellowship to be based in one of the Humanities Faculties. Candidates selected will be provided with support to develop and submit their applications to the EU.

Candidates need to check carefully the detailed guidance for the scheme to ensure you are eligible. Broadly, these are:

*You should have a doctoral degree by the time of the deadline for applications (11 Sept 2024).
*You must have a maximum of eight years’ experience in research, from the date of the award of their PhD degree.
*You must not have resided or carried out their main activity (work, studies, etc.) in the UK for more than 12 months in the 36 months immediately before the call deadline.

Interested candidates should contact a potential supervisor in the relevant Humanities Faculty as soon as possible. Supervisors need to be permanent post-holders in the Faculty in question, and all Expressions of Interest must have the agreement and confirmed support from a supervisor.

Note that the Humanities Division does not support Global Postdoctoral Fellowships.

The Department of Politics and International Relations in association with Exeter College are recruiting to the post of Associate Professor of International Relations to start from 1 September 2024 or as soon as possible thereafter. Applications are welcome from both early career and established scholars in any sub-field of international relations. However, the Department has particular needs at present in historical international relations, the international relations of the Middle East, Africa, Latin America, Russia and the Post-Soviet space, international law, and the international politics of the environment.

The successful candidate will be required to carry out advanced research in the field and to develop courses and provide teaching and supervision to undergraduate and graduate students; they will be expected to provide and organize undergraduate teaching for one or more of the Department’s undergraduate papers in International Relations; to contribute to the core paper of the MPhil in International Relations; to supervise graduate students in the Department’s MPhil and DPhil programmes in International Relations; to deliver undergraduate tutorial or small-group teaching in Exeter College; and to participate in academic administration, examining and assessment, the admission of students to the Department and College, and in the governance of the Department and the College.

The post will be held in conjunction with a Tutorial Fellowship at Exeter College.

AfOx Visiting Fellowship Programme (UK)

The AfOx Visiting Fellowship Programme is designed to allow exceptional African researchers to build international networks and focus on a project of their choice in collaboration with Oxford-based scholars. The Fellowship is open to researchers across all academic fields. Fellows will be affiliated with the University of Oxford for 12 months, including ten months of virtual engagement and a two month in-person visit to Oxford during Trinity Term. To apply for a fellowship, all applicants must have an Oxford-based researcher named as their collaborator on their application. AfOx Fellows will be asked to select which of the AfOx research themes, Healthy People, Innovation for Prosperity, Integrated Societies and Green Futures, their project most closely aligns with.

  1. Departmental Lecturer in Migration and DevelopmentThe Oxford Department of International Development (ODID) is seeking to appoint a Departmental Lecturer in Migration and Development. This is a fixed-term role for three academic years needed to cover the research leave of one member of the teaching team of the MSc in Migration Studies, a degree jointly run by ODID and Oxford’s School of Anthropology (SAME). The post holder will also have the opportunity to be appointed to a Supernumerary fellowship at Wolfson College.

The successful applicant will hold or will be close to completion of a PhD/DPhil in a relevant social sciences discipline, with a strong focus on migration studies. They will have significant research and teaching experience in the field of migration and development, broadly understood, with an interest in the Global South; the ability to teach high-achieving and challenging graduate students in a multi-disciplinary environment, to carry out student assessment, examination and course design; an academic publication record commensurate with stage of career; the ability to work effectively in a multi-disciplinary team, to meet challenging deadlines, to contribute effectively to the administrative work of the department and to present research findings effectively to fellow professionals or other informed members of the public.

2. Andrew W Mellon Associate Professorship of International Human Rights and Refugee Law

The Oxford Department of International Development (ODID), in association with St Antony’s College, is seeking to appoint an Associate Professor of International Human Rights and Refugee Law. The successful candidate will be expected to develop courses and provide teaching to graduates, specifically, to teach international human rights and refugee law, supervise, and examine on the MSc in Refugee and Forced Migration Studies; to contribute to the organisation of the Refugee Studies Centre, and to play a part in the administrative work of the Department and the College.

An Associate Professorship is the main academic career grade at Oxford with a focus on research and teaching, spanning the full range of professorial grades in the USA. Applications are welcome from both early career and established scholars with experience of inter-disciplinary working, in particular the ability to supervise graduate level work from across disciplines, in the broad area of refugee and forced migration studies. Applicants should have completed a doctorate in law or a closely related discipline with a strong emphasis on international human rights and/or refugee law, and should demonstrate an outstanding research and publication record and potential in international law, commensurate with stage of academic career.

The Oxford Department of International Development is seeking to recruit a Project Coordinator for the Refugee-Led Research Hub (RLRH). RLRH is an initiative of the Refugee Studies Centre (RSC) at the University of Oxford.
