A NIAS-Lorentz Theme Group (NLTG) is an international team of three researchers, including a coordinator, who come together for a five-month period at the Netherlands Institute for Advanced Study (NIAS) to pursue collaborative, interdisciplinary research.

The group conducts cutting-edge work that bridges the divide between the humanities and/or social sciences and the natural and/or technological sciences. Their collaboration often results in concrete outputs such as an edited volume, scientific publication, or a proposal for external funding (e.g. ERC).

The NLTG is particularly intended for early to mid-career researchers who wish to explore and establish new interdisciplinary fields of research through close interaction with colleagues from other academic disciplines.

Team Format: A group of three researchers (including the coordinator), working together for five consecutive months at NIAS in Amsterdam.

Timing: The NLTG takes place in the second semester of the academic year 2026 – 2027 (February–June 2027).

French Institutes for Advanced Study: Fellowships 2026-27 (France)

The French Institutes for Advanced Study Fellowship Programme (FIAS-FP) offers 10-month fellowships in the seven Institutes of Aix-Marseille, Loire Valley (Orléans-Tours), Lyon, Montpellier, Nantes, Paris and Rennes. It welcomes applications from high-level international scholars to develop their innovative research projects in France. For the 2026-2027 academic year, FIAS offers 28 fellowships of 10 months: 7 in Aix-Marseille, 2 in Loire Valley (Orléans-Tours), 3 in Lyon, 2 in Montpellier, 4 in Nantes, 7 in Paris and 3 in Cergy.

This call is open to all disciplines in the social sciences and the humanities (SSH) and to all other research fields interfacing with the SSH. Applicants are strongly encouraged to consult the webpages of the host Institutes for Advanced Study (IAS) to learn more about their specific scientific priorities, areas of focus, and institutional partners, as these should be carefully considered before applying.

FIAS Fellows will benefit from the support and stimulating scientific environment offered by the IAS, characterized by a multidisciplinary cohort of fellows and strong connections to local research centers and laboratories. They will be free to organize their work and conduct research according to their own priorities and interests.

FIAS awards fellowships to outstanding researchers of all career levels, from postdoctoral researchers to senior scientists. The minimum requirement is a PhD + 2 years of research experience at the time of the application (PhD training period will not be considered in the calculation of experience). Researchers from all countries are eligible to the FIAS Fellowship Programme but they must have spent no more than 12 months in France during the three years prior to the application deadline.

CIDOB: Programa Talent Global 2025 (Spain)

The Banco Sabadell Foundation and CIDOB (Barcelona Center for International Affairs) launch the fourth edition of the Programa Talent Global with the aim of promoting quality research by young researchers, through a paid research stay and two awards for applied research. The Junior Visiting Fellowship is aimed at two young researchers up to the age of 30 who have demonstrated research capabilities and would join CIDOB’s research team for a period of six months through a paid research stay.

Association of International Cultural and Educational Exchange: TEACH Fellowship 2025-26 (Taiwan)

The TEACH Fellowship was launched in Taiwan in 2023 by the Association of International Cultural and Educational Exchange Taiwan (AICEE). TEACH Fellowship invites enthusiastic teachers to teach English in K-12 schools in Taiwan to create an immersed bilingual and cultural learning environment for Taiwanese students and to enhance cultural and educational exchanges between Taiwan and the world. Teachers from the following countries are eligible: United States, Canada, United Kingdom, Australia, Ireland, New Zealand.

The program objectives are to:

Create an English language and cultural environment to enhance English listening, speaking, reading, and writing skills of elementary and secondary students in Taiwan.

Develop innovative English language curriculum and effective teaching methods through collaboration between native English speaking and Taiwanese educators.

Promote cross-cultural exchange and mutual understanding while enhancing multicultural competency of teachers and local residents.

FMSH: Themis Programme: US Scholars (France)

FellowshipsThemis Mobility Programme: Researchers residing in the United States, Fondation Maison des Sciences de l’Homme (FMSH), Paris, France. Deadline: 30 June 2025.

Given the current context in the United States, the Fondation Maison des Sciences de l’Homme (FMSH) is creating a specific programme of mobility grants to France for researchers residing in the United States. Launched as part of the Themis mobility programme, active for the past three years, this call aims to support intellectuals operating in environments marked by obstacles to academic freedom. It offers a 2- to 3-month research stay in France, enabling selected candidates to pursue their work in the humanities and social sciences—whether through fieldwork, library research, or archival investigations—within a free and intellectually stimulating academic environment.

