Call for New Editor: Comparative Education Review

The Comparative and International Education Society (CIES), through the Standing Committee on Publications, calls for proposals for an editor(s) and editorial team for the Comparative Education Review. The new editor or coeditors will assume a five-year term, beginning on July 1 2023, and with responsibility for CER issues beginning in February 2024.

Proposals from the prospective editor/co-editors are encouraged to address: Their vision for the future of CER and its intellectual support of CIES membership and comparative and international research on education in general. A proposal should also present ideas for special issues, forums, debates, and innovative ways to disseminate the journal’s content including on social media platforms, create opportunities for mentorship of junior scholars as well as strategies further to increase CER’s scholarly impact. The proposal should include a description of the proposed editorial team and explain how it will ensure diversity of intellectual perspectives in the field, maintain the methodological strength of CIES scholarship, and support representation of current and emerging content areas and regions of the world.

Call for New Editor: Communication Theory

The International Communication Association Publications Committee is soliciting applications for the next editor(s) of Communication Theory. The four-year term will begin in September 2023.
Communication Theory publishes research articles, theoretical essays, and reviews on topics of broad theoretical interest from across the range of communication studies. Essays, regardless of topic or methodological approach, must make a significant contribution to communication theory. Data-based papers are appropriate only insofar as they advance new theoretical developments in communication. Communication Theory recognizes that approaches to theory development and explication are diverse. No single approach or set of approaches is privileged.

The Publications Committee seeks applications from individuals or small teams of scholars from the ICA membership. The successful applicant(s) will be expected to build an editorial structure that reflects the tremendous diversity of the communication discipline around the globe. Multiple factors are considered when evaluating candidate applications, including, but not limited to:

  • Clear understanding of the mission of the journal
  • Clear articulation of an intellectual and operational vision for the journal
  • Demonstrated openness to a range of epistemologies and methodologies appropriate for the scope of the journal
  • Demonstrated interest and/or experience in theoretical development
  • Demonstrated interest and/or openness to interdisciplinary work
  • Demonstrated communication skills and diplomacy
  • Reputation and excellence of academic output
  • Editorial, managerial or administrative experience
  • Tenure or advanced rank
  • Institutional support
  • Team submissions should also demonstrate successful past collaboration and an articulation of how the workflow will be managed among team members.

Call for New Editors, Comparative Migration Studies 2022

The journal Comparative Migration Studies (CMS) invites applications for several new members of the Editorial Board. In particular, CMS invites non-European scholars working on migration and (migration-related) diversity from various disciplines, including sociology, demography, anthropology, political sciences, law, geography and economics.

Comparative Migration Studies is an international peer-reviewed journal that has been selected for inclusion in the Web of Science. CMS is associated with the IMISCOE Research Network. CMS distinguishes itself as a journal on three elements:

  • An explicit comparative orientation. They believe that a focus on comparative research can promote the theoretical development of migration studies. This can involve various types of comparative studies (between countries, groups, levels, historical periods).
  • A wide disciplinary angle. CMS aims to develop a wide disciplinary angle, such as political science, economics, law, history, demography, social geography, sociology, cultural studies, literature, psychology and anthropology.
  • An open access journal. They believe open access nowadays is the best way to get the widest possible exposure for the work published in our journal. Publishing your articles with CMS means that other scholars will have easy access to your work and will be more likely to actually read it and refer to it. Open access publishing is not without costs.

In order to develop the journal further, and to make sure that all relevant disciplines and methodological traditions are well represented, the editorial board will be expanded. They invite applications from scholars from various disciplines:

  • working in the field of migration studies
  • special interest in comparative research
  • quantitative research background

Being a member of the editorial board means that you will be involved in policymaking regarding the journal and that as editor you will be in charge of reviewing articles that are in your area of expertise (on average, a couple of hours per month).

Call for Nominations: Editor, Journal of Intercultural Communication Research 2022

The World Communication Association (WCA) is soliciting nominations for the editor of the Journal of Intercultural Communication Research (JICR). Self-nominations are welcome. The appointment is for 3 years, beginning on January 1, 2023. JICR publishes qualitative and quantitative research on interrelationships between culture and communication. Generally, research published in JICR emphasizes non-mediated contexts.

All manuscripts submitted for publication to the JICR are initially reviewed by the Editor for appropriate content and style. If approved by the Editor, manuscripts are then reviewed by two anonymous reviewers in a double-blind review process. Reviewers are chosen by the Editor based on their expertise with a submitted manuscript’s topic, methodology, and research foci. On special occasions or in special editions, the Editor may invite authors with a particular expertise to submit manuscripts for publication. In such cases, the publication decision rests with the Editor. Such manuscripts are designated as “Invited.”

A complete nomination package includes a letter of application from the candidate, which should include a mission statement for the editorship; the candidate’s vitae (CV); minimum of 2 letters of support from published scholars familiar with the candidate’s work, experience and suitability for the task of journal editing; and a letter of institutional support from the candidate’s home institution. The successful candidate will be a member of the Board of Directors of World Communication Association during the appointment term as Editor, and will be provided with some annual financial editorial support from the Association. Although the term begins on January 1, 2023, the successful candidate will work with the current editor during part of 2022 to facilitate the transition process.

The International Communication Association Publications Committee is soliciting nominations for editor of Human Communication Research to succeed John Courtright, whose terms ends at the close of 2016.  We expect the next editor will be appointed to a four-year term at the June ICA Board Meeting and begin receiving manuscripts shortly thereafter. A completed nomination package should include a letter from the candidate indicating a willingness to serve and a vision for the journal (including vision for use of Associate Editors), a CV, contact information for three references who are scholars familiar with the candidate’s work and skill set necessary to edit the journal, and a letter of institutional support from the candidate’s home institution.  Details about the editorship are available through the following links:

Human Communication Research concentrates on presenting empirical work in any area of human communication. The special brief of the journal is to advance understanding of human symbolic processes, so there is a strong emphasis on theory-driven research, the development of new theoretical models in communication, and the development of innovative methods for observing and measuring communication behavior. The journal has a broad social science focus, so it should appeal to scholars in communication from psychology, sociology, linguistics, and anthropology, as well as areas of communication science. The journal maintains a broad behavioral and social scientific focus but reflects no particular methodological or substantive bias.

Nominations should be submitted electronically by 1 December 2015. Self-nominations are welcomed.

In 2015, the ICA Publications Committee also expressed a willingness to consider editorial teams, in lieu of a single editor, for nomination. In such circumstances, an editorial team would need to provide an additional statement indicating the division of effort and management procedures the editorial team will establish, including a single chief editor for correspondence with the publisher.
