The Intercultural Communication Interest Group is requesting paper and panel submissions for the 116th Annual ECA Convention. The 2025 convention theme is Contemporary Problems, Creative Solutions, encouraging “submissions that interrogate the following:

  • How can Communication Studies scholarship, teaching, and practice provide creative solutions to contemporary societal, environmental, geopolitical, technological, and economic problems?
  • How can we best prepare undergraduate and graduate students to address these contemporary problems with creative solutions?
  • How can we extend Communication Studies scholarship, teaching, and practice to settings and situations outside our traditional contexts?

The Intercultural Communication Interest Group is devoted to the study and practice of representing, performing, and negotiating cultural identities in face-to-face interaction and mediated communication in cross-cultural and international contexts. The interest group welcomes submissions from scholars at all stages in their academic careers, especially those interested in integrating theory and practice in intercultural communication research.

As much of our work intersects with diverse voices and methodologies, organizers especially encourage proposals that can be co-sponsored by our colleagues in Voices of Diversity and Interpretation & Performance Studies. Some ideas for consideration include critical/cultural considerations, autoethnographic engagement, narrative methodological work, and performance pieces.

The The School of Communication at The Ohio State University invites applications for a 9-month full time tenure-track assistant professor position to begin August 2025. The successful applicant will teach courses related to interpersonal communication, organizational communication, group dynamics, and/or intercultural communication. Specific instructional needs include Communication & Conflict, Intro to Organizational Communication, Intercultural Communication, Information Technology & Organizations, Communication Dynamics in Groups, International Perspectives on Communication, and Media & Terrorism. The assistant professor will be expected to actively engage in scholarly work; the area of research is open. The Department of Communication at the University of Oklahoma invites applications for a full-time tenure-track assistant professor or associate professor (with tenure) position in intercultural, interethnic, or intergroup communication. They seek an outstanding scholar who will contribute to the department’s national reputation in intercultural communication and who has methodological expertise in quantitative, qualitative, or mixed research methods. Intercultural communication is a historic department strength.

The successful candidate should be an active scholar, with a clearly defined program of research that can make significant theoretical contributions to the intercultural communication discipline and a strong record of or potential for publication in refereed journals. Furthermore, the scholar’s research should help enhance the department’s program and contribute to the broader strategic vision of the Dodge Family College of Arts and Sciences and The University of Oklahoma. Interdisciplinary interests that could lead to collaborations across other departments and centers at the University are desirable, particularly if such initiatives lead to external funding that can enhance the university’s national profile. They seek a scholar-teacher whose background prepares them to serve as program director of a multi- section intercultural communication course that is a part of the General Education curriculum, along with teaching courses in their area of specialty.

Principal responsibilities of this position include:

  • Teaching courses that examine intercultural and international communication, both in its theoretical concepts, and its real-world application such as: intercultural communication competency, transcultural communication, cultural identity or cultural adaptation, impact of communication on diverse populations, use of communication to address social, cultural, and economic disparities, community outreach, audience analysis, intercultural communication and health science and behavior, and addressing at-risk communities.
