The ideal candidate should be able to teach courses in communication research methods and communication theory. The ability to teach courses in PR/advertising is also desirable but is not required. The ideal candidate would also aid in curriculum development and program assessment and carry out other tasks assigned by the Chair. Ph.D. in mass communication is required.

The Department of Communication, Culture and Media Studies, with a doctoral-level program, seeks to fill a tenure-track position at the Associate or Full Professor level in U.S. multicultural media and communication studies. We are seeking a historical and critical scholar who can teach a range of doctoral-level courses in and serve on dissertation committees.  Applicants should have substantive knowledge in at least two of the following:  media industries, popular culture, communication policy, audience research, political economy of communication, media globalization, communication technologies, or media and social movements, as these relate to the African American experience.  Incorporation of multicultural concerns, e.g., gender, race, ethnicity, socio-economic class, sexuality and/or nationality, in the applicant’s research agenda is essential.  Responsibilities would include teaching 4-6 courses per year, mentoring students in their research, serving on dissertation committees, participating in other administrative committees, carrying on a full program of research, and exercising leadership within the broader profession.

Qualifications
Applicants should possess an earned doctorate in a communications field or a related discipline.  The ideal candidate will have at least six years of full-time teaching experience and a publications track record, as well as demonstrated promise for research and publication.  Applicants should also possess an understanding of the broader field of communications as well as specific knowledge in mass communications, as listed above.

The Department, School and University
The Department of Communication, Culture and Media Studies (CCMS) offers doctoral-level studies leading to the Ph.D.  The person hired will help to build the CCMS program through course re/development, by carrying on an active program of scholarship and publication, and through mentorship of students. The department has a diverse community of approximately 50 doctoral students from the United States and other nations, and a core faculty of five, with additional affiliate faculty from other departments in the recently restructured School of Communications.  The School of Communications is an interdisciplinary unit composed of two undergraduate departments (Strategic, Legal and Management Communications; and Media, Journalism and Film) and two graduate departments (Communication, Culture and Media Studies; and Communication Sciences and Disorders). The Susan Currier Visiting Professorship for Teaching Excellence in the College of Liberal Arts at California Polytechnic State University in San Luis Obispo, California is a residential teaching professorship that recognizes superior teaching in the liberal arts, emphasizing (where possible) the intersection between gender/women’s issues and global justice/humanitarian concerns. The goal of the Susan Currier Visiting Professorship is to bring a visiting Associate or Full Professor with a distinguished record of teaching excellence to Cal Poly for the purpose of sharing expertise and passion for teaching, social justice, and the liberal arts. It can accommodate visiting scholars on semester or quarter schedules.

The Susan Currier Visiting Professorship is a full-time, one-quarter, non-renewable appointment to cover the Fall 2015 (September 14, 2015 to December 12, 2015) OR Winter 2016 (January 4, 2016 to March 21, 2016) OR Spring 2016 (March 28, 2016 to June 11, 2016) quarter. QUALIFICATIONS REQUIRED:

Applicants must have relevant academic experience commensurate with the requirements to teach senior US and international military and civilian leaders. The position also requires a demonstrated ability to design, develop and evaluate graduate-level course materials and instructional methodologies. The position requires a broad knowledge of military and academic cultures, knowledge of academic research methods and demonstrated skill in writing and editing for publication. The ability to lead diverse teams and communicate effectively to a wide range of audiences is also a requirement. The position requires a broad knowledge of joint/service military thought and theory to include the elements of national power, international relations, and military capabilities and limitations.

A Ph.D. is highly desired; a master’s degree is required and must be in an academic discipline relevant to anthropology, communication, or sociology.

The professor is specifically expected to have expertise in the areas related to the future of journalism, such as media and journalism in a networked and multicultural society, effects of social media on journalism and its relationship with the audience, journalistic innovations, as well as journalism and globalization.

The duties and qualification requirements for the position of the professor are stipulated by the University of Jyväskylä Regulations. The Department of Communication & Journalism at the University of New Mexico invites applications for a full time, 9-month appointment at the rank of Lecturer III to begin August 1, 2015. The department seeks to hire a lecturer with knowledge and experience teaching interpersonal communication, conflict management, and mediation. The successful candidate will coordinate the teaching assistants and part-time instructors who teach sections of CJ 221 (Interpersonal Communication) and CJ 320 (Mediation). In addition, this lecturer will teach other courses at the undergraduate level that meet teaching needs in the department’s concentrations (interpersonal, organizational, intercultural, environmental, media studies, and public communication). Graduate teaching is a possibility, depending on the lecturer’s areas of specialty and department need.

This is a renewable teaching appointment based on the lecturer’s performance. The position involves 70% teaching and 30% service, and the teaching load involves 7 courses each year.

Minimum Qualifications: Ph.D. in Communication or related field completed by August 1, 2015, and three years post-secondary teaching experience.

Preferred Qualifications: (a) A strong record of effective teaching across the communication curriculum; (b) Experience teaching interpersonal communication, communication and conflict, and mediation; (c) Experience directing/coordinating teaching assistants and/or part-time instructors; (d) Experience/interest in developing and teaching courses in on-line or condensed formats; (e) A demonstrated commitment to diversity, equity, inclusion, student success, and working with broadly diverse communities, as well as a desire to mentor students from diverse backgrounds; and (f) Evidence of participation in professional and/or communication associations.
