The 14th National Communication Ethics and 2016 International Association for Dialogue Analysis (IADA) conferences will be held June 1-4, 2016 at the Duquesne University Power Center in Pittsburgh, PA, sponsored by the Department of Communication & Rhetorical Studies, the Communication Ethics Institute, and the International Association for Dialogue Analysis.

We welcome papers and panel proposals addressed to each of the conference’s four content areas: (1) Dialogic Ethics; (2) Organizational Language and Dialogue; (3) Rhetoric and Dialogue; and (4) Semioethics.

The conference features invited speakers for each area:
Dialogic Ethics: Lisbeth Lipari, Denison University, the recipient of the James A. Jaska Scholar in Residence Award in Communication Ethics
Organizational Language and Dialogue: François Cooren, Université du Montréal
Rhetoric and Dialogue: Scott Stroud, University of Texas at Austin
Semioethics: Guest panel to be determined

Papers: We invite abstracts of 200–500 words or completed papers of a maximum of 30 pages, including references. Any citation style is permitted (e.g., MLA, APA, Chicago).

Panel Proposals: Panel proposals may include up to five participants. Please include a title page with a 500-word (maximum) rationale and 200-word abstract for each presentation.

Registration costs include three evening receptions with hors d’oeuvres, two lunches, a full breakfast buffet on Saturday, and a one-year IADA membership (including a subscription to Language and Dialogue and 30% off Dialogue Studies series by John Benjamins).

Sustain innovative scholarly research, publication, and professional service. Apply new scholarship and pedagogies to teaching. Serve on Department, Division, College, and University-wide committees. Provide support for one or more departmental programs, and contribute to reciprocal community partnerships.

Earned doctorate in philosophy, communication studies, rhetoric, religious studies, or allied discipline. Ability to provide leadership in practical and professional ethics. Ability to teach effectively in a wide range of courses including, but not limited to communication ethics, applied ethics, and deliberation. Ability to assist with innovative interdisciplinary program development. Ability to teach and mentor students from nontraditional, working class, and diverse ethnic and racial backgrounds. Experience working effectively in an ethnically and culturally diverse campus community.

Ability or potential in one or more of the following areas:
– Interdisciplinary teaching in leadership studies, religious studies, theology, or spirituality studies
– Application of new media technologies in teaching.
– Innovative teaching and assessment models
– Furthering relationships with the diverse communities of the Monterey Bay and tri-county region

The Division of Humanities and Communication (HCOM) at CSUMB seeks an Assistant Professor in Communication and Transformative Conflict Resolution to begin Fall 2013.  The successful candidate will be prepared to facilitate student abilities to integrate applied philosophy and communication studies in the pursuit of a meaningful and successful life; to develop skills associated with non-violent conflict resolution and community building; and to engage in ethical and effective argumentation, reasoning,  and decision making. Students earn a degree in Human Communication, framed within an interdisciplinary HCOM curriculum of multicultural literature; ethnic studies; history; race, class and gender studies; relational ethics; oral history and new media studies and cross-cultural communication. Duties will include the following responsibilities:

Minimum Qualifications:  Earned doctorate in Communication Studies, Religious or Spirituality Studies, or allied discipline.  Ability to teach courses in conflict resolution, communication ethics, dialogue and deliberation, and oral and written communication. Ability to teach and mentor students from nontraditional, working class, and diverse ethnic and racial backgrounds.

Desired Qualifications:  Ability to apply new media technologies in teaching; Preparation for interdisciplinary teaching in Peace Studies, Gender Studies and Pre-Law; Knowledge of second language and experience in bilingual/bicultural, multilingual-multicultural contexts; Ability to teach and coordinate Service Learning (SL) Courses;  Skill in cross-cultural, experiential and assets-based pedagogy and teaching; Ability to team-teach and develop cross-disciplinary conversations; Knowledge of outcomes-based or other innovative assessment models; Collaborative curricular decision making and advising of students.
