The Department of Political Science at the National University of Singapore invites application for one full-time tenure-track or tenured position in International Relations at the rank of full Professor or Associate Professor. They welcome applications from candidates working in all areas of the subfield, including but not limited to non-traditional security, human security, and gender and international relations. The Department of Languages, Cultures & Film wishes to appoint to a fixed-term Lectureship (Teaching and Scholarship) in World Cinema to provide cover for a colleague on a Leverhulme Fellowship. The successful candidate will be a key member of the Film Studies team, working with colleagues to maintain and enhance a thriving undergraduate programme, which has experienced significant growth and over recent years, and to help develop and deliver a new MA in Film Studies.

Applicants should have a PhD in Film Studies or a relevant related discipline and provide clear evidence of teaching experience in World Cinema (understood broadly, i.e. encompassing streaming and other platforms). Candidates should also be able to demonstrate sensitivity to diverse cultural contexts; a focus on transnational and intercultural approaches to Film Studies is what makes our degree programme in Liverpool unique and attractive, and the department actively encourages comparative, global, transnational, and transcultural approaches. Active engagement with scholarship in the field of Film Studies and/or World Cinema is expected, as is the demonstration of leadership in high-quality teaching innovations. The post is available from 1 September 2024 until 31 August 2025 working on a 0.9fte basis.

Professorship in Intercultural Communication with a Focus on Migration Studies, Friedrich Schiller University, Jena, Germany. Deadline: 9 June 2024.

The applicant (m/f/d) should have an excellent, relevant doctorate in the field of intercultural communication, in particular from a social or cultural science perspective or in related disciplines (e.g. sociology, political science, social or cultural geography). He/she should be able to represent the field of migration research/migration studies with a focus on intercultural communication in an outstanding manner, both in terms of expertise and methodology. The fundamental willingness to develop a second focus in the area of diversity and social diversification processes in research and teaching compatible with intercultural research is expected and is a prerequisite for the tenure track procedure. He/she/they should show potential for successful international publication activities as well as for highquality teaching in our Bachelor’s degree programmes “Intercultural Business Communication” and “Intercultural Music and Event Management” as well as in the Master’s degree programme “Intercultural Human Resources Development and Communication Management”, including its international doubledegree variants. The Department of Education, Communication & Society is seeking to recruit a social science scholar with teaching and research interests in anthropology, sociology, social policy or a closely allied field to teach on our BA Social Sciences and other programmes as appropriate and to conduct high quality research. They will have interests and a track record that enable them to convene Political Activism and Social Change and Rethinking Work, which are optional modules on the BA Social Sciences. They will be a member of the friendly and vibrant Centre for Public Policy Research (CPPR) within the School of Education, Communication and Society, which is a School in the Faculty of Social Science and Public Policy. Ideally, they will have interests that strengthen the existing programmes of work in CPPR. For example, candidates may have particular expertise in race and racism, decoloniality, or inequalities of gender, class, sexuality or disability.

Xi’an Jiaotong-Liverpool U: Linguistics (China)

The Department of Applied Linguistics is a research-intensive environment with two MA programmes: the MA in TESOL and MA in Applied Linguistics (with a Specialisation in Multilingualism), which also contributes a Linguistics pathway on four UG programmes. The appointee will be expected to contribute to the department’s research profile and should have an excellent track record of publication in their research area, appropriate to their stage of career. An ability and willingness to contribute to or lead collaborative and interdisciplinary research projects would be a strong advantage.

In terms of teaching, the successful candidate must be able to contribute widely to the Undergraduate or Postgraduate curricula, including at least three from the following (either PG or UG):

  • UG: Introduction to Linguistics: Grammar, Introduction to Linguistics: Discourse, English as a Global Language, History of English, Sounds of English, Language and Society, Semantics and Pragmatics, Syntax, Psycholinguistics, and Language and Gender.
  • PG: Introduction to Multilingualism, Multilingualism in Society, Linguistics for Language Teachers, Methods in English Language Teaching, Principles of Course and Materials Design, Second Language Acquisition, Language Testing and Assessment, Speaking and Listening, and Research Methods. MA Dissertation (TESOL or MA Applied Linguistics).

In addition, the ability to contribute a new module in either Forensic Linguistics or Computational Linguistics would be an advantage. Staff typically teach 1-1.5module(s) per semester, depending on student numbers. The typical contact hours are around 6 hours per week. A contribution to academic administration will also be expected.

The Department of Communication of the Faculty of Social Sciences invites applications for the position of Associate/Assistant Professor in cultural studies. They are looking for applicants qualified to teach in some of the following areas: popular culture, Macau and Hong Kong cultures, cultural and creative industries, cinema studies, qualitative research methods, discourse analysis, gender studies, and platform studies. A track record of high-quality research and publications is a must. Ability to develop new courses in new media will be highly desirable. Additional courses may be assigned to match the teaching needs of the department, faculty, and the University.

The Department of Communication currently offers broad-based curricula leading to Bachelor’s and Master’s degrees covering various areas of communication studies (communication theory, intercultural communication, organizational communication, communication skills); vocationally-oriented public communication (public relations, advertising, and event planning); media studies and journalism (journalism writing and publication, mass media, new media, digital culture); cultural studies (cultural and critical theory, cinema, and popular culture); public speaking; and creative media (video production, photography, and animation). The Department of Communication also has an active and successful PhD programme.

John Cabot University invites applications for a full-time visiting faculty position in International Relations and/or International Law. The appointment is for one year, beginning August 2024, and with possibility of renewal. They seek candidates with a Ph.D. in International Relations or International Law, demonstrated excellence in teaching and research, and commitment to academic service. The area of specialization is open, but preference will be given to applicants with an interdisciplinary expertise in the two above-mentioned areas. Special consideration will be given to candidates with expertise in Cybersecurity, Environmental Politics, Transatlantic Relations and US Politics, Food Security and International Development.

The ideal candidate should have familiarity and experience with the American liberal arts educational tradition, and be prepared to teach introductory courses (e.g., World Politics, International Organizations, International Law) as well as courses in their area of expertise. The teaching load is three courses per semester. Candidates are expected to be fluent in English, which is the language of instruction, and to have permission to work in the EU.

The University of Nevada, Las Vegas invites applications for a position at the Assistant or Associate Professor level in one or more departments or schools in the Greenspun College of Urban Affairs (GCUA) in the area Ethnic and Equity Studies with an emphasis in diversity, equity, inclusion, and belonging (DEI-B). The individual will facilitate college-level DEI-B initiatives.
