Native American Residency Fellowships (Vermont)

Native American Residency Fellowships at the Vermont Studio Center

This Fellowship program was established in 2011 to support the development of visual artists and the potential for inter-cultural dialog. Each year, the Foundation awards two residency fellowships to Native American visual artists at the Vermont Studio Center. Each Fellow receives a one-month residency, which includes room and board, a private studio, and a $500 travel stipend.

Founded by artists in 1984, the Vermont Studio Center is the largest international artists’ and writers’ Residency Program in the United States, hosting 50 visual artists and writers each month from across the country and around the world. The Studio Center provides 4-12 week residencies on an historic 30 building campus along the Gihon River in Johnson, Vermont, a village in the heart of the northern Green Mountains.

Two Fellowships are awarded annually to Native American visual artists who demonstrate:
• Strong artistic ability
• An evolving practice this is at a pivotal moment in its development
• A practice that engages a dialogue between the artist’s indigenous world and the surrounding culture

Application Process and Deadlines
The annual application deadline is February 15. Artists must apply online. To find out more about this opportunity, please contact David Grozinsky at 802 635-2727 at the Vermont Studio Center or Lissette Garciaat Harpo Foundation.

Robert Bosch Cultural Managers in the Arab World

Robert Bosch Cultural Managers in the Arab World

Sponsor:Goethe-Institut

Amount:Historically, the monthly stipend has been 1.800 €. Starting in March 2016, two fellowships are available in Egypt. The fellowship will last one year with an option for extension.

Applicant Type:New Faculty/New Investigator; Ph.D./M.D./Other Professional

Citizenship or Residency: Germany

Activity location:Egypt

Deadline: 15 November 2015

Since October 2005 cultural managers from Germany have been sent to institutions in the Arab world. Locations so far have included Assiut in Egypt, Marrakesh in Morocco, Tripoli in Lebanon, Aden in Yemen, Sharjah in the United Arab Emirates, and Aleppo in Syria. Currently, one cultural manager is active in Jeddah, Saudi-Arabia, and three cultural managers are active in the Nile Delta, Northern and Southern Upper Egypt.

For 2016, the program will offer to fellowships as cultural managers in Egypt. The fellows will organize educational and cultural projects in order to support the dialog between Germany, Europe, and the Arab world.

Robert Bosch Cultural Managers are offered fellowships and are tasked, through cultural events and other opportunities to socialize, with expanding the information on offer and supporting the dialog between Germany, Europe, and the Arab world.

The fellowship awarded by the Robert Bosch Stiftung gives fellows the opportunity to obtain further practical qualifications in international cultural management and to distinguish themselves in the area of international cultural exchange.

The work of a cultural manager varies greatly depending on the specific needs of the site. Generally, the fellow is to convey an image of contemporary Germany in the host country through innovative projects and is also to inspire the local population for German culture. As the guest of a cultural institution in the Arab world, he or she promotes international relations by helping to organize networking structures for sustainable cooperation between the host country and Germany, but also in the region. The fellow proposes cultural and educational offerings that relate to Germany. This includes organizing expositions, musical events, workshops, lectures and theater projects, but also fundraising and acquiring funds from third parties as well as media and public relations work.

The program Robert Bosch Cultural Managers in the Arab World is a cooperative endeavor of the Robert Bosch Stiftung and the Goethe-Institut. As the regional institute for the Middle East and North Africa, the Goethe-Institut in Cairo supports and coordinates the cultural managers.

Hong Kong Postgraduate Fellowships

Applications are invited for the Hong Kong Postgraduate Fellowship Scheme (HKPFS) studentships to commence study in September 2016. HKPFS is a special scheme run by the HK University Grants Council designed to attract the best students for doctoral study in Hong Kong. The scheme is extremely generous in terms of remuneration and benefits and it is open to all applicants irrespective of nationality. For a copy of HKBU’s information about the scheme, please contact Colin Sparks.

Over the last few years, the School of Communication at Hong Kong Baptist University has been increasingly successful in helping students obtain these very competitive awards. We should like to ask you to encourage any of your students who are interested in pursuing doctoral studies to apply to us.  The School is a large one with a wide range of research interests.  We are interested in potential students who wish to research in the following areas:
*Film Studies (documentary studies, television studies and Asian cinemas are particularly strong specialisms)
*Journalism (comparative media systems, media education and literacy, and Chinese media are particularly strong specialisms)
*Communication Studies (advertising and public relations, organisational and health communication are particularly strong specialisms)

Students with other interests within these general areas are strongly encouraged to contact the School to discuss whether we possess the expertise to supervise them should they decide to apply.

Our doctoral programme is very international in orientation and composition.  Roughly 30 per cent of our doctoral students are from outside China. We have students from Europe, the US, Africa, South Asia and East Asia and we are keen to maintain such a cosmopolitan student body.  The general conditions for admission to the university’s Graduate School are at: http://gs.hkbu.edu.hk/.

Hong Kong is an excellent place to study for a doctoral degree and a very exciting place to live. HKBU is very well supported by the UGC and research is one of our main priorities. Universities enjoy a  high level of academic freedom. (Incidentally, despite its name, Hong Kong Baptist University is a secular public university that welcomes students of all religions and none.)  Hong Kong bills itself as “Asia’s World City” and has a diverse population.  Faculty and students are active participants in the city’s vigorous civic life.

There is a two-step application process.  Potential students must first register their interest with the UGC at the URL above and obtain a registration number. They then apply to HKBU through the Graduate School using that registration number as a reference.  Applications are exclusively electronic. Applicants must submit their initial applications through the Hong Kong PhD Fellowship Scheme Electronic System before the deadline on 1 December 2015 at 12:00 noon Hong Kong Time.

Should any of your students be interested in learning more about these opportunities, they can feel free to contact the Director of the Doctoral Programme, Colin Sparks.
