The Hong Kong Polytechnic University (PolyU) is a government-funded tertiary institution in Hong Kong.  It offers programmes at various levels including Doctorate, Master’s, and Bachelor’s degrees.

The appointees will be required to (a) engage in teaching and related learning activities at both undergraduate and postgraduate levels; (b) assume an important role in curriculum design and development; (c) undertake academic research in their areas of expertise, including but not limited to making applications for external research grants; (d) provide administrative support for academic development and departmental objectives, and play an active role in programme management; and (e) render professional service to the discipline and/or the community at large.

In addition to comparable duties as listed above, applicants for this position will also be expected to: (f) provide academic leadership in his/her areas of expertise; and (g) perform any other duties as assigned by the Head of Department or his/her delegates.

Applicants should have (a) a PhD degree in a relevant discipline, preferably with one of the following specialisms: i) Clinical Linguistics, Special Education Needs, Language Pathology, Speech Therapy, Neuroscience or Computational Linguistics with usage of language technology in digital humanities and big data analytics. Additional expertise in other areas of the humanities such as media studies or language and literature will be a significant advantage; ii) Bilingual Corporate Communication, Intercultural Communication, Bilingualism/Multilingualism or related fields; iii) Cantonese Linguistics (e.g. Syntax, Semantics, Sociolinguistics or Phonology); or iv) Chinese Language Education, and/or Teaching Chinese as a Second/Foreign Language; (b) substantial years of relevant post-qualification experience and an excellent record of relevant academic and/or professional achievements; (c) a high level of fluency in English; and (d) a strong commitment to excellence in teaching, scholarly activities and professional service.  For the post in Applied Language Sciences / Bilingualism and Communication, preference will be given to those who are fluent in Cantonese or Putonghua and literate in written Chinese.  For the post in Chinese Language Education, preference will be given to those who are familiar with primary and secondary education in Hong Kong, and/or the International Baccalaureate curriculum.
