U Wisconsin-Parkside Job: Public Relations & Intercultural

Job adsThe University of Wisconsin-Parkside seeks applications for a Tenure-Track Assistant Professor of Public Relations, scheduled to start in the 2018-2019 academic year. Deadline: November 27, 2017

The candidate’s main area of teaching and research should be in Public Relations; the ideal candidate will be able to contribute to growing our Public Relations area.  The department places a high value on issues of social justice and diversity as well as service-learning and seeks a colleague who can contribute to those emphases.  The successful candidate will be able to teach our courses in Public Relations, Internships, and Communication and the Human Condition, in addition to contributing to teaching our lower-level core courses and upper-level courses.  Ability to teach courses in conflict management, health communication, intercultural communication, and/or communication and ethnicity is a plus.  The primary responsibility of the position is teaching undergraduate students, including advising students (typical credit load for faculty members is 24-credits).  Faculty are also expected to contribute to scholarship through research publication and perform other duties as assigned.

The Middle East Directions (MED) programme, the Robert Schuman Centre for Advanced Studies (RSCAS) and the School of Transnational Governance (STG) at the European University Institute (EUI), are seeking applicants for a joint appointment as the Director of the MED Programme at the Robert Schuman Centre for Advanced Studies and the School of Transnational Governance.

The MED progamme is one of the newest research programmes at the Centre and is a priority for the EUI. The Programme is a continuation of the Mediterranean Programme, which positioned the EUI at the forefront of the Euro-Mediterranean research and dialogue between 1999 and 2013. The MED programme has the ambition to become an international reference point for research on the Middle East and North Africa Region. The programme focusses its research on the following axes: socio-political, economic, religious and security trends and transformations. The successful candidate will lead and coordinate a team that engages in research and active dialogue with the world of practice.

The post will be a joint appointment with the School of Transnational Governance at the EUI. Within the STG, the successful candidate will contribute to develop and, if applicable, lead the School’s relevant thematic cluster. The successful candidate is expected to run a summer school and additional offering in the field of executive training and modules suitable for inclusion in a Masters programme.

Harron Chair @ Villanova U 2018

Job adsThe Department of Communication at Villanova University invites applications for the annual Harron Family Endowed Chair in Communication. The Department seeks a senior colleague whose scholarship, regardless of specialization or methodological orientation, has made a significant contribution to the discipline of Communication. This visiting, one-semester appointment is for the Fall of 2018. University-sponsored housing will be provided for the duration of the appointment. The responsibilities of the position include teaching one undergraduate and one graduate course related to his/her area of expertise, delivering a lecture to the Villanova community during the semester in residence, and mentoring faculty and students in the Communication Department. In addition to the salary generated by the Endowment and University-sponsored housing, The Harron Family Endowed Chair in Communication is eligible to receive graduate assistant support and to apply for a grant of up to $10,000 from the Waterhouse Family Institute for the Study of Communication and Society. This visiting position may be used to supplement sabbatical leave, but the Department encourages all interested, qualified candidates to apply.

Weber State U Job: Global/Intercultural Communication (Utah)

Job adsThe Department of Communication at Weber State University in Ogden, Utah, invites applications for a tenure-track Assistant Professor of Global/Intercultural Communication and General Education who will begin Fall Semester 2018.

We seek a strong teacher and scholar with a critical and practical understanding of global/intercultural communication and the ability to teach our general education courses of Mass Media and Society, Public Speaking and/or Interpersonal and Small Group Communication. The successful candidate should expect to teach theoretical and applied courses at all levels of the undergraduate and master’s curricula in areas such as intercultural communication, communication theory, gender and communication, and interpersonal and conflict management. Our department is growing and updating curriculum so there may be the potential for expanding our offerings of intercultural/global communication courses and developing a Study Abroad program. The Department of Modern Languages, Linguistics, and Intercultural Communication at the University of Maryland, Baltimore County (UMBC) is filling a tenure-track position at the rank of Assistant or Associate Professor in intercultural communication. Candidates will be expected to have a comprehensive research agenda in intercultural communication. They should have in hand a PhD in intercultural communication or a closely related field, experience in intercultural training, and native or near-native proficiency in at least one of the following languages: Arabic, Chinese, French, German, Japanese, Korean, Russian or Spanish. The department has been a pioneer in incorporating intercultural communication into its language pedagogy, enriching both the fields of language pedagogy and intercultural communication. Teaching responsibilities will include courses in intercultural training, other areas of critical intercultural communication, and courses in the selected candidate’s language area at the undergraduate and graduate levels. The candidate will also participate in the supervision of theses and scholarly papers in the department’s interdisciplinary MA program in Intercultural Communication.
