One two-year postdoctoral position is available with the History of Social Science Group (H2S) at École normale supérieure de Cachan, France, starting October/December 2011.

We are currently looking to hire one postdoctoral fellow for a newly funded grant from the Agence nationale de la recherche (ANR) to study cross-disciplinary research ventures in postwar American social science.

Ohio U fellowship for Chinese students

The Scripps College of Communication at Ohio University seeks students from China to apply for Enlight Foundation Graduate Fellowships beginning in fall 2011 for admission in fall 2012.

The Enlight Foundation will fund multiple fellowships per year that provide master’s or PhD students an annual stipend of at least $12,000. The stipends will be accompanied by tuition waivers provided by Ohio University.

Eligibility criteria are:
*Status as full-time, degree-seeking students enrolled in or accepted for admission to Ohio University’s Scripps College of Communication graduate programs and receiving a grant or scholarship for the full tuition.
*Status as non-residents, non-citizens, or residents/citizens who have resided in the United States for five years or less prior to the first day of school of the year of application.
*Financial need.
*Cumulative grade point average of at least 3.5 at prior institutions attended, or a ranking within the top 10 percent of the applicant’s undergraduate class.
*Student must be from China.
Recipients will be chosen principally on the basis of their academic performance or potential. The fellowship may be renewed for up to three academic years, provided the recipients continue to meet eligibility criteria and make satisfactory progress toward a degree.

In addition to the stipend, recipients may seek up to $3,000 in research and instructional support.

The Department of Communication at Villanova University invites applications for the annual Margaret E. and Paul F. Harron Endowed Chair in Communication. The Department seeks a senior colleague whose scholarship, regardless of specialization or methodological orientation, has made a significant contribution to the discipline of Communication. This visiting, one-semester appointment is for the fall 2012. University-sponsored housing will be provided for the duration of the appointment. The responsibilities of the position include teaching one undergraduate and one graduate course related to his/her area of expertise, delivering a lecture to the Villanova community during the semester in residence, and mentoring faculty and students in the Communication Department. In addition to the salary generated by the Endowment and University-sponsored housing, The Margaret E. and Paul F. Harron Endowed Chair in Communication is eligible to receive graduate assistant support and to apply for a grant of up to $10,000 from the Waterhouse Family Institute for the Study of Communication and Society. The Department of Communication at the University of South Florida is pleased to announce its participation in the fourth year of USF’s Postdoctoral Scholars program in the social sciences and humanities. The over-arching theme for this year’s scholars is “Global Change in a Dynamic World.”

Postdoctoral Scholars are expected to (a) contribute to one or more of the priority goals of USF’s strategic plan, (b) work closely with distinguished faculty, (c) participate in an interdisciplinary and programmatic seminar series, (d) teach two courses over a twelve-month period, and (e) continue building an independent research record and publishing refereed scholarship.

Areas in which post doctoral scholars might work include (but are not limited to) sustainability; sustainable development; disaster management; population changes; technology and information issues; communication and language development; cultural diasporas; ethnicity, gender, and aging issues; cultural heritage and histories; citizenship; identity; health, economic, education, and environmental disparities; political economy; ethics; human rights; peace and conflict studies; injury and violence; and security issues. Specific research and geographical areas are open, and applicants may consider both past and contemporary perspectives.

Appointments are for full time employment (40 hours per week) and will be continued for a maximum of 2 years contingent upon satisfactory performance. The salary is $40,000 per year and the University contributes to a health insurance program for postdoctoral scholars and their dependents (up to $6,000). Support for travel to academic conferences will be available. Scholars are responsible for their relocation and housing expenses.

Applicants in communication must have earned a doctoral degree in communication no earlier than 2009 and successfully defended their dissertations by May 1, 2012.  The doctoral degree must be conferred prior to the first day of employment.  (Applicants must receive their doctoral degree from an institution other than USF.)

CELSA, the Graduate School of Journalism and Communications of the Sorbonne University, seeks an articulate and experienced native-English-speaking researcher to play a key role in curricular development and teaching in association with its languages department and degree programs.

The Graduate Fellowship position will be composed of 10-12 hours of work per week during the 2012-2013 academic year.  Coursework will be based on a combination of teaching (classroom and tutorial settings) and research on innovative forms of pedagogy, including case-study writing, to further the fellow’s professional development.  Fellows will also present their research plans and results to the academic community at least once during the year-long fellowship.  The monthly stipend for the position is €1,256.12 (after taxes) for the 12-month period based on a Contrat de Lecteur in the French national education system.

Ideal candidates will possess proven knowledge of the Information and Communication Sciences in an effort to promote a cross-cultural understanding of the field to students and colleagues.  The candidate must possess excellent written and spoken communication skills in English.  Successful candidates will be able to communicate in French in addition to being adept at using computer soft and hardware for innovative pedagogical applications. An advanced university degree, some teaching experience and specific research experience would also be assets.

U Waikato doctoral fellowships

The Department of Management Communication at the University of Waikato, Hamilton, New Zealand, is seeking two Doctoral Assistants to provide teaching assistance, tutoring, marking, and other teaching support.  These positions serve to support outstanding students as they pursue their PhD and to support the department in continuing its record of teaching and research excellence. Doctoral Assistants dedicate 20 hours of the week to supporting the department’s teaching and/or research goals, and the rest of the time to their own doctoral studies.

Salary will be NZ$49,793 per year, pro rata.  Doctoral Assistants will also receive a tuition waiver.  Applicants must first apply to enrol in the PhD programme at the University of Waikato. Post-Doctoral Research Fellowship in Intercultural Studies

Saint Louis University, a Catholic, Jesuit institution dedicated to student learning, research, health care, and service is seeking applicants for a Post-Doctoral Research Fellowship in Intercultural Studies, to begin Fall 2011 which is a two-year position with the second year renewal contingent on a satisfactory annual review.

We are looking for a candidate whose scholarly program is focused on issues of interculturality, with a strong interest in relevant methodology and theory. Eligible applicants will have worked on topics that span more than one discipline in humanities and social sciences. A demonstrated facility with a second language, if related to the candidate’s research, is desirable. The applicant must have a Ph.D. in hand before the date of entry for taking up the post-doctoral position. You will work with a team of researchers on a project entitled “Multidisciplinary Approaches to the Study of Interculturality,” under the supervision and mentorship of the project director. In this role, you will be expected to produce an extensive article on a topic related to the project (to be considered for publication in the project’s jointly authored volume), as well as present a publishable paper at its planned conference in 2013.

You will also participate in Saint Louis University’s academic and intellectual community by presenting the results of your research at symposia, colloquia, and faculty seminars, and assist the team in organizational matters.

Eligibility: Applicants, a maximum of TWO from each applying National Commission, must meet the following general criteria:
1. Candidates under this Programme must be post-graduate researchers, already holding either an M.A. or M.Sc. degree (or equivalent) and wishing to pursue research work abroad (preferably in their own region) with a view to enhancing knowledge in one of the four specific fields mentioned in paragraph D.1 below. Thus, those who are in the process of completing their Master’s degree must have completed it PRIOR to taking up their Fellowship.
2. Candidates must be persons of high intellectual promise who may be expected to make significant contributions to their country on return.
3. Candidates must be no more than 40 years of age. Thus, applicants born before 1 January 1972 will not be considered under the Programme.
