The Department of Communication and Language Studies at Bryant University invites applications for a full time, tenure track Assistant Professor position in Intercultural/International Communication, to help in two B.S. degrees of Communication and Digital Communication and Bryant’s newly revised General Education coursework. They seek a scholar-teacher whose background prepares them to serve as program director of a multi- section intercultural communication course that is a part of the General Education curriculum, along with teaching courses in their area of specialty.

Principal responsibilities of this position include:

  • Teaching courses that examine intercultural and international communication, both in its theoretical concepts, and its real-world application such as: intercultural communication competency, transcultural communication, cultural identity or cultural adaptation, impact of communication on diverse populations, use of communication to address social, cultural, and economic disparities, community outreach, audience analysis, intercultural communication and health science and behavior, and addressing at-risk communities.

  • Revision or creation of higher level courses in intercultural/international communication, as well as other courses that align with the candidate’s specific expertise.

  • Work collaboratively on research and programming with diverse educational departments.

  • Evidence of multidisciplinary research, community outreach initiatives, educational training initiatives, or student programming creation is preferred.

Auburn U: International Organizational Communication (USA)

Utah Tech U: Intercultural Communication (USA)

The Communication Department at Utah Tech University is seeking an enthusiastic and well-qualified individual for the tenure-track position of Assistant Professor of Communication, with an emphasis on intercultural communication, to begin Fall 2024 semester. Successful candidates will be comfortable teaching intercultural communication courses, along with various other intersections of identity-based communication (e.g., gender, globalization, and criticism). Special consideration will be paid to those who specialize in rhetorical/critical methods. The successful candidate also will coordinate the curriculum for the department’s foundational courses in the intercultural communication area. Tenure track faculty at UT teach a 4/4 teaching load. While the primary considerations for tenure at UT are currently teaching and service, having an active research trajectory with publications and/or conference presentations is a component of tenure and promotion.

Successful candidates will study race through any of a number of rhetorical perspectives (theory, criticism, history, or any combination of these approaches) and will demonstrate race is a central and animating focus of their scholarship and teaching in their application. Possible areas of study include but are not limited to racial rhetorical criticism, antiracism rhetorics, postracism, race and space/place/borders, intersectionality, whiteness, decolonizing rhetorical scholarship, and Latina/o/x rhetorics, Asian/Pacific American rhetorics, Black and/or African American rhetorics, and Indigenous and/or Native rhetorics, among others. This faculty member will develop new coursework in rhetoric and race at the undergraduate, M.A., and Ph.D. levels and will rotate with other faculty members to teach the department’s existing courses in rhetoric.