Target Audience: Researchers currently residing in the United States. Status and Diploma: Applicants must be attached to a private or public higher education research institution / research institute and hold a research doctorate. Candidates must be under 65 years of age at the time of their stay. Discipline: candidates must be engaged in research in the humanities and social sciences. French Host Institution: Before submitting their application, applicants will have to find a French research institution to host them for the time of their stay.

Marjorie Boulton Fellowships 2025 (USA)

The Esperantic Studies Foundation (ESF) announces its 2025 competition for research fellowships in all fields of the humanities and social sciences, particularly as they relate to interlinguistics, linguistic justice, intercultural communication, Esperanto, and related phenomena. Interdisciplinary work is welcome, and primary disciplines might include, but are not limited to, linguistics, sociology, history, anthropology, communication, or media studies. Open to candidates worldwide, with a preference for candidates in North America and the global south, the fellowships may be held concurrently with other awards or fellowships and are non-renewable.

Awards of $10,000 USD may be given in each of two categories: Doctoral and Post-doctoral research. See below for eligibility requirements.

Category 1. Doctoral Research for students engaged in or about to begin their doctoral dissertations. Eligibility: Applicants must be admitted to candidacy for a research doctoral degree at an accredited university, in good standing in their programs, and considering or embarked on an original research project that will make a significant contribution to the field.

Category 2. Post-doctoral Research for scholars who have recently completed their dissertations, to support related research and publication. Eligibility: Applicants must be no more than five years beyond receiving the Ph.D and propose an original, significant research project; it can be either an extension of the dissertation or a new program of research.

U Hong Kong: Global South Fellowship (Hong Kong)

University of Hong Kong Global South Fellowship 2025

Launched in 2025 by the Faculty of Social Sciences at The University of Hong Kong (HKU), the HKU Social Sciences Global South Fellowship Scheme is designed to foster vibrant knowledge exchange and collaboration among scholars and researchers from the Global South, enhancing the Faculty’s global academic impact. Fellows will have the opportunity to visit HKU’s Faculty of Social Sciences and engage in knowledge-sharing activities, promoting cross-cultural learning and partnerships. Apply now for visits during the upcoming fall semester (September 2025 to January 2026).

Eligibility: Open to professoriate-level scholars affiliated with universities or comparable institutions in the Global South region.

Duration and Timing: Fellowships last one to three months, during either the fall semester (September to January) or the spring semester (February to June). The deadline for the spring semester will be at the end of November.

Sharing Language Diversity Fellowship 2025 (USA)

The Endangered Language Fund (ELF) is pleased to announce the Sharing Language Diversity Fellowship. The Fellowship is meant to support the research of Ph.D. students who have completed two years of study in a graduate program in Linguistics and related disciplines, and who are engaged in the documentation of Indigenous languages and the archiving of linguistic data as part of their PhD graduate studies.

The primary purpose of this fellowship is to encourage emerging linguists, in collaboration with their Indigenous partners, to responsibly share annotated materials in a sustainable public forum for equitable access to ongoing and finished research, both for community members and for other scholars. This fellowship aims to create a culture of archiving and Open Access sharing in linguistics, as is common in many other disciplines. In the interests of equity and discovery, the grant is meant to contribute to the normalizing of the archiving of language and cultural materials in trusted repositories on an ongoing basis and making not just results but also data freely accessible to the public, with appropriate community approval.

Institute of Current World Affairs: Fellowships 2026-28

ICWA advances deep understanding of global cultures and affairs by sending outstanding young professionals on independent writing fellowships abroad. Fellows submit monthly dispatches about their research, travel and life during two years of cultural immersion. Many go on to become leaders in their fields.

In a letter of interest, you would write up a description of you would do if you had a two-year, self-designed writing fellowship overseas and why you’re the right person to carry it out. There is no fixed length for the letter. The deadline for submitting an initial letter of interest is June 15, 2025. Selected candidates will be invited to submit a full application. The final fellowship selection will be made in mid-November. New fellows are expected to begin within six months.

The Centre for Advanced Study inherit. heritage in transformation, a BMBF-funded Käte Hamburger Kolleg based at Humboldt-Universität zu Berlin, is pleased to invite applications for its fellowship program, which will run from 1 October 2026 to 31 July 2027. This opportunity is open to both experienced and early-career postdoctoral researchers, as well as artists, filmmakers, and curators.
