PHD Position in RePIM: Revisioning Public Interest Media, University of Tallinn, Estonia. Deadline: 29 June 2026.

The RePIM Doctoral Network is pleased to announce the reopening of the DC12 PhD position at Tallinn University (TLU), Estonia on 18 May 2026. This position is part of the Marie Skłodowska-Curie-funded project RePIM – Revisioning Public Interest Media, which brings together leading European universities and industry partners to explore the future of public interest media in a rapidly evolving, data-driven landscape.

The DC12 project, Audience Data Management and Performance Measurement in the Cross-Media Landscape, investigates how public interest media organisations can generate, manage and use audience data in ethical and effective ways. The research will address key challenges in transitioning from traditional broadcast metrics to cross-platform analytics, while maintaining the public value mission of media organisations. The doctoral candidate will contribute to developing innovative approaches to audience measurement and strategic decision-making in complex media ecosystems.

Tallinn University

On April 30, 2013, I met with several faculty members at the new Institute of Communication at Tallinn University in Tallinn, Estonia: Kaja Tampere, Professor and Founding Director of the Institute, and Josep Soler-Carbonell, Associate Professor of Intercultural Communication.

Tallinn University is in much the same situation as the University of Macau, interested in gaining an international reputation, and attracting international students. A new Communication Management master’s program started in the autumn of 2012, as well as a minor in International Journalism studies, both of which offer courses in English.

While in Tallinn, I also connected with Hando Sinisalu, Founder and CEO of Best Marketing International. He organizes international conferences on such topics as digital marketing. For those interested in using social media for marketing, his website provides wonderful case studies of best practices.

The old city of Tallinn is a UNESCO world heritage site, with buildings dated as early as the 1200s. But it also has a noticeable Art Nouveau influence, as can be seen in the Dragon Gallery.
