UCD International College Beijing Job: Media (China)

The CU Denver Department of Communication invites applications for a full-time, non-tenure-track teaching position at the International College Beijing (ICB). The job will commence in September, 2018. Depending on the performance of the individual hired, multi-year renewals are possible. Depending on departmental needs, this position may also have the opportunity to teach a semester at the Denver campus, thus rotating semesters between teaching in Beijing and teaching in Denver. We seek to hire a colleague who can teach a wide range of Communication courses touching upon New Media, Strategic Communication, Workplace Communication, New Media Production and Management, Media Writing Skills, Advanced Strategic Communication, Internships, Transitioning from College to Career, and others. Above all else, we seek a dynamic and charismatic teacher committed to best practices in student-centered pedagogy and advancing the internationalization of communication via hands-on, skills-based experiential and problem-based learning.

 

Harron Chair @ Villanova U 2018

Job adsThe Department of Communication at Villanova University invites applications for the annual Harron Family Endowed Chair in Communication. The Department seeks a senior colleague whose scholarship, regardless of specialization or methodological orientation, has made a significant contribution to the discipline of Communication. This visiting, one-semester appointment is for the Fall of 2018. University-sponsored housing will be provided for the duration of the appointment. The responsibilities of the position include teaching one undergraduate and one graduate course related to his/her area of expertise, delivering a lecture to the Villanova community during the semester in residence, and mentoring faculty and students in the Communication Department. In addition to the salary generated by the Endowment and University-sponsored housing, The Harron Family Endowed Chair in Communication is eligible to receive graduate assistant support and to apply for a grant of up to $10,000 from the Waterhouse Family Institute for the Study of Communication and Society. This visiting position may be used to supplement sabbatical leave, but the Department encourages all interested, qualified candidates to apply.

Weber State U Job: Global/Intercultural Communication (Utah)

Job adsThe Department of Communication at Weber State University in Ogden, Utah, invites applications for a tenure-track Assistant Professor of Global/Intercultural Communication and General Education who will begin Fall Semester 2018.

We seek a strong teacher and scholar with a critical and practical understanding of global/intercultural communication and the ability to teach our general education courses of Mass Media and Society, Public Speaking and/or Interpersonal and Small Group Communication. The successful candidate should expect to teach theoretical and applied courses at all levels of the undergraduate and master’s curricula in areas such as intercultural communication, communication theory, gender and communication, and interpersonal and conflict management. Our department is growing and updating curriculum so there may be the potential for expanding our offerings of intercultural/global communication courses and developing a Study Abroad program. International experience is a plus for consideration.

The Department of Modern Languages, Linguistics, and Intercultural Communication at the University of Maryland, Baltimore County (UMBC) is filling a tenure-track position at the rank of Assistant or Associate Professor in intercultural communication. Candidates will be expected to have a comprehensive research agenda in intercultural communication. They should have in hand a PhD in intercultural communication or a closely related field, experience in intercultural training, and native or near-native proficiency in at least one of the following languages: Arabic, Chinese, French, German, Japanese, Korean, Russian or Spanish. The department has been a pioneer in incorporating intercultural communication into its language pedagogy, enriching both the fields of language pedagogy and intercultural communication. Teaching responsibilities will include courses in intercultural training, other areas of critical intercultural communication, and courses in the selected candidate’s language area at the undergraduate and graduate levels. The candidate will also participate in the supervision of theses and scholarly papers in the department’s interdisciplinary MA program in Intercultural Communication. Candidates should have a PhD (ABD may apply) in Communication Studies or relevant field and some evidence of scholarly productivity.

Candidates should be committed to undergraduate teaching and have an understanding of and appreciation for the liberal arts environment. Responsibilities for this position include teaching introduction to communication theory and a presentation course in addition to developing and teaching upper level courses in conflict resolution, negotiation and/or peace studies. Applicants should be able to teach in these areas of communication as they apply to at least two of the following: interpersonal, intergroup, intercultural, organizational, community, national, and/or international contexts. Specific foci may include, but are not limited to, negotiation, mediation, peace communication, conflict/dispute resolution, and/or multicultural or international dialogue. The successful candidate will be expected to participate in curriculum development and be able to teach the College’s first-year or senior-year interdisciplinary seminar.
