UNC Charlotte multicultural postdoctoral fellowship

The University of North Carolina Charlotte invites applications for our new Multicultural Postdoctoral Fellowship program to support its commitment to diversity, inclusion, and building a strong intellectual community of scholars from different backgrounds. The purpose of the Multicultural Postdoctoral Fellowship Program is to support the early development of scholars who show promise of distinguished research careers and who are from historically underrepresented groups.

Postdoctoral fellows will be engaged full-time in research and may teach up to two courses per academic year as part of their appointment. Fellows are required to be in-residence each semester during their appointment. The postdoctoral fellow will receive extensive university and program mentoring throughout their appointment.

Applications for study in any discipline represented on campus are welcome. STEM applications are strongly encouraged. Please specify your discipline of interest when applying.

Applicants must have completed their doctoral degree within the past five years and no later than July 1st of the current year. The primary criterion for selection is evidence of scholarship potentially competitive for tenure track appointments at a research university. A critical secondary criterion is the support of prospective departments.

All applicants must be U.S. citizens or permanent residents at the time of application; The University of North Carolina at Charlotte strongly encourages applications from African American, Native American and Hispanic scholars. Selection is contingent on the availability of an appropriate mentoring environment.

As part of a continuing commitment to building a culturally diverse intellectual community and advancing scholars from underrepresented groups in higher education, The University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill Carolina Postdoctoral Program for Faculty Diversity (CPPFD) offers postdoctoral research appointments for a period of two years. The purpose of CPPFD is to develop scholars from underrepresented groups for possible tenure track appointments at the University of North Carolina and other research universities. Postdoctoral scholars will be engaged full-time in research and may teach only one course per fiscal year. This program is funded by the State of North Carolina. Deadline is November 15, 2014.

Nat Humanities Center fellowships

The National Humanities Center offers 40 residential fellowships for advanced study in the humanities for the period September 2014 through May 2015. Located in the Research Triangle Park of North Carolina, near Chapel Hill, Durham, and Raleigh, the Center provides an environment for individual research and the exchange of ideas. Its building includes private studies for Fellows, conference rooms, a central commons for dining, lounges, reading areas, a reference library, and a Fellows’ workroom. The Center’s noted library service delivers books and research materials to Fellows, and support for information technology and editorial assistance are also provided. The Center helps locate housing for Fellows in the neighboring communities.

Applicants submit the Center’s form, supported by a curriculum vitae, a 1000-word project proposal, and three letters of recommendation. Where are you from?

The Where Are You From? Project (WAYF) is a series of video interviews with immigrants, citizens, new and long-term residents, and refugees in North Carolina, USA. The WAYF Project puts a face on immigration and uses technology to understand the human tendency and the right to move. We collect and share stories about mobility using a free and public platform that exposes users to the human aspect of migration, while teaching about multiple places, countries, and cultures.

The premise that everyone has a history of movement and the personal stories of the WAYF Project are particularly salient as the United States and other nations debate immigration reforms and look for alternative policies for all immigrants, from high skilled workers who enter legally to those who cross the border without documents.

Davidson College is seeking a person to teach in its College Writing Program, which focuses on the production of intellectual and academic discourses in the public and scholarly spheres. This individual (PhD required in the Sciences, Social Sciences, or Humanities) will annually teach three first-year writing courses designed around issues that are of interest to both disciplinary practitioners and wider readerships, and two writing-attentive courses that examine the traditions of inquiry and modes of scholarly exchange particular to the fellow’s home discipline. The position will be attractive to those interested in undergraduate pedagogy, curricular design, and intellectual life in a select liberal arts setting that values innovation, service, and leadership in its students. The position provides opportunities to examine how discourse informs civic argument, cultural critique, or scientific inquiry in the liberal-educational tradition. The length of appointment is two years.

Do you know a teenager (16-18) who is interested in meeting young people from Europe, Eastern Europe, and Eurasia? Do they have an interest in learning more about transatlantic relationships, democracy, and civic engagement?

The Department of Communication at Wake Forest University (WFU) is offering 10 Scholarships for American students to attend the 2012 Benjamin Franklin Transatlantic Fellows (BFTF) Summer Institute. These $3,500 scholarships include the following:

-Designation as Benjamin Franklin Transatlantic Fellow (covers tuition, activities, meals, and lodging in WFU dorm, and partial travel funds to and from Winston-Salem, NC).
-Participation in all Institute events, including classes on: Citizenship, Comparative Constitutionalism, Documentary Film Production, New Media, Public Advocacy, taught by WFU faculty.
-Six-day educational trip to Washington, D.C. and Philadelphia, PA, including a visit to the State Department and several sites including the Newseum in D.C. and the Constitution Center in Philadelphia.
-Civic engagement activities, local community service projects, and workshops on public advocacy.

The U.S. Fellows will join about 50 Fellows from Europe and Eurasia at Wake Forest University, June 29-July 26, 2012. The international Fellows are from over 40 countries ranging from Armenia to Iceland, Denmark to Kosovo, Malta to Lithuania. Applicants must be U.S. Citizens and 16-18 years old.
